Clip 3-HospitalShot 1&2

The shot of the birthday cake is very welcoming, the use of colours involve bright yellow which invites us in but then we are introduced to the green like theme of Sarah which is dark, intimidating and grimy. We don’t feel welcome as the lighting is dark there are shadows casted on Sarah and on her head.

Shot 3

The Heart Monitor gives of a feeling that Sarah is dead as the heart monitor shows a straight line meaning there is no heart beet.

Shot 4

Again we see that this shot is still green themed and makes us again feel uninvited and makes everything look grimy and dark. This shows Sarah doesn’t feel quite normal and her movement confirms this. Still we understand that she is confused as she has only just got out of bed. Her outfit shows us she is a patient and something bad as happened to her. Her outfit blends in with the unwelcoming green back ground.

Shot 5

Here the green background has changed to black this is were we know something is getting very strange and dark. The way she is staring senselessly in the darkness shows fear and the blackened background tells us something unpleasant will soon follow.

SoundNon- Diegetic Sound:• Sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action this

includes, narrator's commentary, sound effects which is added for the dramatic effect, mood music, Non-diegetic sound is represented as coming from the a source outside story space.

• The distinction between diegetic or non-diegetic sound depends on our understanding of the conventions of film viewing and listening. We know of that certain sounds are represented as coming from the story world, while others are represented as coming from outside the space of the story events. A play with diegetic and non-diegetic conventions can be used to create ambiguity (horror), or to surprise the audience (comedy). The use of non diegetic sound in the descent makes up experience more jump scares in the descent and makes it more like a frillier film.

Diegetic Sound:• Diegetic sound is the sound of the voices of characters, sounds made by objects in the story, music

represented as coming from instruments in the story space (source music). • Diegetic sound is any sound presented as originated from source within the film's world • Diegetic sound can be either on screen or off screen depending on whatever its source is within the

frame or outside the frame. • The use of diegetic sound in the descent enhances the level of fear and tension that is created within the

audiences mind and and could potentially make the scare in another scene even more frightening.Z~
