Newsletter to book your three way parent-
student-teacher interviews
Our supportive and friendly P and C meet each month in the staffroom. Our P and C support the school by
fundraising, running special food days, Friday canteen and supporting the staff at school events. We value
our P and C and the wonderful assistance they provide each year. This month’s meeting is the annual
general meeting where positions are elected for the year.

Parents and carers are welcome to attend the next meeting and a warm invitation is extended to our new
parents and carers in kindergarten and other grades across the school. Current financial members of the
P and C are able to vote at the meeting.
Our school will be using an easy online system for
parents and carers to book in a session to meet
with their child’s teacher at the end of the term.
Information will come home in the next newsletter
about how to book an opportunity for the three
way interviews. We had good success with the
system in 2019 and anticipate this will be an easy
and effective way to book a session once again.
We look forward to seeing each student and their
parent/carer at our end of term learning
discussions (during week 10 and 11).

LIBRARY HELP — BOOK COVERING!
Mrs Atkins and Mrs Booth would be
very grateful for any helpers that are
able to take books home to cover.
Please either see Mrs Atkins or the
office. We would love your help!
Our playground and the recent weather
events– safety is a priority
Thank you to the parents and grandparents who
assisted Mr Raz recently to clean up the debris
left after the recent storms and high winds. It was
wonderful to have the extra help as we only have
Mr Raz at school for two days each week. Thanks
also to the terrific members of St Luke’s Church
who collected leaf litter and debris during the
Christmas holiday break. It was terrific to have so
much help to ready the school yard for students
to return.
As you are aware, we had numerous trees dam-
aged and some telecommunications damage as
a result of the recent storms. The school has had
an arborist inspection after each significant
weather event and tree rectification work under-
taken as required. You’ll notice that we exercise
the practice of cordoning off the affected areas
until all rectification work is completed and the
arborist has had a final safety inspection. On
windy days, students eat and play either under
the COLA or on the grass oval and are required
to stay clear of the tree areas in the playground.
Parents and carers can also assist by notifying the
office if they become aware of any potential
hazards in our playground, We appreciate your
vigilance in helping to keep our playground safe.
Keeping our students safe and thriving is
important to us at Miranda North. You can assist
in keeping our students safe by noting the
following:
Anaphylaxis and food at school- awareness
keeps our students safe
This year in our school there are students who are
severely allergic to nuts and eggs. This could re-
sult in the student experiencing anaphylaxis
which is a sudden, severe allergic reaction that
requires immediate medical treatment and is po-
tentially fatal. We are seeking the support and
cooperation of all families to minimise the risk of
this student coming into contact with specific
foods. Therefore, we request you follow these
simple steps: ✔ Please don’t give your children
nuts or eggs to bring to school ✔ Be aware of
foods that may contain egg, such as mayonnaise
or nuts, such as peanut butter. Thank you for
recognising the need for ongoing vigilance to
minimise the potential life threatening risk to some
of our students.
Safety first...
Shutting the gate- keeps our students safe
We appreciate parents and carers being aware
of our school gates and closing them upon enter-
ing and leaving the school. As our littlest people in
kinder are settling into school, it is important that
the gate is closed behind you if you enter or
leave the school during class time or once the
gates have been closed. Thank you for leaving
the school promptly after assembly so that our
student leaders can close the gates.
Parking around the school- be aware of our
neighbours’ driveways
We love to be good neighbours to the residents
that live close to the school. Please ensure that
when picking up or dropping off students that
driveways are kept clear so that our neighbours
have safe access during the mornings and after-
noons. Thank you for your awareness and action.
Help needed to spread some mulch at
the school
We’ve had lots of tree limb tidying recently and
have some piles of mulch that Mr Raz would love
some assistance with spreading. If you are
available on a Tuesday or Friday morning and
would like to help out, it would be appreciated.
If you’d like to bring a face mask, metal rake or
shovel, that would be great, otherwise we have
equipment at school that can be used. Look out
for Mr Raz…he’d love your help
A super swimming carnival!
This Friday is the Clean Up Australia “for Schools”
day to acknowledge our environment and clean
up our environment, to make it free from litter.
Students may wish to bring a pair of disposable
gloves or gardening gloves, to use as they tidy an
area of the playground and learn about the
importance of keeping our environment clear of
plastics.
Our fabulous P and C canteen have had a
couple of super weeks recently. The afternoons
have been warm and balmy, students keen to
purchase and parents and carers helping out in
the canteen or staying around for a catch up.
Great work canteen team! You make our Friday
afternoons special!
Clean up Australia “for Schools”
Our Friday afternoon canteen starts up for
2020….and it’s been a great hit!
Teachers are learners too!
Teachers love learning to improve their teaching!
Super proud of our teachers who are learning
more about teaching the skills our students need
to be deep, effective learners. Here they are
recently with teachers from our community
practice, learning more about helping students
develop the learning dispositions on the wheel.
Love your work, teachers!
Stage 2 exploring “push pull” in science
Confident, creative, learners....Students in stage 2,
along with Mrs Jackson, have been learning about
how objects move. Here they are collaborating in
order to design different ways to make marbles
move, by identifying pushing and pulling. The pos-
sibilities that emerged were very inventive and cre-
ative! Love your creativity, stage 2!
KD learning how to collaborate…and doing a
marvellous job!
It's all about team work and collaboration...KD are
learning to turn take, explore new materials and
build new ideas together as they engage in their
developmental play activities. They are already
super clever at sharing and working together
(collaborating) in order to achieve a shared goal.
Love your team work skills, KD!
Miss O'Donnell is very proud of you!
Parents as Partners in learning
It was great to welcome our kinder parents at the
Parents as Partners in Learning workshop last
week...they took part in a reflection donut (just like
our students do!), heard about strategies for
active listening and coping skills; and learnt tips
and strategies for reading with their child. A
special highlight was a visit to each kinder room to
see the most amazing learners in their classrooms.
Stage 3—LEAD by courage
Stage 3 undertook a full day incursion earlier this week to develop their leadership skills. Working together
they developed their understanding of what Leadership is, how to harness their own leadership strengths
and how to use them effectively. Well done Stage 3!
