Mise-en-Scene

How we are going to use Mise-en-

Scene in our thriller film.

Page 2: Mise en-scene

Costume

• Girl: Pale white top, light skirt to show her innocence.

• Therapist: Black trousers, white shirt, smart clothes BUT wearing the same black leather jacket as the attacker to present a red herring

• Attacker: Dark dull clothes, black leather jacket. Dark clothes to represent how they are dangerous and ‘evil’. They will also have a mask to conceal their identity.

Setting

Page 4: Mise en-scene

Location

• Old park: (Heath Road Thurston) show childhood innocence but also vulnerability as the park is quite derelict, open spaced and isolated.

• Railway bridge: (Thurston) desolate and dark very quiet, small to show vulnerability as less people will see the attack.

• Office: (Most likely student support) it’s set out like a therapist office and looks official.

Lighting

• In the therapist’s office the lighting will be very low key (chiaroscuro) and dull, this will be to show the eerieness of the room and keeping a common thriller convention

• In the attack/flashback the lighting will be high contrast showing a bright white on the scene this is to highlight the idea of a flash back or a dream to the audience. This is also a major convention of thriller films.
