Enfront de la nostàlgia tètrica de la fotografia, la pintura oferia tradicionalment una evocació més carnal i física de les persones i les seves vides. Però des de Warhol i després amb Gerhard Richter la presència de la pintura s’ha amalgamat amb l’espectralitat de la fotografia, reunides en l’alt valor de la iconicitat en la cultura contemporània. L’obra de Miquel Wert parteix d’aquest problema. Quelcom s’esvaeix i quelcom perdura alhora en aquestes imatges construïdes amb un trenat de traços de carbonet. La precisió de l’instant, l’arbitrarietat de l’anècdota fan que tinguem la sensació de ser davant un moment precís, en un temps carregat d’existència; però la claror blanca del fons, per contrast, ens enlluerna i contamina d’una qualitat etèria, d’una fragilitat inquietant. La imatge esdevé fascinant i irresoluble, permanent i incompleta, com els vestigis, no del passat, sinó del futur.

Miquel Wert: dibuixar des de la frontera

El dibuix, ho deia Philip Rawson, es deu a un principi cinètic. El seu fonament és el moviment, el traç, la velocitat de pensament perseguint la utopia, en la qual està implícita la vibració de l’error, la fragilitat del moviment humà. Durant massa temps a Occident hem intentat, sota el refinament il·lustrat, eliminar aquest principi fonamental del dibuix, que s’amagava a les parets d’Altamira, a les catacumbes medievals, sota els frescos de les ermites, en els apunts de Miquel Àngel, en els autoretrats de Rembrandt; i que en el pensament contemporani reemergeixen en la contracultura, en el còmic, en el creador antropòleg, en la llibreta del creador humorista. L’obra de Miquel Wert preserva aquest principi cinètic fonamental del dibuix: les seves escenes quotidianes vibren atrapades en un temps indeterminat, descansen en algun lloc entre el mite i l’escena marginal, destil·lades d’algun fragment de fotografia de postguerra mundial. Wert sap dignificar el traç abandonant-lo al misteri i a la profunditat: les mirades i gestos es fonen en volums, que al seu torn s’enllacen amb la natura, que al seu torn descansa en un oasi de solitud i abandó. La capacitat d’eternitzar l’instant a la frontera incerta entre el temps i l’espai.

Facing the gloomy nostalgia of photography, painting traditionally offered a more physical view of people and their lives. But since Warhol and thereafter with Gerhard Richter, the presence of painting has been blended with the spectrality of photography, gathered in the high value of iconography in contemporary culture. The work of Miquel Wert sets out this issue. Something fades away and something remains at the same time in these images made by intermingled strokes of charcoal. The accuracy of the moment, the arbitrariness of the story makes us feel as being in front of a determinate instant, a time loaded with existence. But the white light at the background pollutes and dazzles us with an ethereal quality, a haunting fragility. The image becomes fascinating and impossible, permanent and incomplete, like the remains not from the past but from the future.

Miquel Wert: Drawing from the border

Drawing, Philip Rawson said, is due to a kinetic principle. Its basis is the movement, the stroke, the speed of thought chasing utopia, in which the vibration of the mistake is implied, the fragility of human movement. For too long we westerners have tried, under the enlightened refinement, to erase this principle: from the concealed drawings in the walls of Altamira, the medieval catacombs, beneath the frescoes of the chapels, in Michelangelo’s notes, in Rembrandt’s self-portraits, to their reappearance in the counterculture, in the comics, in the anthropologist, or in the notepad of the comedian. The work of Miquel Wert preserves this kinetic principle of drawing: their everyday scenes vibrate trapped in an indeterminate time lying somewhere between the myth and the marginal scene, revealed from some section of post-World War photography. Wert knows how to dignify the stroke leaving it to the depth and mystery: the gazes and gestures merge into volumes which in turn are related to nature which furthermore rests in an oasis of solitude and abandonment.
