To find out how you can create the gorgeous tiered rosetta cake in the image to the left just click on the image and you will go directly to the recipe.

Here is how to ice this beauty… You will need to ice the middle layer first, using an offset pallet knife gently add a thick layer of icing around the middle layers – you can make this icing as smooth or rustic as you like. Using a 1M wilton tip, fill your icing bag half full with icing. Starting at the bottom of the cake do a full line of rosettes around the bottom of the cake – to make a rosette, do a star and then quickly go clockwise (or anti clockwise) around the star, you will then have a beautiful rosette. Once you’ve done the first line of rosettes, do the middle line – it’s really lovely to offset the rosettes. And then do the top line – once done do mini rosettes atop the bottom tier. Repeat the above steps for the top tier.

Remember that feeling when you felt your unborn baby move or you saw your baby smile or when your baby took their first steps? It’s such an exciting time and so important to capture those moments so you can remember them forever.

I have been lucky to turn a love into a job. I am a Wellington photographer who specialises in Maternity, Newborn and Baby photography. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the love of a parent with their child in a session.

I get to hold and cuddle teeny tiny future prime ministers or artists or carpenters or what ever they are destined for…but the biggest thing I have learnt as a parent and photographer is to exist in photographs...don’t be the one that’s behind the camera all the time!

capturing moments!

Make sure your children get to see you in their photos - remember they love you know matter how you look or feel.

Creating a beautiful space for your little one is such an exciting experience. A nursery or children’s room is one room where we can let our creative juices run wild and have fun! When creating spaces for children it is important to have a functional, liveable room that captures your hopes and dreams and most importantly your or your little ones personality. A beautiful room doesn’t have to cost the earth, it is all about planning the space and managing colours and layout. Design Online by LUSH Stylists is an online interior design service whereby you can get a room makeover from as little as $79! You get an interior designers touch without having to spend a fortune. They have simple packages whereby you get an overall concept, room layout, a detailed visual product recommendation and how much each item costs. You name the budget and they make it work – WOW so easy!! Some favourite ideas from LUSH Stylists from this issue are: * instead of strong patterns or colours on walls try doing something fun with the ceiling space * Keeping the base of the room (everything that doesn’t move) neutral is a fantastic idea. Then add colour through detail – this will allow you to change the look and feel without having to spend a fortune on re-painting.

nellie tier! The story of Nellie Tier is only a few years old but the history of friendship and business partnership shared by its co-founders Annie Porter and Sara Sadd spans 30 years. The Nellie Tier part of their story began about five years ago when the hand cream Annie had been playing around with in her kitchen (for about two years) FINALLY WORKED! Not only did it work, it was fabulous, and it was clear that here was potential for another challenging and exciting business venture! Sara happily came on board and the duo began the formulation of their boutique range. The aim was to create face, body and bath products that were not prohibitively expensive, that were natural, safe, fresh and effective, and had a strong focus on luxurious texture and wonderful perfumes. They designed the range using as a base, the best of natural ingredients, botanical extracts and pure essential oils available.

I experienced the amazing benefits of HypnoBirthing® first hand when I gave birth to my son Oliver. This has driven my passion to help other women to believe and trust in themselves and their natural ability to give birth safely and easily. I absolutely love sharing HypnoBirthing® with parents, supporting them on their journey out of fear and into confidence.

HypnoBirthing® is a very simple program of self-hypnosis and education, where women learn to release emotions tied to fear-based stories and misinformation, and they are helped to see birth as a normal and natural process. They learn to trust that their bodies know how to bring their babies into the world in the calm and gentle way that nature intended.

“I think that this course is the best thing we could have done to prepare for our first baby. The relaxation exercises are very easy and effective; they made a world of difference during the birth. We both feel that we have learnt positive skills for life! Thank you.” Bryce – Auckand

Don't stress about getting your baby into a routine immediately

A small mirror is the best first toy ever

Weleda Cham Rad is the great for windy / colicky babies

Have a pump bottle next to the toilet for after a natural delivery

Take time out each day for a shower by yourself

If you're breastfeeding, have some healthy, but easy to eat snacks with lots of

protein beside you

Always have a drink handy if you are breastfeeding

Sleep when baby sleeps...You're going to need it!

Always make sure you properly burp/wind your baby after feeding!!! Sharlene Poole Baby Whisperer has a no fail winding technique! Lay baby flat across

your knees supporting head with one hand and massaging tummy gently with the other hand. Sit baby up and it generally just comes straight out! If not then

pat on back

Newborn nappies with the sides cut off make better and cheaper maternity pads.

Get one of those little battery push lights from The Warehouse or $2 shops. They're great for night feeds as they're not too bright

Make sure when you have baby that you do get taught how to breast feed (keep asking every feed if you need till you feel comfortable) and get hubby to learn as

well they can be really helpful in seeing if the baby is latched properly

little gems for new mums!

Page 36: Mini Me Magazine - Issue 001

1 . Guzzle a Bott le of Water .

Mild dehydration can affect your body even before you know you’re thirsty, and may leave you with headaches, fatigue, and lack of energy.

2. Take a Bath or Shower.

There’s nothing like taking all your clothes off and taking a bath or shower in the middle of the day to make you feel like a totally new person.

3. Get Moving.

Studies have found regular exercise is better than a nap for boosting your energy levels.

4. Don’t Skip Breakfast!

You’re vigilant about making sure your kids get a healthy breakfast before they head out the door. But what about you?

5. Keep Your Blood Sugar Steady.

Eat regular small snacks to keep on an even keel - like trail mix, peanut butter crackers, protein bars, and small containers of veggies and hummus.

6. Change Your Clothes.

No, really. If you’re sitting around in baggy sweats or your pajamas, it can actually make you feel more tired and rundown.

Cats are amazing at twitching and turning their ears in all kinds of directions. Here's why: Cats have 32 muscles working each ear. Humans only have six.

The tentacles of the giant Arctic jellyfish can grow to 120 feet - that's as long as 100 small cars lined up bumper to bumper!

A lobster's blood isn't red like ours. It's light blue. (It has copper in it, not iron. Iron makes blood red)

Sharks don't have any bones. They have softer, more bendable stuff called cartilage.

What's inside a camel's hump? Most people think water, but they're wrong. It's fat. This gives camels energy if they run out of food.

There are more chickens in the world than any other kind of bird.

2 cups rolled oats,

1/2 cup golden syrup

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 teaspoons cocoa powder

1/4 cup smooth or crunch peanut butter

2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat oven to 170°C and line a baking tray with baking paper. Place the peanut butter, golden syrup, cinnamon, cocoa powder and vanilla into a small saucepan and heat over a medium heat until melted and smooth.

Place the oats into a large bowl and once the peanut butter mixture is ready, pour over the rolled oats and mix until all the oats are coated. Pour oats into the prepared baking tray and bake for around 10-15 minutes or until golden brown – make sure you keep an eye on it as it can burn easily. 125g butter, softened

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1/4 cup condensed milk

2 tablespoons vanilla essence

1 3/4 cups self-raising flour

1/2 cup of each type of chocolate, roughly chopped (dark, milk, white)

Preheat oven to 160°C In a large bowl, cream together butter and both sugars until light and fluffy, then add eggs and vanilla until combined before adding the condensed milk. Gradually add flour and then slowly mix in all the chocolate chips. Spoon teaspoon sizes amounts of cookie dough onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake for around 8-10 min, or until the edges start to brown. Allow to cool on a baking tray, before putting into a mason jar topped with fabric and rope if you wish. x

1 cup white sugar

1 tablespoon lemon zest

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

8 egg yolks – save the egg whites for another use, like meringue kisses!

1/4 teaspoon salt 140g unsalted butter, cut into cubes

1 cup raspberries

In a medium saucepan, off heat, whisk together sugar, zest and egg yolks. Then whisk in lemon juice and salt. Add the butter and heat saucepan over a medium/high heat. Continue whisking constantly, until butter has melted and mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, and small bubbles form around the edge of the pan. Do not boil. Remove the pan from heat and continuing to whisk for a little longer, the longer that you whisk while off heat the silkier the curd will be. In a blender, puree the raspberries and gently fold into the cooled curd – you can strain the raspberries through a sieve to remove any seeds if you want. Place the raspberry curd into a sterilized jar and keep in the fridge for up to one month. x
