HOW CLOSELY CAN YOU MATCH YOU ESTIMATE AND YOUR ACTUAL MEASUREMENT IN METRIC UNITS? PROCEDURE 1. Arrange yourself into groups of five and chose a team captain. 2. Go to your assigned station. Team Captain will read instructions to his/her team. 3. Each person of the team estimates and records his/her estimate on his/her student score sheet. Team Captains are to check that all members have recorded their estimates. 4. Each member, including the team captain, is to perform the task. Measure and record your actual length, mass, volume or area to the nearest whole unit on your individual score sheet. Team Captains need to verify that the measurement was done correctly. 5. Rotate to next station when directed by teacher. 6. When done with all 6 stations, go to your seat and calculate your score for each event. This is done by taking the difference between the estimates and the actual measurement for each event. Record answer in the last column of your score sheet. 7. The overall “Mini Metric Olympian” is awarded to the person that shows the most accuracy in estimating metric measures. This is calculated by adding all the numbers in the score column. The person with the lowest number is the winner. Mini Metric Olympics
