Please pray for the church body as we elect delegates to represent the Western North Carolina Conference at the General Conference in 2020. Conference is not simply a time of meetings, but it is a time to reflect on the past year, get reacquainted with old friends and to meet new friends. Then on Sunday June 23, we worship and our Bishop will “set” appointments for the year. Our youth will be leaving on Sunday June 23 rd for their mission trip. Please keep all of them in prayer for safe travel and that they will receive a blessing as well as be a blessing. We will be posting a list of those who will be going so that you can pray for them during this week. Then on June 30 th we will be recognizing our Confirmands. I am excited that we have (14) who are taking the classes, which is very exciting. This will be a community celebration. But their faith journey does not end at the completion of these classes. As you can see there is a lot happening in our community, and we need your help to continue to grow. I want to thank you for welcoming Beth and I into your community and we look forward to serving God and you next year. Blessings, Rev. Eric Lane

Pastor's Corner ~ Rev. Eric Lane

“All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their

possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as

they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food

with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And

day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.” Acts 2:44-47

(NRSV)

I chose the passage of scripture because I truly believe that we are now on the path of

growth for the kingdom of God. Laying aside our differences, and putting Christ first will

lead to growth for the kingdom of God. We still have many hurdles to get over, mountains

to climb, and rivers to cross, but if we keep our focus on the most important thing, loving

God and loving neighbor, then there is no hurdle too high, no mountain too steep and no

river to deep that we cannot overcome.

Every time I drive by Waxhaw, I see those apartments going up and I get excited, new

families are coming and how exciting to think that they just may be looking for a Christian

community to be a part of. So, as you pass say a little prayer, asking that God will guide us

in a way that we will reach new families.

On another note. I cannot believe that the year is almost ½ over. Just where did the time go?

It seems like it was just yesterday that school started and now it is graduation.

June the 2nd will be our graduation Sunday. We will recognize those who have graduated

from high school and from other institutions. We are proud of our graduates and following

the service at 9:45, we will have a church wide picnic. The quilters, have worked hard on

quilts to give to the high school graduates. I hope that you will come out and celebrate this

event and stay for lunch.

On June 19th, I will be traveling to Lake Junaluska, along with John Blair, as we begin our

time of conferencing. Please pray for the church body as we elect delegates to represent the

Western North Carolina Conference at the General Conference in 2020. Conference is not

simply a time of meetings, but it is a time to reflect on the past year, get reacquainted with

old friends and to meet new friends. Then on Sunday June 23, we worship and our Bishop

will “set” appointments for the year.

Our youth will be leaving on Sunday June 23rd for their mission trip. Please keep all of them

in prayer for safe travel and that they will receive a blessing as well as be a blessing. We

will be posting a list of those who will be going so that you can pray for them during this

week.

Then on June 30th we will be recognizing our Confirmands. I am excited that we have (14)

who are taking the classes, which is very exciting. This will be a community celebration.

But their faith journey does not end at the completion of these classes.

As you can see there is a lot happening in our community, and we need your help to

continue to grow. I want to thank you for welcoming Beth and I into your community and

we look forward to serving God and you next year.

Blessings,

Rev. Eric Lane

Youth Flamingo Fundraiser Flocking is Back....It's that time of year again, no yard is safe... The youth of Mineral Springs will be flocking yards for 12 weeks this summer. Here is how it works, anyone may purchase "Flocking Insurance" for a small one-time donation of $25.00, and this will guarantee that your yard does not get flocked this season. However, if you would like to make a donation to the youth, you may send the flock of flamingoes to anyone in the churches yard. If you get flocked, just call Daniel Parker, 336-575-0272. You can send them to someone else for a donation, or we can just simply come pick them up for you.

The youth will be hosting a Free Car Wash here at the Church on Saturday June 15th weather permitting, from 9am - 2pm.

Fixing It For Christ

will be held June 19-22. Many volunteers are needed

in all areas. The evening meal will be served in our

Family Life Center. I would challenge everyone to

come out each evening and show some Mineral

Springs hospitality to those coming to our campus!

It will be a great opportunity to be a lighthouse in our

community as we welcome around 250 volunteers

each evening!

I encourage those who are not familiar with this

mission to visit their website at

www.fixingitforchrist.com to see how they are

changing the lives of those in our community.

Signups for worksite volunteers and kitchen/food

needs will be available in the Breezeway and

Family Life Center beginning May 26th!

Questions? Contact Drew Walker or Cara Steele.

Herman and Linda Hodges

Sarah Hodges and William Hodges.

Welcome to the MSUMC family!

Vic and Val Hess

Vic and Val were members of MSUMC for 10 years.

Both were missionaries, they worked for Wycliff Bible

Translators and Jaars. Val was born and raised in

Australia where her father was a pastor. Vic’s folks

were missionaries and he was born in the Philippines.

Upon leaving the mission field Val worked in Finance

and HR for Wycliff. Vic was a pilot most of his 40+

years at Jaars and when he left the mission field he

managed the transportation arm there until his recent

retirement.

For 20 years they were assigned to Columbia in South

America. They met and married there and had 3

children. All are grown now, two are married with

children. Their last field assignment as missionaries was

for 7 years in Cameroon.

While in the USA they lived in their beautiful log home

in Waxhaw that Vic built with his own hands, cutting

trees on their property to make the logs. Their children

and grand Children live in Berea, KY.

Vic and Val have sold their home here, bought a home

in Berea where they now reside.

They were faithful members of MSUMC, attended the

Traditional service at 8:30 and were part of the Home

Improvement Sunday School Class. Val served on both

Missions and Finance Committees. An excellent

speaker, Val was asked by our pastor to speak in his

absence at all three services.

Two quick stories: When Val was leaving Australia to

go to South America to train to be a missionary in

Columbia South America, she booked a trip on a rather

inexpensive ship. In the middle of the ocean it caught

fire and as a result, Val found herself completing her

journey on a luxury cruise ship in first class.

The story goes on and on and while terrible then her

telling of the tale is hilarious.

During WWII Vic’s family was captured by the

Japanese in the Philippines. The day they were going to

be executed the Americans arrived and rescued them.

Vic’s sister wrote a book about this experience.

Gayla and I had the privilege of being in the Bible study

that Vic facilitated. Both Vic and Val are students of the

Word and faithful followers of Jesus Christ. It is a

blessing to know them.
