Asimple, easy-to-learn action has the power to save lives, perhaps that of your spouse or friend. The

Minnetonka Fire Department will provide a free life-saving bystander CPR/AED class. Learn CPR skills and AED use to greatly increase rates of survival for cardiac arrest victims and the importance of quickly calling 911. Participants will leave the class with both knowledge and a wallet reminder card of the steps to take in an emergency.

Come hear one man’s story of his service with the Union forces under General Grant and General

Sherman. Learn how the victory at Fort Donelson propelled Grant to the forefront of military leaders and how Grant’s surrender term, “no terms, except an unconditional surrender” became the rallying cry of the North.

Learn of how the troops marching with Sherman to Savannah almost died of starvation and how the tide turned. Learn how these same troops presented President Lincoln with a Christmas gift of the city of Savannah.

Play pickleball at Williston

Use a plastic ball and a wooden racket slightly larger than a ping pong paddle to play on a court half

the size of a tennis court. This is not a league. Rackets are provided for newcomers

to test the game. Those who plan to play on a regular basis are asked to buy their own racket. Pickleball times at Williston Fitness Center:

H.O.M.E. services available

Household and Outside Maintenance for Elderly (H.O.M.E.) for Minnetonka residents aged 60+

has volunteer groups and paid workers available to help with yard clean up, snow removal, window washing, painting, small repair jobs and house cleaning. Minnetonka H.O.M.E. Beginning & Intermediate Yoga –Nancy Holasek

These gentle Yoga classes are geared toward the older adult with lots of stretching and warm-ups. The

yoga postures help build strength, stamina, and increase flexibility and range of motion. Guided breath-work and visualization help to release, relax, and restore the body, and calm the mind.Chair Supported Yoga:

Most of the class is done while seated on a chair. Some standing and balance postures are done, using the chair as a prop or support if necessary. Intermediate Yoga Class:

This class includes standing and balance postures. Students should have the ability to get down to and up from the floor for postures completed while on the belly or backside of the body. Many seated postures are also done on the floor. Please bring a yoga mat or towel to class. 2

Art classes–Gin Weidenfeller• February art class – Free-hand sketching & drawing:

Explore a variety of sketch and draw methods to enhance your drawing pleasure. Develop keen observation skills through drawing contour and negative space exercises, value studies and modeling, apply grids, shapes and drawing guidelines, and select just enough detail and pattern to capture a subject’s essence. Create a portfolio of realistic, abstract, or expressive drawings depicting various subject matter.

• March art class – Watercolor-methods, studies & styles:Review basic watercolor techniques to enhance your artistic skill. Explore the art of wash, brushstrokes, texture, color schemes, contrasts, value gradation, glaze, dry brush, dry n’ wet, modeling, styles including realism, abstraction expressionism to paint nature objects, still life or landscape sketches. British History–Terry KubistaEngland Explored• Part I– Stroll around England. Visit some of the

important cities, including Bath and the Lake District, and learn about their impact on British history.

• Part II– Financing and taxing of the manor houses and castles of Great Britain has inspired many creative financial ideas. Let’s visit some of those manor houses, understand their problems and discuss the different techniques used to pay for their maintenance.

• Part III– The Queen of England owns three of the most beautiful buildings in the kingdom. We’ll discuss the buildings’ history as well as visiting these famous buildings on video. While not owned by the Queen, the Tower of London and its treasures will also be visited. 2

• Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m . – 4:30 p.m. Each caller can reserve up to four spaces on a trip.

• Payment is due at the time of registration: Checks payable to “Minnetonka Senior Services.” Minnetonka Senior Services, 14600 Minnetonka Boulevard, Minnetonka, MN 55345. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted.

• Trips are planned for senior residents of Minnetonka who are given first priority at registration time. Only Minnetonka residents can sign up on the first day; others may register on the second day.

• Listed bus/van pickup locations and times are tentative depending on actual registration. Registrants will be notified only if changes are necessary.

• Trip cancellation policy: Refunds, minus a $5 administration cost, can only be given if you cancel before the payment deadline. If a cancellation is made after the payment deadline, the participant is refunded/credited for everything but $5 only if a replacement is found.

Tips for registering for tours and adventures• Call before you send in your money to make sure space is

available.

• Popular trips can fill up on the first day of registration. Call early for those trips you don’t want to miss.

• If you need a refund, you may apply credit to your account, which can be used anytime.
