Remote Mine Hunting System (RMS) Independent Review Team (IRT) Implementation Plan
• Based on TECHEVAL performance, LCS MCM MP IOC was delayed and an RMS IRT established. Current way ahead includes: – Near-term employment of MCM MP to gain Fleet
experience. – Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS) and
Airborne Mine Neutralization System (AMNS) will achieve Initial Operational Capability (IOC) 1QFY17.
– Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle (CUSV) will be the tow vehicle for the mine hunting sonar.
– RMMV will be used to continue AN/AQS-20 test, data collection, and support user evaluation.

Multiple Unmanned Systems for MCM Single Sortie Detect-To-Engage
Unmanned Surface Vehicle Vision
• The Office of Naval Research is leading a Single Sortie Detect-To-Engage (SS-DTE) project to greatly reduce MCM timelines
• PMS 406 and PMS 495 will transition technologies from the SS-DTE project to enable a single pass MCM capability
• A technology transition agreement has been signed enabling the ability to selectively transition technologies from ONR to the various programs of record
11/17/16 Distribution Statement A: Approved for Public Release; Distribution Unlimited. 25
LCS Mission Modules Technology Interest Area
• Autonomy – In the absence of communications, the ability to stay on mission or
recover to a safe point and seamlessly integrate with a common communications architecture
– Obstacle Avoidance, both surface and submerged • Efficient Off-board Vehicle Management
– Ability to coordinate and monitor multiple off-board systems with minimal manning
– Common control architecture/systems • Over the horizon high bandwidth vehicle/sensor data transfer • Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Specific
– Detect to ID in single pass; low cost ID and neutralization – Automated Target Recognition. Rejection of false (non-mine) sonar
calls – Highly accurate navigation (LAT/LONG/Depth)
• Ability to place towed/fixed sensors to support reacquisition of underwater targets
