Buying certificates for things like food and gas and gifts costs you no more than the value of the card you purchase! Why not stop before you shop and give the program a try? Certificates are available after Mass every weekend and in the parish and/or school office everyday of the week. Your support of Sioux Falls Catholic School is truly appreciated!

11th, 1916 the property at Cliff Ave. & 8th St. was purchased
by the Diocese for the future home of St. Therese Parish.
The parish was originally named St. John’s with Fr. Patrick
Ryan, the first native South Dakota priest, as the founding
pastor. The first Mass was celebrated in a tent, but not until June of 1917.
The original church on that site wasn’t built until 1926 by Msgr. John Cava-

Good Sunday to all! November is the month of remembrance of all
our beloved dead, especially those who have died since last year. Have you
noticed that November 1, All Saints, and November 2, All Souls, belong
together? All Saints commemorate those who have finished the final journey
and now rest in God. All Souls is about the holy souls in purgatory, still travel-
ling on the journey who need our prayers. As one spiritual writer says: The
Church is a good mother who provides a number of ways to help ensure prayers
for the dearly departed.
Every Mass remembers the Dead in at least two places: 1) As the last of the
Prayers of the Faithful; 2) In the Eucharistic Prayers in what is called the
Memento. For example in Eucharist Prayer III the priest prayers: to our
departed brothers and sisters and to all who were pleasing to you at their
passing from this life, give kind admittance to your kingdom.
One of the spiritual works of mercy is to have Mass celebrated for those
who have died, especially on their anniversaries. The Catechism of the
Catholic Church #958 says: Our prayer for them is capable not only of
helping them, but also of making their intercession for us effective. The
parish office would love to assist you in scheduling such Masses.
One of my practices is to keep a calendar, the dates of death of the impor-
tant people in my life. Just like I send cards to family and friends on birth-
days, I send a prayer for the special ones on their anniversaries.
A last spiritual practice that the Church highly encourages is the visitation
of a cemetery, especially during the first days of November. During No-
vember 1-8, the faithful may obtain a plenary indulgence by making such a
visit. The condition for obtaining a plenary indulgence include: 1) Sacra-
mental Confession; 2) Holy communion; 3) Prayer for the intention of the
Holy Father Pope
FR. DAVID
PS: I will be away from the Parish November 10-11 and 13-14. For emergen-
cies please call the Parish Office.
