Colour within Misfits

Generally the overall colour throughout the entire show is grey, this connotes that the Misfits live are generally very gloomy like a prison.

In contrast they are actually all dressed in orange. This leads to a huge difference with the community centre, implying they are out of place with the centre or it clearly shows that they are the main characters and the centre of attention.

Light within Misfits

The lighting is generally grey and helps make the show seem very sad and the characters very troubled

The entire show seems to be dominated by grey light, making it seem very gloomy.

They light also helps to warn the audience that danger is relatively close.

This it due to the fact that when the Misfits are fine after just surviving another adventure the entire set lights up with the sun shining making the misfits seem happier and less gloomy.

Location within Misfits

There are two main locations within the show. They are the community centre and the council estate.

The centre is mostly grey giving it resemblance to a prison but also maybe denoting the fact that the area is very poor with the walls laying very bare.

The estate is clearly not an appealing place and this is shown by the fact that there is graffiti (which the misfits have to clean) everywhere as well as the fact that the walls and building are grey (again!)

Costume

They main costume of the characters is the notorious orange jumpsuit. This clearly separates the misfits from other people clearly showing that they are the main characters.

They other clothes that the misfits wear outside the centre clearly connotes the different backgrounds the misfits come from:

Curtis-ex-runner-spends most of his time in tracksuits and tank tops

Alisha-Party girl-wears tight fitting outfits with lots of make-up

Simon-loner-wears mostly dark colours such as grey, navy blue and black.

Kelly-”CHAV”- wears baggy clothes, massive hoop earrings and wears lots of jewellery

Nathan-homeless and very annoying-his dress code seems to be very neutral not indicating much besides the fact he is clearly Irish from his accent.

Make-up within Misfits

The majority of make-up within the show seems to come from fake blood. With the Misfits having to or accidentally kill people the need for blood is great.

The only other real purpose of make-up is actual make-up that is largely present on the character Alisha which helps make up her costume.

Special Effects within Misfits

Throughout the entire show the use of special effects is very limited. The only noticeable uses are:

The CGI for the storm cloud that gave powers

The effect when Simon becomes invisible

Curtis’s eye when he travels back in time

Props within Misfits

Within Misfits there are a variety of props. Some of these are general items such as cars and backpacks.

But there are some items that may connote more than one thing. e.g:

Cigerettes-these may connote the fact that the Misfits are all “disruptive teens”

Half broken or very old phones-these may be used to connote how poor the Misfits are.
