So itrsquos back where it started from One eyewitness described the manifestations going on at the impartation of Bentleyrsquos anointing

These are the effects that I have witnessed on people who have attended this movement and either have had hands laid on them or claim to have been imparted with the spirit -They come back with this kind of childlike drunken stupor -Descriptions of a burning sensation either in their veins heads or stomachs -Descriptions of being washed back and forth like the waves in the ocean-Dancing about like drunk-Inappropriate yelling and screaming like theyre at a football game-Young men whistling over and over and holding their heads and claiming that they feel the Holy Spirit about to split them in two -One young mans back two teeth turned completely to some metallic finish-People with their eyes rolled in the back of their heads and weaving around like theyre lost-Women just gyrating and pulsating like theyre being ravaged from behind from some unseen force Drunken uncontrollable laughter in the middle of a solemn prayer timehellip-People being slain in the spirit just falling down and being unable to move (like somethings holding them down) xvi

Then the blogger who posted this asked a pointed question about the women reported to be ravaged from behind-- Am I misreading or does this mean that the women are literally acting like they are being sexed up by unseen supernatural forces

Another phenomenon I notice whenever watching any of these outpourings is people bent over unable to straighten themselves up while convulsing into their bellies Whenever I see this Irsquom reminded of the spirit from which Jesus delivered a woman as reported in Luke 13 Jesus said that this woman whom Satan has bound needed to be loosed ndash even on the Sabbath So he released her from the spirit and immediately she was made straight These pitiful people who canrsquot straighten up their backs need to be loosed from whatever spirit Bentley is impartingxvii

A preacherrsquos testimony I took a group to Lakeland I was in the restroom washing my hands and the Lord spoke to me and said ldquoGet out of here The place is filled with wizards and witchesrdquo I have lost people and money from my church They will no longer attend my church and are going and giving Todd Bentley their money I know a pastor in Tampa that has lost so many tithers

A preacher gives the following testimony After almost an hour and a half of singing the MC comes back to the center of the stage and declares ldquoI feel the lsquosaucersquo tonightrdquo He then introduces Todd Bentley who comes out wearing a t-shirt that reads ldquoJesus Gave Me My Tattoosrdquo He tells everyone that he ldquofelt like the Holy Spirit was massaging his bodyrdquo tonight He then talks about the transferable anointing that comes in like a mist He claims that God told him he could ldquofeel the anointing just like Moses didrdquo in the book of Exodus Of course God never told Moses that he could ldquofeelrdquo the anointing God did say He would ldquoshowrdquo Moses His glory but He never mentioned ldquofeelingrdquo the glory Yet Bentley continues to emphasize feelings This is a huge part of his entire teaching He talks of not only seeing a mist but says that in some of his previous meetings he has been able to smell incense concluding that this is the glory of God manifest He then invites people to come to the altar and screams ldquoFire Fire Fire Fire Firerdquo which is a trademark signature of his xxiii

Therersquos a real restlessness in the arena In fact Irsquove never seen more people coming and going moving from seat to seat to seat than I have at these meetings in Lakeland Therersquos a tremendous lack of peace amongst the people No one seems to be able to settle in and people are walking the aisles and moving constantly Suddenly Bentley says there is ldquogreat authorityrdquo in the building tonight and he says that people can decree whatever they want but to be careful what they ask for Itrsquos obvious that hersquos heavily influenced by ldquoWord of Faithrdquo teaching and believes that God has abdicated His throne and given us authority to do anything we want or better yet have anything we pronounce In fact he himself says ldquoI speak creation I speak new hearts new livers into existence tonightrdquo Speaking to the audience in general he tells people to take off their oxygen and he commands tumors to fall off bodies and for cripples to get out of wheelchairs He continues to declare all types of healings I watch as several people gather around one wheel-chair bound woman and pray for her They exhort her to rise but she cannot People now begin to come forward to share their testimonies of healing Everything is carried out just as it would be in a Benny Hinn or Earnest Angsley type service There are claims of everything from headaches cured to resurrections from the dead but everything is carefully shared on a first name only basis I imagine Todd and his crew could claim this is done so that the media or other curious people would not harass the individuals giving the testimonies But what this effectively does is keep anyone from verifying any of the claims One severely handicapped girl (physically and mentally) was brought forward in a wheelchair and was lifted out of the wheelchair by Todd and another man and dragged several feet before Todd let her go so she could be ldquoslain in the Spiritrdquo It was a travesty in my opinion Bentley then claims that this revival was prophesied in 1977 and again in 1989 by none other


than Paul Cain of the Kansas City prophets We will deal with him more later on but itrsquos important that the reader gets an understanding of who Todd Bentley looks up to He is very much in the same camp as the KC prophets among others I decided to leave at this point as it was approaching 10 PM and I had an hour drive back home

Why worry about Deuteronomy 18 which warns that we are not to fear any prophet who makes predictions in the name of the Lord which fail to come to pass Or why worry about Deuteronomy 131-3 which warns of the possibility that a prophet could actually perform signs and wonders yet still be false The only way to tell would be if the teaching of the prophet led


people to follow other gods Get it The choice presented by the True God is between Power or Teaching Another great prophet very much esteemed by Bentley and his mentors Bob Jones and Paul Cain is the late William Branham Branhams power was Great He could tell people what their name was what symptoms they had in their body and would then pray for healings which actually manifested It was Great The only problem was Branhams teaching- he had a few quirks such as His belief that the doctrine of the Trinity was of the devil his belief that the zodiac was as valid as the word of God and his unfortunate belief that he was the Angel of the church of Laodicea When He died in a head-on auto crash in 1965 his followers were so obsessed with his works of power they delayed burying him for several months hoping that he would be resurrected the following Easter He was that GREAT Bentley Cain Rick Joyner and the disgraced and discredited Bob Jones all admire the false prophet Branham to this day They saw him as great and wanted to be regarded as the next Great one The people who are so enamored by these false prophets want greatness also but in a different way They lust for a Great showy display of the power of God their hearts are not right Like the Samaritans in Acts 8 they are willing to be astonished by sorceries false signs gold dust stigmata etc because they have departed away from God and any sense of the truly awesome Proverbs 9 says By the knowledge of the Holy comes understanding Unfortunately these people have no understanding- listening to Bentley et al one hears story after story of the varied subjective experiences these Mystics are having-in the Holy placerdquo ldquounder the shepherds Rod- yearly appointments with Jesus of course on the Day of Atonement As the Samaritans were enamored with Simon the Great the so called Great power of God this adulterous generation clamors for and will receive many more perhaps even more powerful versions of Bentley Cain Joyner Jones and even Branham until the coming of the ultimate Great Man- the antichrist himself The Emphasis is wrong we are not called to seek greatness or to adulate Great men When Peter said to Simon Magus in Acts 8 that he perceived that Simon was in the gall of bitterness (see Acts 823) he was quoting Moses warning that idolatry would become a root of bitterness to Israel (Deuteronomy 2918) Peter saw it also that this fascination with greatness in men and lust to see great works of power would be the beginning for the church what idolatry would be for Israel a root of bitterness defiling many Perhaps it is not too late to turn away from this idolatry of greatness and great men and lust for Great power The church is actually sick at least the expression of the church following the Greatness Movement- perhaps this sickness will not be unto death but that even yet there will be a humble turning that God be glorified
