Jerry Chen A00760057 Set E Mini Project 3 Retail Information For this project I went to Shoppers Drug Mart. In the pharmacy aisle I found some distinctive purple on-shelf coupons promoting Myoflex products. Myoflex is an analgesic (pain reliever) rub for soothing aching muscles and joints. They are available in 3 levels: Regular Strength, Extra Strength, and Maximum Strength. The coupons can save customers $4 off on the purchase of any Myoflex product. By offering such a generous discount (most other coupons in Shoppers offered less than a dollar) the promotion encourages customers to ‘stock up’ on Myoflex even when they don’t need it now. This promotion should appeal to both existing customers and new customers. I do think that the promotion time is a bit too long (it expires in June 30, 2011). It is possible that the urgency of buying Myoflex will be decreased and customers will wait to see if other competitors will offer the same discount. Website Information On the official Myoflex website (http://www.myoflex.ca/?q=home ) it does acknowledge the current promotion in the contests and promotion section. The website should be updated because in the center of the contest/promotion page is a picture of a cash price contest that expired on September 30 th . The current promotion is pushed to the side bar in a little box. Visitors can print off the very same coupon online with the same expiry date and policy. One big difference though is the amount of discount. Instead of 4 dollars off, the website coupon has 3 dollars off. I think the reason for this is that the promotion is a Canada-wide event, but since every province and territory has their own taxes, the amount of discount can vary from region to region. Perhaps the 3 dollar discount is for Alberta, where there is less retail tax. In any case, visitors who have printed the online coupons will be very delighted to find out the discount is actually a dollar more when they visit Shoppers. I highly doubt this price difference is used intentionally to please customers. An established company like Bayer HealthCare (parent company of Myoflex) should know the consequences of fishy pricing tactics. Conclusion Overall I love this promotion. By offering a discount that no other competitors can currently match will certainly gain attention. Myoflex should update their website and fix the coupon price difference to clear things up. The purple coupons are great. It’s easy to spot and different from the seas of white coupons in the same aisle. It will be interesting to see if people will pick up the coupons as time passes.
