MINISTRY& FELLOWSHIP AT JOHN WESLEY CHILDREN & YOUTH ANNOUNCEMENTS: Recent Letter from Maydoly! (Compassion Int'l Child Sponsor) We're so excited we received another letter from Maydoly this week! You’ll see it as an insert in this week's Bulletin. She and her family are doing well and asks for prayer for her life, her family and for the program she's in through Compassion International. Youth Group Car Wash Fundraiser (Saturday, July 21, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm) Support our Youth Group one more time this summer by stopping by the church Saturday, July 21st from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to get your car washed! We're asking for at least $5/vehicle, however we will gladly accept any donation! We are in need of volunteers to help our students so please contact Allison if you're interested! It's definitely going to be the funnest car wash you've been to! Youth Group Mission Trip (July 25-28, Winthrop, Maine) We still have spots open for students entering 7th grade and above for our Summer Mission Trip to Winthrop, ME at Methodist Camp Mechuwana where we'll be helping remodel a school into emergency apartments for single mothers and possibly serving at a local nursing home and thrift shop. There will be swimming/boating in the lake, bonfires, outdoor sports etc. Please speak with Allison if you have questions and/or your student(s) are interested in going! Info Packs are on the Children & Youth Bulletin Board in the Fellowship Hall. "Shipwrecked" Vacation Bible School (August 20-24, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm) It's summertime so it's VBS time! Register your student(s) today for VBS either online or stop by our table in the Narthex. VBS is the perfect environment for children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade! Students will learn through Bible stories, crafts, song, dance, etc. that through life's storms, Jesus Rescues! Please speak to Allison today if you're interested in volunteering! SPIRITUAL GROWTH ANNOUNCEMENTS: Joy of Living Series: “Hall of Faith” study Sundays, July at 8:30 am. Led by the Lintons, we will look at the faith of the Old Testament saints as found in Hebrews 11. Come learn about what faith is, about the object of our faith, and about the authority and power available to the believer through faith in God. OUTREACH MINISTRY ANNOUNCEMENTS: “Change the World” every Sunday by putting your loose change in the offering plate. For the months of July and August we are collecting for “Hero’s in Transition” which was founded in memory of Capt. Eric A. Jones, a Marine helicopter pilot, who lost his life while supporting a combat mission in Afghanistan, October 26, 2009. “He flew helicopters to be close to the troops on the ground and be there to help them when they needed it most,” said Cyndy Jones, Eric’s mother and one of the founders of “Heroes in Transition. The organization carries on Capt. Jones’ mission by providing assistance to those who have served or who are serving our country. Service Center Loaves & Fishes Collection: We are challenging the congregation to bring in 500 containers of food during the months of July and August. This time of year, the Falmouth Service Center receives the least donations. So, let’s show them that the story of Jesus feeding the thousands is possible. The Fresh Start Program In its 13 th year the Falmouth Service Center is collecting school supplies for the Fresh Start Backpack Program. Items are being collected for grades k-12. Last year this program helped 293 children to have a fresh start to the school year. Please check the insert or the bulletin board for the list of supplies. There is a bin in the fellowship hall for donations. We are teaming up with Gosnold for their “Playing Above the Influence with the Commodores" Tuesday July 31st 4:00-5:30. This is a family event with interactive activities including a K-9 demo from Barnstable County Sheriff's Dept., a chance to meet Commodores players, Fire Dept. slip n slide, Police cruiser and other vehicles, vision goggle obstacle course, free food, and t-shirts and much more! They are looking for volunteers so grab your RED JWUMC shirt and join Wesley and I from 3:30-5:30! If interested, please let Julie Immelt Whelden know by calling (508) 221-4958 or [email protected]. "English as a Second Language": We are very excited to possibly offer ESL classes here at John Wesley this fall. We are always looking to help the community in different needs and we have found that there is a need for this in Falmouth. This program would run from September to April most likely on Tuesday nights for an hour and a half and Thursday nights for one on one tutoring. If you are interested in volunteering or are trained in ESL please contact Mark Karsner (508) 272-5961 or [email protected]. We hope to have an ESL training July or August. Spaghetti Dinner is in need of a cleanup crew of about 7. Also a dessert coordinator!
