interested in volunteering, join us for the Leaders Orientation Meeting at 5:00 p.m. today, August 18, in the Chapel (A-256). Contact Pastor Bryan Miller or Pastor Jason McDonnell.

Ladies Home GatheringJoin us for a fun, casual evening of friends getting together in one of our homes and enjoying each other’s company! Mrs. Colette Olson will be sharing her testimony with us. This month’s home gathering will be Thursday, August 29, from 7:00 p.m.—9:00 p.m. at Michelle Duprey's home. This is for ladies high school

age or older. Light refreshments will be served. For more details and to sign up, see Celeste Parkinson at the Welcome Center.

Home Away From HomeAre you interested in investing in an IBCS student? We are looking for families to participate in the Home Away from Home program, where you “adopt” a college student. This means inviting them over for a meal every once in a while, praying for them, and giving them a sense of home while they are here at IBCS. Please contact Bethany Mestler at [email protected] or 480-245-7992 with any questions.

Sermon Notes

Equipping Servants for Future ServiceSpeaker: Pastor Ken Endean

Text: 2 Timothy 2:1-7

If you will faithfully serve the Lord, you must strive to be...

I. A _______________________________________ Teacher—v. 2

II. A ______________________________________ Soldier—vv. 3-4

III. A ______________________________________ Athlete—v. 5

IV. A _______________________________________ Farmer—v. 6

Both personal _________________________________ and

the Spirit's ________________________________ are necessary for

spiritual understanding (v. 7).

Question to ponder:

• To whom are you ____________________________________ the truths of the Lord?

• How are you _______________________________ against the spirit of the sinful world,

and how are you ___________________________ to please Christ?

• Where are you spiritually ____________________________ for the sake of Godliness?

• In what areas of your life are you _________________________________ and how

are you ______________________ ?

Week of August 18, 2019

Welcome What is your favorite sport to watch, and what aspect of competition makes it exciting?

Worship Revelation 5:9-10. These verses describe the glory Christ will receive in Heaven. Thank the Lord for your redemption and the privilege you have of serving Him on earth.

Word2 Timothy 2:1-2. How do evangelism and discipleship take place? Describe Paul’s relationship with Timothy. Why is this significant to Paul’s instruction? What are some characteristics that make a person an effective teacher of spiritual truth?

2 Timothy 2:3-4. What does the soldier analogy tell you about your spiritual life? What specific lessons can you glean from these verses?

2 Timothy 2:5-6. What lessons should you learn from the analogies of athlete and farmer? Why is it difficult to be patient? What can you learn about patience from James 1:2-3? How should Galatians 6:7-9 encourage you spiritually?

2 Timothy 2:7. What two conditions are necessary for receiving “understanding in all things”?

Witness 2 Timothy 2:8-10. What do these verses communicate about Paul’s evangelistic zeal? Will you pray that God will lead you to people who are seeking the truth of the Gospel? Pray that God will stir the hearts of the unsaved and lead them to us and us to them.
