UNITED METHODIST MEN UMM July 19, 2015 meeting notes:

Scoofer Jordan presented a devotion on what the Bible states about judging others.

So far, UMM has provided eight summer camp scholarships to Saint Luke youth.

The next UMM fundraiser will be a golf tournament at Cypress Creek Golf Club on September 19, at 9:00 AM. Cost will be $50.00 per player and hole sponsorships will be $75.00 each. Lunch will be provided. We encourage all golfers to form a team and play as this is one of our two major fundraisers for the year. UMM members are actively pinning golf tournament flyers wherever possible and soliciting companies that have been either/both hole sponsors and door prizes donators. Saint Luke UMM funds many different outreach efforts, so we need as many teams as possible in order to help reach out to our community for Christ.

Next meeting is Sunday August 16, 2015 at 7:30 AM. We invite all men of the church (including youth!) to attend and enjoy a great breakfast and fellowship.

Relay for Life 2015: Oct. 2-3

The Saints and Survivors invite you to JOIN our team, purchase a luminary, and participate in our fundraisers. Registration forms are on the table in the back of the sanctuary or you can sign up online yourself.

Thanks to all who supported our Car Wash with hard work or dirty cars.

Also, place an order for a homemade pecan pie (Priscilla Weir’s culinary skills) to be delivered in late August. Fresh apple pies (mountain picked) will be available in September. A donation of $30 is requested. Contact Team Captains Kim McGugan or Mary Callahan-Lopez with ques-tions or ideas.

Food Pantry

Nearly twenty servants came to serve during our Saturday food day. Some bagged, prayed, registered

guests, poured drinks, issued name tags, wiped tables, and served breakfast. All were beautiful

witnesses for Christ to His children.

Thank you to Scots for Youth, a local youth-serving nonprofit. Their youth prepared 1,000 mesh bags in

preparation for our community's first cucumber "drop". Through the Society of St Andrews gleaning

program, we expect more than 20,000lbs to be

delivered.

If your garden is producing more than you can eat, feel free to share with Church and Community

Services across from the post office (103 N. Gill Street, Laurinburg).

All of our feeding ministry events are posted on our online church calendar

Our next food bank is August 8 at 8:30am.

Youth News

‘He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.’ Col. 1:17

‘Thread’ was the theme at Teen Valley Ranch this year – discovering the thread that runs through-out the entire Bible. If you can learn how to find this thread, you will always be able to find the cross. In Luke 24: 25 – 27, Jesus said to them: “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all

the Scriptures concerning himself.” The youth had a wonderful time that week and brought back many fun memories and new lessons from God. One important lesson that the youth talked about was the message about forgiving oth-ers. We are being disobedient if we do not obey this commandment from God. (Eph 4:31 - 32, Luke 17:3-4, Col 3:13) Unforgiveness holds us captive if we don’t forgive and it will hurt the ones you love the most. It affects our effectiveness in the Kingdom. (John 15:9-14) It puts us in God’s place which is wrong. (James 4:12) If you look at the picture on our shirts, the letters are not finished – and God’s story is not finished. We are thrilled to be a part of it.

50th Anniversary – January 31, 2016. Please plan to attend and be a part of this special day at Saint Luke. Invite your family members and friends that have moved away. Cards are availa-ble under the bulletin board.

THANK YOU

Dear Saint Luke family,

Dawn, Grayson, Sawyer, and I do not have the words to show appreciation for the outpouring of sincere love that has been given to us since the sudden passing of our beloved daddy, grand-daddy, and husband. We have always been taught that the time is already chosen, but we were-n’t ready for God’s time for Tom. His death is hard for us to believe, but please know that we feel the love of his and our Saint Luke family as we accept God’s plan. Thanks for your thoughts, calls, visits, food, donations, and most of all your prayers. Don’t stop praying for us though!!

Love you ALL, Hattie Bob
