1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Thom claims were staked on the basis of gold associated with anomalous quantities of arsenic in heavy mineral and silt samples taken from stream sediments. Work described in this report consisted of prospecting and preliminary rock sampling directed at locating the source of gold found in both the heavy mineral concentrates and subsequent silt samples.

HISTORY AND PREVIOUS WORK

The ground presently covered by the west half of the Thom claim has been explored and tested for copper. Supertest Investments and Petroleum Ltd. carried out geological mapping, soil geochemistry, I.P. and magnetometer surveys and diamond drilling from 1969 to 1973. Their work is covered in Assessment Reports 2476, 2772, 2773, 3506 and 3743. In 1974 BP Minerals took the property over and followed with an I.P. survey, detailed geologic mapping and percussion drilling (Assessment Reports 5730 and 6107). Interest was directed toward copper mineralization in felsic intrusives and associated breccias. In 1979 Bethleham Copper Corporation explored the same area for base metals, principally copper.

WORK PERFORMED IN 1983

Prospectinq and Rock Samplinq

D.J. Coffin, J.M. Hislop, S.J. Graham and D. Moraal spent 7 man days prospecting and rock sampling the Thom claims. 35 samples were collected and analysed for gold and silver by Bondar-Clegg and Company. Locations are plotted on Figure 3.

1 5.2 Heavy Mineral and Silt Sampling

Heavy mineral samples and a small number of follow-up silt samples were collected from streams crossing the claim block. This sampling is not being filed as assessment work and thus neither results nor expenditures are included in this report.

1 5.3 Laboratory Methods

Rock samples were sent to Bondar-Clegg and Company where they were crushed and pulverized to -100 mesh. An aqua-regia digestion (a 1:3 ratio of nitric and hydrochloric acid) followed by an atomic absorption determination were used to analyse gold and silver content.

GEOLOGY

The Thom claim area was mapped by A.R. Findlay of B.P. Minerals in 1974 (Assessment Report 5730). From his report the region is underlain by Upper Triassic Nicola volcanics and which are in contact with the Upper Triassic Guichon batholith. Large areas of Tertiary Kamloops Group volcanics cap the Triassic rocks. On the property the Nicola volcanics, andesitic and basaltic flows and tuffs, have been intruded by a hornblende diorite which is believed to be part of the Guichon intrusive. A body of quartz syenite - quartz monzonite and associated intrusive breccia and a second small quartz porphyry pluton have intruded the hornblende diorite. The age of the quartz syenite/quartz monzonite/intrusive breccia package is unknown but the intrusive is believed to be a late stage event of the diorite intrusion. The quartz porphyry pluton is seen veining the hornblende diorite and is believed to be Mesozoic or Tertiary in age.

Cockfield (1948) and Duffel (1952) have mapped the area on a regional scale. They include a Cretaceous or Tertiary age package of conglomerate, sandstone and shale in the area of the Thom claim. This unit was not mentioned by Findlay but a boulder conglomerate unit was found by the prospectors as described in section 7.0.

Page 7

RESULTS

Prospecting and Rock Samplinq (Figure 2 )

A total of three days (seven man days) were spent prospecting and rock sampling on Thom I during September and November 1983. Rock types found on the claims are listed:

i) Intrusive, fine grained, acidic, commonly altered, weak silicification, quartz veining, pyrite in fractures and veins with minor hematite and malachite, rusty weathering.

ii) Boulder Conglomerate, small silicified zones, rusty weathering, weak to no alteration.

iii) Andesitic Tuff and Basalt, intercalated, no alteration noted.

September 16 and 17th, 1983: D.J. Coffin and J.M. Hislop prospected an area east of an anomaly found silt sampling Rattlesnake Creek. Several small areas of siliceous conglomerates were found but none were considered large enough to warrant extension of the staking in this direction. No intrusive outcroppings were found.

November, 1983 D.J. Coffin, S. Graham and D. Moraal sampled the intrusive outcrops at the northern end of Rattlesnake Creek. 35 rock grab samples were taken. Sampling was restricted to the northern half of the intrusive. A second day sampling the southern half of the intrusive along its contact with the conglomerate was not completed and should take priority for further work.

D. Coffin and S. Graham spent one day prospecting areas outside the claim block with the view to extending claim boundaries if needed. No intrusive, and no area of major interest in the conglomerate unit was found south of the claim. The eastern half of the Thom I claim still requires detailed prospecting.
