Yázigi OPs play a very important part in the success of the school and moti vati on of teachers and students. They deal with problems, work out soluti ons and actually make a diff erence in these people’s lives. It’s a rewarding positi on but it can be a ti ring one if the OPs don’t look at themselves, their lives and careers, trying to maintain their spirits and moti vati on high.Self-coaching is a way of getti ng to know yourself bett er, your needs and take control of your ti me, tasks and talent. “Guide your teachers as a lighthouse: Allow them to make their own way through the classes, their sea. Do not chart their course for them, rather show them where the shore is and assist them in fi nding it themselves.”If a supporti ve in-service work of classroom observati ons, feedback and talk sessions, and pedagogical meeti ngs does not take place, it is easy for teachers do deviate from their practi ce and fall into the trap of automati sm. Pedagogical Coordinators can and must help their group of teachers to link their theoreti cal knowledge and their everyday practi ce. Results suggest that even when teachers’ theory-in-acti on diff ers from their espoused theory, with coordinators guidance and teachers’ refl ecti on improvement occurs. The presenter of this workshop is going to share some of her worries and some taken acti ons to engage the pedagogical team in an ongoing process of self-refl ecti on. The examples that will be discussed will focus on issues like increasing student’s talking ti me; promoti ng group and collaborati ve work; and especially on how to work with the three phases of a task in class.

This workshop focuses on the relati onship between the OP and the Spanish teacher. In this session, we will discuss the OP’s role in the Spanish teacher development process, how the OP can parti cipate acti vely in this process and contribute for the teacher’s refl exive development. Many arti cles, such as Vieira- Abrahão (2001) and Almeida Filho (1997) discuss and reinforce the relevance of foreign language teacher’s in-service development. Therewith, the aim is to promote an improvement to the classes off ered and, consequently, to empower the student’s sati sfacti on and permanence in the school.

Yázigi classrooms have been permeated by technology ever since. With the upcoming of internet, new features took place as the e-learning. Currently, m-learning and more recently, ubiquitous learning (u-learning) involves learning in an environment where “all students have access to a variety of digital devices and services, including computers connected to the Internet and mobile computi ng devices, whenever and wherever they need them” (van’t Hooft , Swan, Cook, & Lin, 2007, p. 6). So, the purpose of acquiring the use of the latest technology is not to simple “novate”, i.e, replace, but to “innovate”, i.e. to introduce changes and new ideas. As a result, new roles for the teachers, students, and learning are being designed in order to develop and maintain lifelong learning. Having this context as background, this workshop aims at presenti ng and working on the concepts menti oned, as well as providing the Pedagogical Coordinators some refl ecti on about trendy issues regarding the-not-future-anymore educati on compared to the results of a research conducted among Yázigi teachers on how they are dealing with the present technology inside their classrooms. Moreover, core educati onal aspects have to be taken into considerati on so that the main goal of educati on in post-modern ti mes is preserved, therefore through updated means.

We will debate acti ons that are pedagogically correct and have a good deal of marketi ng, which may help improve results related to drop-outs, re-enrollment, customers’ loyalty, and much more.

Then, through several group acti viti es, parti cipants will be asked to refl ect on how the last technological evoluti on, more humane in its very own nature, can have impact on the teaching/learning philosophy (view of educati on and view of language) embraced by the Yázigi organizati on.

This workshop will discuss how new technologies, by themselves, can’t change the scenario of poorly planned classes, underprepared teachers and outdated methodologies, but how these technologies can be extremely powerful tools when combined with new educati on concepts and practi ces. We will play with new technologies, but will also see that Innovati on in Educati on does not depend on gadgets, but on teachers that are able to rethink their role in the 21st century classroom.

The objecti ve of this workshop is to present an alternati ve technique for carrying out interviews (the STAR - situati on, task, acti on and result - model) during the teacher selecti on process. By using the STAR technique, Academic Coordinators will be able to analyze whether job applicants have the competences needed to be a Yázigi teacher, based on past behaviour. This approach has been broadly described in the HR literature (PONTES, SERRANO, 2005; CARVALHO, PASSOS, SARAIVA, 2008; BANOV, 2011; among others) and has been applied by many global companies to identi fy talented professionals.

This work is aimed at presenting results of improvements concerning Yazigi schools team work referring to relationships in the workplace. Although communication has been enhanced through net sharing, humanization thru person-to-person contact is still crucial to promote social development. So, some events were developed in the two Yázigi schools as to make the whole staff more integrated including teachers, academic coordinators and other employees. After some ideas carried out by the academic coordinators and supported by the school principal, teachers started to have a better interaction with one another and other employees. Testimonials presented feelings of comfort, low anxiety and motivation and such positive experience is truly essential in our network.

DEVELOPING TEACHER’S PERCEPTION AND INSIGHT: EFFECTIVE TOOLS AGAINST DROPOUTSJimmy AzevedoYázigi Petrolina/[email protected]

This communication will present a case study on how a very inauspicious situation (a new team of teachers, with no Yázigi or teaching background) ended up quite well due to a series of particular practices, such as a close collaborative relationship between academic coordinator and teachers, the frequency and particular aspects of pedagogical meetings, etc.; which took into account essential tools hardly objectively measured: the teacher’s perception and insight on students’ behavior, motivation, and learning– such practice resulted in a 50% dropout decrease compared to the previous semester, and in an 89% reenrollment intention (according to recent survey this semester).
