“Connor Whitman where are we?” “Well I’m afraid I don’t rightly know the answer to that question Madeline. It seems like we are in the New Territory, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen roads that look like

that before.”

“Well now that is the most peculiar looking carriage I’ve ever seen. Perhaps I ought to go out and see if I can’t gather some clues as to what sorta place we’ve done wound

up in.”

“Good day to ya ma’am. Name is Connor Whitman and my wife Maddie and I are new to these here parts. You been here a spell by any chance?”

“Oh my yes dearie. Welcome to Mineral Park….I don’t know if you have magic where you come from, but this land is full of it. I was summoned by the great forces of nature ages ago. I’d be happy to help

you get settled.

“I’m much obliged to you Miss Gladys.”

“This here summoning a person through the forces sounds down right un-natural to me. I don’t think Madeline and I’ll be getting mixed up with that sort of sorcery.”

“Looks like them stories about the New Territory bein filled with gold were true though. Course they didn’t say nothin about the houses already bein built, but Maddie and I

can’t complain about that.”

Especially with a little one on the way now. I don’t think Maddie’s too thrilled about them trousers she’s been having to wear though.

Miss Gladys was able to give me directions to the local watering hole. It had some clothes for sale, but no dresses I think Maddie would appreciate. I do wonder who lives

in that old majestic castle. Quite a mysterious place this Mineral Park.

The local hole does have a nice card table, and piano. Not that Maddie’d give a dime and half for that, but I still had a pleasant afternoon.

Gladys suggested I could make extra money by painting pictures. I crafted an easel out of some lumber and set to it. Never hurts to learn new hobbies. I do wonder who

Miss Gladys is selling this stuff too. I mean I’ve seen people, but other than that castle and the tavern there ain’t no buildings anywhere in this town.

We had quite the scare the other night! Lightening went and set fire to the tree beside the cabin. Madeline was worried something awful the logs would catch fire next. The

rain seems to have put it out fore any real tragedy befell us.

Blessed thing too. I’d hate to try to figure out what to do with a youngun and no roof. We welcomed our little lass Eudora to the house the following evening.

Miss Gladys found me a proper employment. I’ve got the strangest garb to wear though…And the carriage they have me ridin in. Madeline wasn’t too keen at all about

me getting in that thing. It was an experience I won’t soon forget, but I made home safe and sound.

Madeline visited the tavern with me and was NOT pleased at all this place ain’t got no proper general store, or dress maker. I told her she could open up one and that I’d ask

Gladys about setting up something. That got her excited! Course now somehow I got to come up with some sort of

contraption for her to do her spinning on.

Eudora shot up before either of us was quite ready for it. Setting up that store is taking a lot of time. But when you’re the only one buldin it what can you expect?

Gladys gave us some clothes for her, and while Madeline still don’t like the style of these locals she at least admits it is a dress. I sort of like the little scarf myself. I did

manage to make her a little toy horse to play with. She adores it. Makes a man proud he can make his little lady happy.

Now back to work on that there store for Madeline. Gotta keep all my women folk happy.
