MissionTo bring the joy, beauty, artistry and discipline of classical and contemporary dance to New Jersey and beyond through artistic and educational programs, presented by a financially responsible organization.

American Repertory Ballet is comprised of three diverse arms of the organization, creating opportunities for dancers and supporters of all levels to learn and appreciate the discipline.

The Company The preeminent professional classical and contemporary ballet company in the state under the artistic leadership of former Joffrey Ballet principal dancer, Douglas Martin, which recruits the highest caliber of dancers throughout the United States and beyond.

Princeton Ballet School One of the largest and most respected non-profit dance schools in the nation, with over 1,000 students in attendance each year. Students can begin taking classes at 3 years old and are welcome

to stay PBS students into their adult years through our Open Enrollment classes.

Access & Enrichment Initiatives that include the acclaimed DANCE POWER program, the longest continuously running community and arts partnership in New Jersey, On Pointe Series, a free monthly community Enrichment series, school-time matinees, sensory-friendly performances designed specifically to accommodate children and adults with special needs, and much more.

ARB has been designated a “Major Arts Institution” by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for the past two decades, and has repeatedly been awarded a Citation of Excellence. ARB was voted the Jersey Arts People’s Choice for “Favorite Dance Company” in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Mission & History

Ms. Estey established the Princeton Regional Ballet Company.

The company became the professional Princeton Ballet Company.

DANCE POWER program founded

The company was renamed American Repertory Ballet, a name more clearly reflecting status as a nationally recognized ballet company.

Septime Webre named Artistic Director. During his tenure, he created many new works including Swan Lake, Where the Wild Things Are and Romeo & Juliet, which the company toured to Portugal.

Graham Lustig becomes Artistic Director, who created original works for the company including: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Silkscreens and Graham Lustig’s The Nutcracker.

Douglas Martin named Artistic Director. Mr. Martin brings a deep and rich history with American Repertory Ballet and Princeton Ballet School to the role.

ARB’s reach is widespread, with performances and educational programming throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York, offering partners the unique opportunity to support

not only the local community, but also have an impact on the tristate area.

Key Facts

In 2017 ARB presented 36 performances to audiences across New Jersey and beyond, with over 30,000 attending our annual productions of the Nutcracker alone. Audience members range in age from one to one hundred, all coming together to share in their love of the arts.

The Princeton Ballet School enrolls over 1,000 students each year, many of whom come from surrounding states in order to study under our world-class instructors. In order to ensure access to all, the PBS Scholarship Fund was created and awarded over $200,000 in funding to students in 2017.

ARB’s Access & Enrichment Programs reached over 5,000 children and families through community events across New Jersey in 2017

In its 32nd year, DANCE POWER has brought dance directly to more than 3,000 students in New Brunswick and Piscataway, helping to fill the void of arts education and find a solution for the increasing issue of child obesity in the region. Through the DANCE POWER program, ARB awarded more than $110,000 to DANCE POWER Scholars, to support the continuation of a child’s instruction through their senior year of high school.

Series Sponsor – Put your name alongside classic and/or new commissioned works through a sponsorship of a multi-show series, expanding your reach across New Jersey and beyond. Single Show Sponsor – Strategically place your business in front of the community you are seeking to work with by being the title sponsor of a selected show.

PRINCETON BALLET SCHOOL PBS Scholarship Sponsor – Create a named scholarship (single or multi-year) to support the dance education of a child at the Princeton Ballet School.

ACCESS & ENRICHMENT ACCESS: Ballet Sponsor – Be a part of bringing the ballet to all by sponsoring tickets for one or more of ARB’s season performances. Tickets are distributed to individuals who would otherwise be unable to experience the live performing arts due to financial and/or other barriers. Title Sponsor of “On Pointe” Series – Underwrite the monthly “On Pointe” Lecture Series that is free to all and attended by hundreds of local dance enthusiasts. Lectures focus on health, artistry, business, and other aspects of the dance world. School Time Matinee Sponsor – Be the reason children experience the live performing arts by sponsoring a School Time Matinee in which students have the opportunity to attend a ballet at a local theater. All School Time Matinees have teaching guides that are provided to teachers in order to ensure a connection with students’ classroom lessons. In-School Residency Sponsor – Bring the arts directly to students by supporting an In-School Residency program. Programs are available for all age groups as well as different dance forms.DANCE POWER Scholar Sponsor – Support the longest continuously running arts/community partnership in New Jersey by funding a scholarship to ensure that New Brunswick and Piscataway DANCE POWER students have the opportunity to continue their training throughout high school at the Princeton Ballet School. Sensory Friendly Performance Sponsor – Demonstrate your company’s support of an inclusive community by sponsoring a Sensory Friendly Performance. Such performances are produced in a way that ensures comfort of those who are sensory sensitive, but still able to be enjoyed by all.
