State Law for a

MIP Offense

As a result of a violation to the CWU

policy for underage possession

and/or drinking, one or more of the

following sanctions may occur:

Verbal warning

Issue an official warning

Require payment of fines or

damages

Issue probation

Issue a deferred suspension

Issue a suspension

Eviction

Expulsion

Community service hours

This applies to ALL members of

the Central Washington University

community at all events, on or off

campus, anything sponsored by

the university, including clubs and

organizations, and/or held in any

university facility.

CWU Residence

Hall Policy

Alcohol is not permitted in the

residence halls

No minor can possess or consume

alcohol in the residence halls

Residents over the age of 21 who

have roommate(s) that are

underage are reminded of the legal

liability placed on them.

Residents and guests may not

consume alcohol in public areas or

in the room of a resident who is

under 21 years of age

Residents may not consume or

possess alcohol in substance-free

residence halls

Home brewing of alcohol is not

permitted in the residence halls

Beer kegs or large quantities of

alcoholic beverages are not

permitted

Residents who come back to the

residence halls in an intoxicated

state and/or violate hall policy, will

be held responsible for violating

those policies and all alcohol

policies that apply.

In the State of Washington it is

unlawful for any person under the

age of twenty-one years to possess,

consume, or otherwise acquire any

liquor. If someone was to violate this

they would be charged with a gross

misdemeanor (RCW 66.44.270). A

gross misdemeanor is punishable by

a fine up to a thousand dollars, or up

to ninety days of

jail time (RCW

9A.20.010).

A MIP charge is

given to anyone

under the age of

twenty-one is

showing any

effects of alcohol

consumption in a public place, or if

they are in a vehicle in a public

place. The effects of having drank

alcohol are the odor of liquor on their

breath, has possession of or is near

to a container that currently has or

had liquor in it; their physical

demeanor that shows symptoms of

alcohol consumption (RCW

66.44.270).
