Important Registration Information/PoliciesRegistration forms are available on the 2014 Annual Conference webpage at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Events-Programs/Events/Annual-Conference.aspx
Register early – payment must be received by the conference date, but it need not accompany your registration form. Before you give the registration form to your institution’s Business Office for processing, please fax NACADA a copy of the conference registration first. This is for your protection – many registrations are delayed for weeks at the institution and do not arrive in our office until after the opening date of the conference.
Be sure to send us an actual copy of the Agency Purchase Order (APO) as soon as it is available. An APO number without the actual form will not suffice. NACADA’s Federal Employer ID number (FEIN) is 48-1114759.
Registrations and/or payments received on/after September 30th will need to register on-site. Registrations and payments via mail or online will not be processed at the Executive Office after September 30th. Registrations on-site must be paid or guaranteed with an actual purchase order or credit card.
Payment not received by the conference date – payment must be made before receiving conference materials on-site. Cash, check, or credit card authorization will be accepted on-site. Credit cards will be processed if other payment has not been received by October 20, 2014.
Registration transfers – Paid registrations may be transferred to another individual at your institution if you notify NACADA in advance in writing.
Refund policy – Membership dues are not refundable. To receive a refund of conference fees, less a $50 processing fee, send a written request to the Executive Office by August 14, 2014. After this date, 50% will be refunded with written notification until September 10. No refund requests can be granted after September 10, 2014. Refund checks will be issued after the conference.
Registrants who fail to cancel their registrations through the Executive Office, in writing, will be responsible for the total conference registration fee even if they do not attend the conference and have not
paid the registration fee.
Questions regarding the conference, your membership status, or NACADA can be directed to the Executive Office via email to [email protected], phone (785) 532-5717, or fax (785) 532-7732.

The Annual Conference offers you more than just attending sessions; there are also many opportunities for you to network.
NEW for 2014 — Experienced Advisor TrackThis year a specialized “conference within a conference” will be open to experienced advisors who meet established criteria. There will be two tracks of multiple closed sessions offered during the conference with limited seating available for those chosen to participate. Once slots for both tracks have been filled, no additional participants will be added. Sign-up will be on a first-come first-served basis for those who meet guidelines. NACADA listens, and we are excited to provide this much anticipated opportunity for experienced advisors. Be sure to check the conference webpage for details concerning this new opportunity!
Mobile APP!Be sure to download the mobile APP being offered again this year. This is a great way to have conference information at your fingertips! The APP provides a great opportunity to access conference information; join in on social network activity, and more. Download instructions will be available on the annual conference website this summer.
Common ReadingPrior to the conference, all participants will be invited to read a common research article and then join their fellow participants on Thursday, October 9 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in a discussion of the article and its ramifications for academic advising. Look for information on the NACADA Annual Conference website as it becomes available. (Sponsored by the Research Committee)
Silent AuctionThe silent auction is being organized for the seventh year to help provide scholarships to graduate students wishing to attend the Annual or regional conferences. Watch for information on how to donate to this exciting event as well as how to bid on wonderful auction items!
Commission/Interest Group Fair with Continental BreakfastJoin the Commission and Interest Groups Friday, October 10 from 7:15 – 8:30 a.m. in Ballroom A/B for an opportunity to meet and network with your colleagues during breakfast. Each Commission and Interest Group will have an informational table with material concerning the group’s goals and activities and how you can get involved. All attendees are invited, whether or not you have joined any commissions or interest groups. Come learn more and enjoy the networking! Continental Breakfast will be available.
Poster SessionsBe sure to take advantage of two opportunities to view the poster session this year. Posters will be featured twice during the conference. Posters will be available for viewing outside the Ballroom during the opening reception Wednesday evening October 8th, followed by the official poster session on Thursday morning, October, 9th from 7:15 – 8:15 a.m., outside the Ballroom. You will have an opportunity to view posters at your convenience during the opening reception. On Thursday during the poster session, presenters will have an opportunity to discuss their poster presentations with participants in one-on-one discussions or in small groups to facilitate sharing valuable information. The poster sessions will be built around a continental breakfast (included in the conference registration fee) for all participants.
NACADA “Hot Topic” SessionsPlan on attending one of the “Hot Topic” sessions presented by NACADA Commissions and Interest Groups. These “Hot Topic” sessions provide a forum for discussion of a major issue as well as serving as an additional opportunity for members to network one last time during the last hour of the conference.
Optional ToursTake advantage of the exceptional custom tours being offered as an option throughout the conference. The tours will provide an opportunity to explore the beauty of Minneapolis at your leisure! Specific information on tours can be found on the conference website this summer.
ExhibitsJoin us on Level 2 and the Mezzanine Level to meet with our exhibitors who bring tremendous value and professionalism to our conference by presentation of their products and services! Terrell L. Strayhorn, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Higher Education in the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE) at The Ohio State University (OSU), where he also serves as Director of the Center for Inclusion, Diversity, and Academic Success (IDEAS), EHE Chief Diversity Officer,
Faculty Research Associate in the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race & Ethnicity, and Senior Research Associate in the Todd A. Bell National Resource Center for African American Males. He also holds faculty appointments in OSU’s Departments of African and Africana Studies, Engineering Education, and Sexuality Studies (by courtesy). Strayhorn maintains an active and highly visible research agenda focusing on major policy issues in education: student access and achievement, equity and diversity, impact of college on students, and student learning and development. Specifically, his research and teaching interests center on two major foci: (a) assessing student learning and development outcomes and the ways in which college affects students and (b) identifying and understanding factors that enable or inhibit the success of historically underrepresented and misrepresented populations in education, with a particular accent on issues of race, class, and gender and how they affect the experiences of racial/ethnic minorities, college men, economically disadvantaged individuals, and marginalized groups in postsecondary education.
Professor Strayhorn is sole author or lead editor of 7 books/volumes, including Frameworks for Assessing Learning and Development Outcomes (2006), Money Matters: Influence of Financial Aid on Graduate Student Persistence (2006), African American Student Persistence (2008), The Evolving Challenges of Black College Students (2010), College Students Sense of Belonging (2012), Living at the Intersections (2013), and the forthcoming Theoretical Frameworks in College Student Research. He has published more than 80 refereed journal articles, book chapters, scholarly reviews, and commissioned reports. He has also presented more than 150 papers at international and national conferences, including invited keynotes and panel discussions. External grants totaling over $2 million from agencies such as the US Department of Education, National Science Foundation (NSF), and American College Personnel Association (ACPA) support his research program. In 2008, Strayhorn received a prestigious NSF CAREER grant, the highest honor that NSF awards early career scientists, for his 5-year project titled, “Investigating the Critical Junctures: Strategies that Broaden Minority Male Participation in STEM Fields.”
Named “one of the most highly visible scholars in his field,” by the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, Strayhorn has received the 2007 ACPA Emerging Scholar Award, NASAP Benjamin L. Perry Professional Service Award, SACSA Outstanding New Professional Award, 2008 ACPA Annuit Coeptis Emerging Professional Award, 2009 UTK Helen B. Watson Faculty Research Award, 2009 Early Career Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), and in 2011, Diverse Issues in Higher Education named him one of the nation’s “Top Emerging Scholars.” Strayhorn was named “Who’s Who in Columbus” and selected as one of Business First’s “20 to Know in Education.”
Strayhorn is Co-Editor of Spectrum: A Journal on Black Men (published by Indiana University Press), Associate Editor of the NASAP Journal, and Associate Editor of The Journal of Higher Education. Member of the editorial boards for the Journal of College Student Development, Journal of Student Affairs Research & Policy, The Review of Higher Education, and College Student Affairs Journal, he is actively involved in professional service as past-Director of Research & Scholarship for ACPA, past-Chair of the Council on Ethnic Participation within ASHE, Chair of AERA Division J Taskforce, and Faculty Liaison to the NASPA Men and Masculinities Knowledge Community.
Strayhorn received a bachelor’s degree (BA) from the University of Virginia (UVA), a masters degree (M.Ed.) in educational policy from the Curry School of Education at UVA, and doctorate (PhD) in higher education from Virginia Tech.
