At NIFTEM, we aim to emerge as the leading centre of comprehensive

learning at the international level. Many salient features make

NIFTEM a unique place to study. The conventional pattern of teaching

ABOUT US

National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) was conceptualized by the Government of India on persistent demand of the food industry to have an apex organisation as a 'One- Stop Solution Provider' for various problems of the food sector. The Institute is affiliated to Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India an disspread over of 100 acres at a prime location in close proximity of North Delhi Kundli at Delhi-Haryana border. The Institute aims to become an International Centre of Excellence which integrates technological, managerial and be havioural aspects of the Indian Food Processing Industry with a clear objective of catapulting the sector to the Numero Uno position in the world. Primarily, it aims to produce world-class business leaders, develop competitive processes and technologies recognised globally, and initiate best practices in the area of food technology, entrepreneurship and management.

EVENTS AT NIFTEM

Campus to Corporate

As NIFTEM successfully wrapped up another academic

session, it also marked the beginning of another

collaboration. As a skill development initiative by NIFTEM,

a 'Campus-to-Corporate' programme was organized in

collaboration with an employability training service

provider. The program aimed at grooming NIFTEMites in

terms of technical, professional and personal skills to link

students to the corporate world.

Edesia-The Cultural Fest

Organised every year to provide the students with a

rejuvenating atmosphere and bring out their talent and

enthusiasm.

Agastya- The Technical Fest

Various technical events and competitions are

organised during Agastya to allow students to get a

better understanding of the food sector.

NIFTEM Sports League (NSL)

NIFTEM enthusiastically supports the player in every

student. For this very purpose, the institute organizes a

sports league covering a wide range of sports each year.

FSSAI Workshop

FSSAI organised a workshop for NIFTEM students to make them aware of the FSSAI guidelines for various food products. Important topics such as import clearance, licencing and registration, food fortification etc. were discussed with the students.

WFI

World Food India, organized in November 2017 was a three-day extravaganza hosted in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) with an aim to put India on the global map in the food processing industries. Since NIFTEM is the brainchild of MoFPI, our students got the opportunity to attend the conferences and seminars inVigyan Bhawan itself and the massive global food expo that took place at India Gate, New

Convocation (2018)

NIFTEM had its first ever convocation in the month of February in 2018. The convocation saw the presence of honourable President of India along with the honorable minister of food processing industries, Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal accompanied by various ministers of the parliament. It was indeed an honour for the students to receive their degree from his Excellency, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind and other dignitaries.

DU Pont Nutri-Scholars Awards

As NIFTEM is the premier institute for food technology aspirants, corporates have shown a keen interest in motivating and inspiring the budding talent with in the students. DU Pont organized Nutri Scholar awards with an aim to bring out the best amongst the young students who were keen to make it big in the development of new and better food products. A large number of students from NIFTEM participated in the competition and made it to the finale too.

CED

Centre for Entrepreneurial Development is also an essential part of NIFTEM and is involved in boosting the budding entrepreneurs to start their own business ventures. CED organises various seminars and workshops to bring out the best among the students.

NIFTEM Gymkhana

The NIFTEM Gymkhana comprises of seven societies, namely, Saarang: The Cultural Society, Geetanjali: The Literary Society, Alabhayam: The Technical Society, Kalakriti: The Fine Arts Society, Samarthya: The Sports Society, Vyaktitva: The Personality Development Society and NWM (NIFTEM Waste Management). Students actively invest their time in these societies which help in their overall development as an individual.

Alumni Meet (2018)

NIFTEM organized an Alumni Meet on 9th February, 2018 to broaden its alumni network. NIFTEM's Alumni is an integral part of the NIFTEM family. As an effort to further strengthen the association with the extended family, the event was organized in close coincidence with the maiden convocation of NIFTEM.

HACCP Workshop

A workshop was organised within the campus to make the students aware of HACCP. The students were informed about the basic concept and guidelines of HACCP, its need in the prospering food industry and much more. Also, students were informed about various ISO standards. On the whole, it was quite an interactive and informative session for the students.

Workshop on Food Safety and Quality Control

A workshop on food safety and quality control was organised within the campus with an aim to provide a basic layout of food safety standards followed during the production and preparation of various food products on an industrial level.

CRD

Corporate Resource Division is one of the most important divisions in the campus actively involved in arranging and providing internships and placements to the students. It has been working to build strong campus-corporate relationships to attract food companies to NIFTEM and providing a maximum chance to students to find good jobs in this sector. Apart from this, CRD is also involved in preparing the students for job interviews by organizing group discussions and mock interviews.

PILOT PLANTS and INCUBATION CENTERS

In order to cater to the needs of the Food Industry (Large Scale, Medium, Small & Micro Scale

Enterprises), NIFTEM has set up four Pilot Plants within its campus covering the following sectors:

• Fruits and Vegetable Processing

• Meat and Poultry Processing

• Milk and Dairy Products

• Ready-To-Eat and Traditional Foods

OBJECTIVES OF PILOT PLANTS:

The above four Pilot Plants have been set up at NIFTEM to meet the following objectives:

• Serve as Business Incubation Centres for the existing food industries as well as the budding

entrepreneurs from both large scale industries as well as medium, small and micro enterprises to

incubate their ideas and also to facilitate in providing 'Hands-on Training' to students, progressive

farmers as well as the potential entrepreneurs

• Provide a vital source for food companies that are just starting up or evaluating new processes or

product lines

• Provide processing vessels, product and process lines of varying capacities to cater to the needs of

the different sectors of the food industry (large, medium, small and micro enterprises)

• Provide research facilities to the food industry for the development of novel and innovative products

and processes and modification of existing products and processes

• Make available the facilities for the evaluation of new ingredients, formulations and processes on a

small and medium scale production and demonstration

• Develop new technologies and ultimately commercialize them

Village Adoption Programme• A unique program to sensitize students and educate them about the problems and practices of the

farmers at the grass root level• Aims to help the Indian Food Processing Sector in integrating the underprivileged sections of our

population with the mainstream economy• Currently spread across 34 villages in10 states of India• Includes activities like surveys, conducting training and awareness programs, encouraging potential

entrepreneurs, SHGs etc

International Students Exchange Programme• An innovative approach to achieve excellence in academics• Meritorious undergraduate and postgraduate students are sent to different renowned universities of the

world• Students attend various lectures, visit laboratories, industries, farms etc. and also learn their culture

which helps in expanding their social and knowledge sphere• Institute of Food Safety and Health (USA), Kansas State University (USA), University of

Saskatchewan (Canada), McGill University (Canada), Purdue University (USA) and University of Georgia (Griffin Campus, USA) were the various universities visited

Achievements, Collaborations and Outreach• NIFTEM has successfully conducted over 22 outreach programmes across various cities in the

country, within 5 years of its inception• Signed MoUs with major institutes in India like various IITs and IIMs, and across the globe, like

Kansas State University, University of Nebraska, Wageningen University to name a few• Active coordination with ICAR, CFTRI, DFRL, DRDO, IITs, IIMs, NITIE etc.• Areas of collaboration include course design, faculty exchange, R&D, business incubation,

developing quality and food safety standards etc.• Open to sign MoUs with corporates in order to have a stronger industry interface and mutually

beneficial ties resulting in collaborative enrichment of the food processing sector• Already signed a first of its kind MoU with Aachi Masala Pvt. Ltd.

NIFTEM offers a full time programme leading to a Bachelor`s degree in Food Technology and

Management. This programme includes are blend of technology and management courses, where by the

goal is to produce graduates who are techno-managers of the future. The course was designed on the

demand of industries, so that NIFTEM graduates can handle not only the technical but, also the

managerial issues in the food industry.

The duration of the course is four years which are divided into two semesters per year.

FOOD PLANT OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT (FPOM)It involves a unique blend of food technology and operations management to foster improvement in the production processes of the food industry. It deals with the design and management of products, processes and services. It considers the acquisition, development, and utilization of resources that firms need to deliver the goods and services, i.e., their client's want. The purview of Food Plant Operations Management ranges from strategic to tactical and operational levels. Representative strategic issues include determining the size and location of food manufacturing plants and deciding the structure of service or production system. Tactical issues include plant layout and structure, project management methods, and equipment selection and replacement. Operational issues include production scheduling and control, inventory management, quality control and inspection, traffic and material handling and equipment maintenance policies. The students are exposed to advanced lean manufacturing and operation optimizing techniques.

The programme is designed to promote the growth of the food processing industry in India in the global context by mechanization and automation, engineering intervention for transforming agriculture into food processing industries and motivating entrepreneurship for promoting food processing sector. The curriculum brings synergy to the aims and aspirations of the food industry. The case studies in each course enable students from various backgrounds to quickly grasp the fundamentals of the processes and the technical know-hows.

MBA - Two Years Residential ProgramIn 2016, NIFTEM started its 2-year full-time residential MBA program to create managers and leaders. A unique distinguishing feature of the program is its dual specialization:1.) Food & Agri-Business Management (Compulsory)2.) One of Marketing, Finance or International BusinessStudents discover their true potential after practising rigour and focused hard-work, having selected the specialization of their choice. There area total of 20 mandatory courses spread over four semesters. From the 3rd semester on wards, we offer a range of 30 electives (to select at least 5 in each 3rd and 4th semester); the flexibility ensuring that a student never makes a compromise with his/her desired area of interest.

The academic curriculum is supported by various seminars, guest lectures and an international immersion program wherein all the students get an opportunity to get global exposure in various collaborated universities/ institutions. The MBA 2016-2018 batch visited Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok.
