Ministry of Textiles Government of India ******** Monthly Summary for the month of August, 2016 1. Stakeholders meeting: Hon'ble Minister of Textile, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani interacted with a large gathering of the Powerloom Industry stakeholders including the Members of Parliament on 22 nd August, 2016 at New Delhi and discussed various issues related to the crisis faced by this Sector. 2. As a follow up to the Stakeholders meeting, Hon'ble Minister of Textile chaired an Inter-Ministerial meeting on powerloom with various concerned Ministries and Mr. Arvind Panagariya, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog on 24.8.2016 to apprise the Ministry on the need for a special focus/ attention on the sector. 3. "Colours of Independence": A Nation-wide campaign called the "Colours of Independence" was launched across 70 locations from the 9 th to 15 th August, 2016. The campaign involved participation of people in painting on the Khadi cloth under portals located at popular venues. The celebrations were marked by enthusiastic participation of youth, public representatives and celebrities alike. 4. Second National Handloom Day: The Second National Handloom Day was celebrated all over the country and it was widely covered in the media. The main function was organized in Varanasi in which Hon'ble Minister of Textiles was the Chief Guest. 5. Transfer of Indu Mill Land for the Memorial of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar: The Union Cabinet approved the terms and conditions for transfer of 12 acres of land of Indu-6 Mill land vested in National Textiles Corporation Limited to Government of Maharashtra for construction of a memorial of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar on 3 rd August, 2016. 6. Closure of National Jute Manufacturers Corporation (NJMC) and Bird Jute & Exports Ltd. (BJEL): In pursuance of NITI Aayog's recommendation, "in principle" approval has been accorded for the closure of NJMC and BJEL. 7. Progress under ATUFS (as on 31.8.2016): The expenditure in the month of August, 2016 under TUFS is Rs. 135.61 crores. 863 sanctions were issued

Monthly Summary for the month of August, 2016

1. Stakeholders meeting: Hon'ble Minister of Textile, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani

11. Discontinuation of the services of DGS&D in the Jute purchase

operations: The Union Cabinet in its meeting held on 3.08.2016 approved the

discontinuation of services of DGS&D in the operations of procurement of

supply of Jute Bags. The activities presently performed by DGS&D for

procurement of jute bags shall be performed by Jute Commissioner of India,

Ministry of Textiles w.e.f. 1.11.2016. A follow up meeting was held on 11th

August, 2016 for finalizing issues like transfer of posts from Commerce,

unsettled payments etc.

8. Integrated Skill Development: Out of total target of 4,40,000 persons during

2016-17 till August, 2016, a total of 1,63,789 persons have been trained and

66, 637 persons are under-going training.

9. Joint Meeting with Ministry of Agriculture: A meeting was held between

Secretary (Textiles) and Secretary, DAC&FW, Ministry of Agriculture on 23rd

August, 2016 to discuss all policy issues on cotton including support on

agricultural extension and accurate forecasting of the crop production.

10. Minimum Support Price operations of cotton: In the present cotton season

2015-16 (October, 2015 to September, 2016) 337.46 lakh bales have arrived

so far. Out of this, 8.44 lakh bales have been procured by CCI under MSP

operations and 8.32 lakh bales have been sold through e-auction leaving a

balance of 0.12 lakh bales.
