MISERIES OF CRAFTSMEN & SPREAD OF FAMINE
The colonial rulers completely destroyed Indianhandicrafts industry.
They made a policy to buy these products at a lowcost and make a huge profit from the resale of them.
Company curtailed rights of the craftsmen andweavers on the basis of certain conditions andcompelled them to produce goods as per the demandof the company at low price
They were also barred from selling their
products to other at a higher price.
Thus stringent conditions were imposed
on the artisans.
They were also unable to compete with
the industrial goods coming from
Britain.
The loss of power by the local rulers
also adversely affected the artisans.
This resulted in a reduction of demand
of the products of the craftsmen and
weavers, as the local rulers were their
patrons and main consumers of these
products
