It is hard to believe that another year has passed! Where did the time go? The end of any year is a natural time for us to pause, remember what God has done to build His Kingdom here, and give Him all the glory. It is truly a good time to be at Millington Baptist Church! God’s Spirit continues to change lives, challenges us with the truth of Gospel, and empowers us to engage in mission. Even last month, we witnessed baptisms and welcomed new church members. Moreover, some are stepping up to lead ministries and invite their neighbors to attend worship services and events.

We created exciting new events while realigning existing ministries within our vision to be a multi-generational church whose members connect in authentic community and grow into who God has called us to be for the purpose of living out His mission to each other and the world. As a multi-generational church, we hosted events for all ages such as, Summer Connections, Fall Kickoff, Cookies for a Cause, and the Carol Sing and Share.

Strategically, we sought to attract more young families with new events like the Easter Egg Hunt and Trunk or Treat. We encouraged our teens with a beach weekend, fall retreat, and separate winter retreats for middle and high school students. Additionally, our students had a unique opportunity to feed the homeless, share their faith, as well as serve the poor and disenfranchised during the Washington D.C. Summer Mission Trip.

Coming together in genuine community enables us to better care for each other and grow together. We are particularly excited to have introduced small groups to minister to Basking Ridge, Dunellen, Bernardsville, and Bridgewater. These groups have three specific purposes: fellowship, scripture, and prayer bringing about individual spiritual growth and authentic relationships. We also saw the revitalization of our Care Leadership Team who learn the needs of our church family and provide compassionate assistance.

As you read through the rest of this annual report, remember the information on each page represents real ministry for and by real people. Be encouraged! Ask God to show you how He wants to use you as a vital part of the Millington Baptist Church family this coming year.

We are looking forward to an even better and brighter 2016-17!

For His Glory,Pastors Bob Erbig and Chad Boudreaux

You crown the Year with Your goodness…

The past year has been one of regeneration, healing & hope for MBC. At our Annual Business meeting in March 2015 the Catalyst Team laid out the roadmap for MBC’s future over the next 24 – 36 months.

Our vision going forward is: To be a multi-generational church, where we can connect in authentic community, as we grow and develop into who God has called us to be, for the purpose of living out His mission to each other and the world.

In order to achieve the above we have committed to nine strategies:1. Attract Young Families2. Attract and Embrace Young Adults3. Promote Inter-Generational Relationships4. Create Sunday Morning Welcome and

Assimilation Teams5. Re-Institute the Care Team6. Expand our Small Group Ministry7. Develop and Launch a Church-Wide

Spiritual Assessment Survey8. Develop and Launch New Sunday School

Classes to Address Spiritual Gaps9. Launch a Church-Wide Campaign to Focus

on Service and Evangelism

We are pleased to have made significant strides during 2015:• The formation of our Leadership

Council, which includes a combination of the Board of Elders and the Ministry Leadership Team (MLT), in order to promote more harmonious and deeper relation-ships among our church leaders

• The completion of phase one of renovations to the second floor of the Christian Education Building creating a more kid friendly Sunday School environment

• The successful return of Summer Connections for 10 weeks (and not a drop of rain!) where the MBC church family was able to re-connect

• An awesome preaching rotation thanks to Pastor Bob, Pastor Pendell, Ed Williams and Jack Kraus providing members and guests with solid Biblical teaching

• The re-formation of the Care Team, which is once again addressing the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of our congregation

• A smooth transition of the LFLC Director position from Peggy Clabough, who had served the ministry for over 12 years, to Cindy Scobee, along with the receipt of national accreditation from the Association of Christian Schools International

• We completed a Spiritual Life Assessment Survey with over 120 congregants participating where we evaluated six spiritual markers: Worshipping, Praying, Learning, Living in Community, Serving and Sharing

• We experienced increased attendance and financial giving as MBC shows tangible signs of renewed spiritual health

Looking forward to 2016, we:• Have already had 3 baptisms and

added 11 new members

• Commissioned a Constitution Update Team who will be proposing revisions on Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct, Membership Status & Expectations and creating language for a Pastoral Leadership Team approach

• Look forward to recognizing and celebrating Pastor Bob and Pastor Chad as Pastoral Leadership Team members

• Will be continuing renovations of the CE Building and Sanctuary to create a more visitor friendly atmosphere

• Are adding new Christian Education classes in order to better educate our members and guests

• Have and will expand our Small Group ministry to more effectively create authentic community

• Plan on hiring a Director of Youth Ministries so we can expand our Jr & Sr High Ministries, and as free Pastor Bob to take on more pastoral duties and responsibilities

There is no doubt God is at work at MBC and we couldn’t be more excited about what He has in store for us in the days to come. It’s been a true privilege to serve as your Board of Elders.

Elder Nominating CommitteeElder Search & Election This year’s nominating committee members are Jim Flood, Renate Garms, Aimee Huber, and Augie Lavornia. Lee Barnes served as liaison between the committee and the Board of Elders. This same committee was formed last year. Our Elder candidates include three men who have faithfully served out their current terms. The team is presenting three nominees for re-election to the Board of Elders to serve an additional three-year term. Please pray for these men and their families as we consider them for this critical leadership position.

The candidates are:Paul AchenbachPaul is a native of Bernards Township. He and his wife, Esther, have lived in Basking Ridge since 2001. Married for 17 years, they have 5 children ranging in age from 5 to 16. Paul received his B.S. from Rutgers University and currently works for Endurance Specialty Holdings in Westchester County, NY. Growing up in a Christian home, Paul trusted in Christ as Savior and Lord from an early age. His walk as a disciple of Christ has been sustained by God’s grace and faithfulness. Paul joined the MBC family as a member in 2010, and has had the privilege of serving as an Elder since 2013.

Lee Barnes Lee Barnes started attending MBC in 1955 and two years later gave his heart to Jesus in Ruth Heckels’ Sunday School Class. Growing up in the church did not shield Lee from life’s hardships. In 1986, Lee experienced some really rough times, but true to His promise, God used them to break up some hard ground in his heart. He and his wife, Linda, have a close family that includes the blessing of a combined 6 children and 7 grandchildren. Lee has owned and operated his own residential construction company for the past 40 years. One of his primary passions will always be kids’ Sunday School. Lee has taught 5th & 6th grade boys alongside Mark Melillo for over 20 years.

Darren HernandezDarren became a member of MBC in 1992 and has served in various leadership roles, including Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Co-Chairman of two church-wide Capital Stewardship Campaigns and the Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee. Since 1995 he has served on the Board of Elders for 16 years cumulatively, most of the time as church Treasurer, and is currently Elder Chairman. He is the President & Chief Operating Officer of a privately held family owned air filter manufacturing company and lives in Basking Ridge. He has been married to his wife Sharon for 32 years and they have three children; Alec (23), Sam (20) and Morgan (18).

Family Life & Mission“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-7, ESV)

When I was in seminary studying Hebrew, my professor gave me tremendous insight into these words from Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy 6:4 was something called The Shema. The Shema was known by every Hebrew and repeated day after day. It was something passed down from generation to generation as stories were told of God’s rescue from Egypt by his power and grace. It can be said that this was the great commission of the OT and a commandment to every member of Israel: Tell your children who God is and how to love him. By doing this he will be known among the nations!

Over the last year I have seen my role at MBC shift from a singular focus on teen ministry, to a broader range of responsibility encompassing all family ministries and mission efforts, locally and globally. For this reason, The Shema resonates with me: Not only are we trying to impress the truths of who God is upon the hearts of the next generation, but we want to see the light of the Gospel go forth from Basking Ridge to the ends of the earth. It is now my role to help provide vision, oversight, and enthusiasm for our ministries which are accomplishing this goal.

Over the last year there has been much to be excited about. Our family ministries (kids and teens) continue to minister effectively as they seek to pass on the faith to our children. Jen Roth and Kamilla Dening have provided wonderful leadership for kids and middle school. We have also been blessed with an amazing team of adult leaders who invest in the lives of those coming after us, from children to emerging adults. While we are currently undergoing a transition in kid’s ministry, I have every confidence that God will bring the right people to fill the role.

Our women’s ministry is being revitalized with a strong leadership team under the guidance of Kim Radha. Men’s ministry is led by Bob Mueller and his team, and the Missions team, led by Jim Romaine, supports World Partners in many countries around the world. As we move into the new year we look to expand our efforts both locally and globally. Our small groups ministry has been revitalized, helping many to connect and receive encouragement in the faith. We all have been blessed by a wonderful team of gifted preachers who bring God’s word every week. Whether we are studying the Markers of the Christian faith, the book of 1 Peter, or looking at our values as a church, the Gospel is being proclaimed.

In the coming year we will strengthen all our ministries by empowering our team of leaders, building relationships, and strategically focusing on ways to reach out and serve. We will be participating in Charter Day again, Summer Adventure is right around the corner, we are sending a team to Senegal in April, and our teens are going to serve in Chicago in August. Our Adult Education ministry is strong and we will add more classes this year.

Looking over the last year and looking forward to the next, I am excited about my MBC family. The Hebrew culture was very family oriented, and was the focus when Deuteronomy was written. Our church is a family, and I am excited that people are genuinely seeking to know and love our God, and make Him known to a world that is in the darkness. My prayer over the next year is that we continue to think of new and creative ways to pass the faith to the next generation, and that all of MBC allow the amazing and immeasurable truth of the Gospel to penetrate their hearts deeply.

All Glory to God, Pastor Bob Erbig

Communication & Outreach2015 was a significant year in MBC’s history as we took the time to look back to what makes our church unique and forward toward to direction the Lord is leading us. Communications and Outreach have become essential to the new strategic plan that is the result of the assessment done by the Catalyst Team. Due to the interdependency of communications and outreach, these two roles have been consolidated under the Director of Communications and Outreach, Marc D’Agusto.

Marc joined MBC this summer and hit the ground running, standardizing policies and streamlining procedures all while developing new campaigns to communicate new initiatives to our church family and expand the church’s reach to our community. The church has become familiar with his work through the new branding of many of our ministries, service slides, high quality design work on the website, postcards and fliers for many events such as:

While we continue to use traditional channels of communications such as Prayer & Praise, Enews, weekly bulletins, and in-service presentations, the team has opened new channels of communications such as:

[email protected],

[email protected]

& [email protected]

which allow people to receive quick response to their concerns and

questions by directing their concerns to the appropriate person rather than to a mass email box. We have also spent significant time designing a user-friendly online experience. By providing

opportunities for people to register for events and childcare, to volunteering to care for each other via our Care Giver Sign-up form. Communications has also been at the forefront of the Realm initia-tive, which will provide all members and regular attenders access to the most current church information, including member contact information, wherever they are with just a few keystrokes.

We are excited to be unveiling the MBC vision book, Let Hope In, which outlines the vision and direction of our church for guests and new attendees. With the new year we will be offering new outreach events in addition to the Easter Egg Hunt, Charter Day, Trunk or Treat, and Christmas Carol Sing and Share. Events such as the PiYo exercise class for women and Underground Sessions will allow us to reach out to the community outside of the MBC campus.

2016 promises to be an exciting one in Communications and Outreach as we are looking forward to fanning the “inextinguishable flicker God ignites in our souls to keep us believing in the prevailing power of His light even when we are surrounded by utter darkness.” (Lee Strobel)

10:30am Service This worship service is the hub of our Sunday morning experience, designed to be relevant, relaxed and reverent. We want to allow for worship freedom by combining Scripture, prayer, creative elements, and lyrically-rich music. The dynamic preaching rotation brings variety, yet consistency as we hear the gifts of Bob Erbig, Jack Kraus, Peter Pendell, and Ed Williams.

Summer ConnectionsWe followed the Summer 10 @ 10am worship services with delicious catered lunches! We studied selected Psalms then met to break bread in the Youth and Family Ministry Building and Yard. Beautiful weather abounded, while the fellowship and food were maqnifique! Special thanks, to Dawn Boudreaux, Ricardo Mendes, and Paolo’s Catering for organizing the fine feasts.

Holiday ServicesDrew Huber’s sermon on Maundy Thursday helped us focus on the sobering elements that dark night. Pastor Bob Erbig helped a

packed house envision the Miracle of Easter. For Thanks-giving Eve, guest speaker, Pastor

Dave Hentschel, preached new life into the community service. The Sundays of Advent asked relevant questions and led us to Rethink Christmas, giving a fresh perspective on Christmas and the redemptive story of the miraculous birth of Christ.

Worship TeamAs a worship team with multi-talented musicians and technicians we find great reward in seeing and hearing church people worship with fervor and abandon. Musically, the Team works to produce the best quality possible, while keeping the gospel message at the center of all we do. I find reward in coaching talented servants who want to use their skills for the Kingdom.

Audio, Projection & Lighting Teams Ron Niessen, Steve Tosi and Brenda Fleisher led our A/V/L teams. They understand the importance of helping us clearly see and hear the Gospel message in song and sermon. YOU can be a part of this integral team: merge your passion for art and tech!

HisKidsWe welcomed back Keri and Kathy Dolbier as they led the semester-long dramatic and musical intensive, The Great Christmas Giveaway! Our Christmas season started with their two great performances. Dave Midthassel and Frank Ferrera again volunteered with design and construction of the sets.

Music Camp 2015The leadership of Lenore Tosi, Mikel Waldon, Robin Youtkus and Kathy Dolbier proved to be the right combo as we ministered to over 60 kids in the creative summer musical, The Pirates of the I-Don’t-Caribbean! We ended the week with an exciting performance. We are grateful, for Frank Ferrera and Dave Midthassel who designed and built the great sets.

Underground SessionsWe designed an all-church experimental gathering inviting truth seekers to engage in open dialogue where cultural and Christian worldviews intersect. The evening sessions combined great family-style dining, lyrically astute songs, cultural hot-topics, panel experts with Q&A, and a pastoral missional exhortation. The Teen Room gives the evening an atmospheric vibe.

Senior Adult Potluck LuncheonsFrom October through May, MBC opens the Fellowship Hall to area seniors to gather, dine and connect with friends.Curbing the ministry to eight monthly lunch meetings helped us wisely use our energies. Special thanks, to Verna O’Neil for contracting the monthly programming and to the Leadership Team of Barbara Zellman, Larry Ziemba, Rosalie Hemmingway, Terry Pacetti, and Brenda Ayres for catering set up and clean up.

MBC TeensDeveloping annual reports offers time to reflect on God’s sovereignty and providence over the last year. As I am humbled by the grace of God here at MBC, specifically among our teens. Students are engaging in ministry with other students, growing in their faith both in knowledge and mission-mindedness. Attendance continues to hold strong at all our activities. I love what he is consistently doing in the lives of our teenagers. Our mission remains unchanged: “To make Gospel-centered teenage disciples who are being re-made in the image of Jesus Christ.” We had three key goals this year: (1) Connect every student with a peer and an adult leader (2) Connect every student with Jesus (3) Create compelling environments (Both large and small groups) where students experience joy! Let me share with you some strategic activities to accomplish this goal…

Highlights from 2015-2016Retreats: We continue to be convinced that retreats are integral to our ministry. We take students away from the noise of their daily worlds and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to their hearts. We have three consistent activities: (1) Our Fall Retreat is a 4th-12th grade weekend with 40+ people in attendance. Our theme was “Vanity.” (2) Our Winter Retreat was split between middle and high school to allow for more age-specific interaction. Middle School attended Camp Orchard Hill on February 19-21 and High School went to Tuscarora on February 26-28. (3) We will again run a High School Beach Weekend at the end of June. Overall, 50+ students have attended our retreats over the last year and were challenged with the Gospel.

Mission Trips: This past summer we took a group of 28 to Washington DC, with a mission organization called the Center for Student Missions (CSM). Our students were challenged and grew in their faith. They served at soup kitchens, homeless shelters, ran Bible camps, passed out food to the homeless, and took part in the Urban Plunge (An opportunity to meet with and pray for people on the street)! It was an awesome trip and we plan to partner again with CSM this summer in Chicago.

Outreach and Discipleship: In our weekly environments students continue to be challenged by the Gospel and learn God’s word. We have two weekly activities: (1) “Rush Hour,” which meets Sunday mornings at 9:00am, is a mixture of large group teaching and small group discussion. 30-40 students attend regularly. (2) “The Break” meets mid-week on Wednesdays. While 7th-12th grade students come, we separate them for the evening activities. Excitingly, we have seen students bring friends. (3) We also began a monthly program called Project 56, which served as an opportunity for high school students to lead our 5/6th graders. Overall, our weekly programs see 50+ students who are regularly challenged with the Gospel. We continue to partner with local churches such as Stonecrest Community, and serve with ministries like New City Kids (Jersey City) and the Relief Bus.

Leadership: One of our goals continues to be developing student and adult leaders. A number of high-school students are involved in planning, strategy and discipleship events and our numbers are continuing to grow. Johnny Graves again served as an intern with middle school and young adults. Several of us had the opportunity to attend the Orange Conference last April, which served as a catalyst for our vision this year. We are always looking for more leaders to help grow our ministry.

Every year we ask for your prayers: pray that God’s Spirit would be poured out upon our students, that the Gospel would be deeply rooted in their hearts, and that they would have a passion to share the Good News! We look forward to more lives changed this coming year. However, please join me in CELEBRATING what He has done over the past year!

2015 has been a year of refocus and prioritizing for MBC Kids. God has blessed the comradaderie of staff and lay leadership that have grown us as a unified family ministry. Our approach led us to evaluate who we are, how our ministry is different from other area churches, and why families should get involved. As we continue to develop our family ministry, our hope is to smoothly transition children from one age group to the next, to provide community, support and resources for parents, and to invest in those who lead and serve in the ministry.

We have identified our Vision: to provide effective teaching environments in which kids learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ and are equipped to live out their faith in everyday life.

Sunday mornings are the heart of our ministry. We strive to meet the needs of children by using a variety of creative teaching methods, including videos, skits, music, games, and crafts. It is our desire to make the lesson educational, fun and adventuresome at the same time. We continue to use the Gospel Project curriculum which takes children on a chronological journey through the Old and New Testaments. Engaging worship music, biblical teaching, group activities and committed volunteers continue to provide a powerful experience.

We found that Sunday morning overflow area for families during our summer Sundays and during special occasions have a great impact. Parents are able to participate in worship services with their children in a relaxed environment. For families with special needs children, this provids a solution to the question of how to teach kids about the larger church family. It’s a great reminder that Christ invited all to come, worship and learn about Him!

A few other family favorites included our first community wide Easter Egg Hunt and Trunk or Treat. We hid over 1,000 eggs and decorated more than 25 trunks to show our community how much we wanted to get to know them. Our church and volunteers were there to meet our neighbors. More than half of those who attended were introduced to us for the first time. We look forward to continuing these events and developing our relationships with the community.

Our most cherished activity continues to be Summer Adventure. This jam-packed week allowed us to discover ancient truths from Proverbs and apply them to our daily lives. We challenged the kids about the decisions they make and what they would base their choices on? Would they choose rewards that are immediate or eventual? Would they focus on others or themselves? As we camped with the wild animals at Mt Kilimanjaro, we learned how we can have ears that hear and do the Word of God, hearts that trust in the Lord, tongues that are tame, hands that get to work, and feet that walk with the wise! We continued to partner with the Langomac Village in Senegal and raised over $1,100 to begin the process of building a water line so those in the village can have daily access to fresh water.

We are looking forward to 2016 and are excited to continue the renovation of the education building. It has been a joy to work with the same people who completed the original renovation 30 years ago. After completing updates to our 2nd floor class-rooms and bathrooms, we anticipate creating a welcome/check in area as well as updating the lower level for preschool children.

We were so very thankful for all of God’s blessings during the past year! However, Jen Roth’s decision to transition out of her role of Children’s Director was bittersweet. Jen has been a valuable member of our team for five years. She will continue in a part time role, helping with special events for the next few months until a replacement is found. Kathy Dolbier and Lenore Tosi have stepped in as Interim Directors for Sunday morning programs. Please join us as we pray and seek the Lord’s direction for who will fill the Children’s Director role for the future. We are humbled by what God has done and excited how He will lead us in the future!

Little Footprints Learning Center (LFLC) exists as a ministry of Millington Baptist Church, to nurture a love of learning in the children; prepare them for success in their future academic lives; and build relationships with families in the community by sharing God’s truth and love. Additionally, the staff strives to provide a nurturing Christian preschool environment so that children will know God in a personal way, grow develop strongly in all areas (cognitively, spiritually, physi-cally, socially/emotionally) and be able to express this knowledge in their daily lives.

Highlights from 2015-16What an exciting year it has been at LFLC! I transitioned out of public school teaching to assume the role of Director this year. This position has been an answer to prayer, and I am reminded daily of God’s goodness in our lives. It is such a blessing to minister to the children and families in our community. The teachers and assistants at LFLC not only demonstrate excellence in teaching academics, but also a heart for the children to grow spiritually. Our enrollment is at capacity and we have been able to offer both Enrichment classes and several days of Lunch Bunch.

As in past years, 2015 has had its share of blessings. A highlight this year was Little Footprints being granted accreditation by the Association of Christian Schools International. Peggy Clabough, the former Director, along with the teachers and assistants, worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone. Accreditation demonstrates to parents that LFLC is a school which strives for excellence in education and ministry. The administration and staff will continue to make continuous improvements in the years ahead that will showcase LFLC as a premier preschool in the Basking Ridge area. We continue to have the privilege of ministering to 30+ families in our community by providing a Christ-centered education for the children and parenting support for the parents. In addition, we were able to

participate in mission projects including sending several boxes to children overseas through Operation Christmas Child and quarterly visits from our four-year-old class to the seniors at Fellowship Village.

We continue to minister to local families through our Sponsor a Child scholarship program. It is such a blessing to be able to reach out to families and minister in this capacity. I am excited to announce that giving to the scholarship program this year exceeded our expectations. We truly serve a God who blesses abundantly! I am so grateful to the congregation at Millington Baptist Church for your generous giving.

Looking Ahead to 2016-2017 One of the goals at Little Footprints is continuous improvement in meeting the needs of our families. We will be offering additional days next year for both our two-year-old and three-year- old classrooms. Enrollment continues to be robust, and we are taking steps to ensure that we continue to offer a quality program that ministers to the families in our area. We will be reviewing our curriculum to be certain we are effectively meeting the academic and spiritual needs of the children enrolled. Please pray for wisdom and guidance as we continue to serve the families in our area. Please also pray that as current and future children learn about Jesus, they would come to know Him as their Savior.

Blessings,

Cindy Scobee, LFLC Director

Highlights from 2015-16 2015 was a busy and dynamic year for the Women’s Ministry at Millington Baptist Church. We drove two buses down to Atlantic City, NJ for the Beth Moore Live conference in March and had about 25 members and friends join us. We hosted a Ladies Salad Night where we had mingling, games, and time to meet ladies who may have never met before. The ladies brought so many great salads! At the Salad Night Event, we introduced a Summer Secret Sisters program, where women were able to choose someone else to lift in prayer and encourage through notes and emails during the summer.

Fall started with a bang at the Fall Kick Off event where we had a powerful time of live music and worship. All of the studies and groups falling under the women’s ministry banner were introduced and highlighted, including the new Bible studies and the Knitting Group that meets twice a month. The knitting group meets the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, has made and donated a total of 100 hats to the Relief Bus and 33 prayer shawls. The Prayer Shawls were mainly given to members of MBC, or their families and friends; but 8 were given to Barbara’s Place, an addiction recovery home on the grounds of America’s Keswick in Whiting, NJ. A ‘Mom’s In Prayer’ group was coordinated here at MBC on Wednesday evenings where moms come together for an hour or two each week to pray for our children and schools. We ended the calendar year with the annual Cookies for a Cause event; we packed 934 Boxes of cookies to donate to the Market Street Mission and the Relief Bus.

Discipleship opportunities have abounded with the continuation of the Tuesday morning and evening Bible studies and Book Clubs. In the spring, we studied 1, 2, and 3 John in a study called What is Love by Kelly Mintner, and read Land of the Blue Burqas by Kate McCord with the Tuesday morning group. We blessed to be able to speak with Kate McCord at our annual brunch in June.

The Tuesday evening group continued their study by Beth Moore through 1 & 2 Thessalonians called Children of the Day. During the summer, the evening Book Club continued with the Yada Yada Prayer Group series. In the fall, we went through the book of Romans, had a study for moms with young children with the book Desperate: Hope for the Mom who Needs to Breathe, and completed Stronger by Angela Thomas.

Looking ahead to 2016-17We started 2016 with the morning group working through the Armor of God study by Priscilla Shirer, and the evening group reading Max Lucado’s Miracle at the Higher Grounds Café.

For 2016, we are planning a Flick, Food and Fellowship movie night to watch the movie War Room, starring Priscilla Shirer. There is also a Spring Fling Tea in the works for the end of April, and a second chance to be a Summer Secret Sister to pray for and encourage other women from our congregation.

We welcome any and all women to any of the events and bible studies, and look forward to meeting and greeting you in the very near future!

Adult EducationIn 2015, there was little change in the basic structure of our course offerings. We continue to have five

classes, including: Women’s (led by Barbara Zellman), Men’s (Bruce Hyldahl), Growing Disci-ples (Jack Kraus), Building Disciples (Maceo Hemmingway) and Sunday Seminar (Drew Huber and Ed Williams). Each of the classes moved onto new subject matter during the year, and the variety we enjoyed as the year came to a close included two Scriptural book studies (Ephesians, 2 Thessalonians), a Biblical narrative study (Israel in the wilderness), an in-depth examination of the person and life of Jesus, and a topical study on marriage. Attendance averaged between 65 and 75 participants combined in all our adult classes. Our teachers do a great job of leading these classes towards a deeper understanding of the Word and its application to our lives, and we greatly appreciate their leadership. If you haven’t yet experienced one of these courses, please give one of them a try!

Men’s MinistryThe Men’s Ministry encourages the men of our church to live out their Christian faith and gives a channel through

which men of the church can connect with and support one another. One activity we added this past year is Prayer with Joe, a weekly time for men to gather and pray for our church and its leaders. We also organize an annual service project in the spring. The men’s ministry held 3 breakfasts this past year. Featured speakers at these break-fasts included: Johnny Graves, Jim Hutchison, Ed Williams, and Jim Flood.

We also sponsor social events, such as our activity night, a trip to a sporting event, or a fishing trip. We are always trying to expand our activities, so if you have any new ideas for the Men’s Ministry, please make your suggestion to someone on the leader-ship team. Please consider joining us for one of our upcoming events.

Sunday Evening ServiceThe Sunday Evening Worship Service at Sunrise Assisted Living began as a Bible study under Pastor Al Reilly. It has morphed into a partnership of sorts between MBC and Sunrise. It provides a worship service for both the residents at Sunrise, and for folks at MBC who desire to continue the worship and edification begun in the morning service. This evening service meets on the second and fourth Sunday evenings at 6:45 pm. For the past year the themes have been the Life of David and studies in 1 John. The service consists of not only a sermon but also singing and prayer, with the congregation choosing about half the songs and presenting prayer requests and praises. Deke Dening and Verna O’Neil have faithfully served with the music part of the ministry for several years. The high point of the year is the annual Christmas Caroling service, with an attendance well over fifty People from both MBC and the Sunrise community.

MBC LibraryThe Library provides resources to the entire MBC family as well as Little Footprints Learning Center. The Library currently has 2,212 items available and circulation last year totaled 763 loans. These items include a variety of print materials including fiction and various categories of non-fiction, i.e. Missions/Biographies, Creation and Science, Christian Life, Beliefs and Moral Theology, and numerous Biblical Studies. The Library also has an extensive collection of DVDs for children and adults. Stop in and see what is available for you and your family. Although Library staff is usually there on Sunday during the Sunday School hour, it is a self serve Library and is open at all times.

We are ready to provide you with a quick, warm and enjoyable ride to our campus, delivering you to the front steps of the building of your choice and returning you to your car at your convenience.

We are excited to see how God continues to use the World Partners and organizations to carry out the Great Commission. As a Missions Team, we are privileged to play a small part in encour-aging our World Partners through prayer, hospi-tality, financial support, and friendship. This year the team bid farewell to Keith Campbell, Hock Ng, and Paul Achenbach and welcomed Judy Cody and Jeri Romaine.

One of our main goals is to strengthen the relationship between the people at MBC and our World Partners. This has been accomplished this year through pulpit interviews and sermons by seven individuals, the use of several videos during services, and weekly prayer reminders in the bulletin and the Praise and Prayer weekly Update. One highlight was a presentation from Dr. Barbara Hull on how to reach out to our Muslim friends and neighbors with the gospel.

Our special focus continues to be supporting the spread of the gospel in Senegal. A short-term trip was conducted in November primarily to re-establish relationships with our partner village Langomac and to prepare for a more extensive trip in April 2016.

As we look to 2016, we hope to be more effective in communicating to the church by expanding the church web site and linking to communica-tions from World Partners and ministries that we support. We also hope to make better use of the Hall of Missions displays by engaging in touch-tone presentations.

Two of our faithful World Partner couples, Dave & Denise McCarthy and Mark & Carol Kerk, are preparing for retirement. We are praying for God’s direction for new World Partners and ministries with whom MBC can partner.

Jim Romaine

...love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. (John 13:34-35 )

How much is a smile worth? How about a friendly handshake? Or a hug? Or a friend who calls to just say, “Hey” on a dreary day? All of the incredible little ways and big ways that people in our church care for one another… here are a few recent examples:

• Agroupofwomenorganizinghospitalvisits,mealdeliveries,andafter-schoolsupportforamemberofourcommunity…itjusthappened.

• Spendingtimeeachweek,prayingwithsomeonewhoisgoingthroughalotinlife…lettingthemknowtheyareloved.

• Ateamofwomenandmenwhosendcards, lotsofcards, topeopleonthe prayer sheet, and to others who may appreciate a surprise in their mailbox.

• Howaboutafewhouseholdprojects,paintingtrim,cleaninggutters,andpackingboxes?Thesearememorymakers.

• Surprisepizzadeliveries,andholidaymeals,andchillingoutoverahotcupofcoffee…

The Care Leadership Team exists to coordinate this kind of caring but most of it happens organically, without our involvement. As a church body we’ve been blessed to share our lives, our little corner of New Jersey. Thank you to the many volunteers, the people who make the connections, who deliver a smile. We appreciate you, and know that this ministry is just getting started. To find out how you can become involved or request support, visit the Care Ministry section at www.millingtonbaptist.org.

Thank you MBC. We look forward to serving with you!

Each year the same two thoughts inevitably come to mind:“What an incredibly rewarding year it has been,” and, “I am so excited for the year ahead.”These are my feelings again this year as MBC celebrates its 165th year in ministry. God continues to be so gracious to our church through all of our circumstances, challenges, and seasons, God continues to invite us deeper into His presence and further into mission and ministry.

My desire in all things operations is to alleviate some of the administrative hang-ups in order to carve out more time and space for our Elders and Pastors to focus on God and people.

I focus on four areas: Facilities (in partnership with our Manager, Jim Hutchison), Human Resources, Risk Management, and Infrastructure.

Some of our accomplishments in the area of facilities included a campus-wide spring clean-up, a complete renovation of 23 Crest Drive, and a new kitchen floor in Fellowship Hall. We added the required fire lane striping and 5 DOT signs to our parking area, and secured rent for an additional year with our tenants at 1 Crest Dr. We completed phase one of renovations to the second floor of the Christian Education Building. In addition to attending to ongoing maintenance issues, we revisited a number of proposals to ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for all.

Staff turnover appears to be a thing of the past. This summer we hired both a full-time Communica-tions & Information Manager as well as a part-time Ministry Assistant. We also welcomed back on a part-time basis, a key staff person. These hirings have improved productivity and workflow in all areas of ministry, enabling our Leadership to focus on vision.

We succeeded in securing favorable healthcare and church property and general liability insurance renewals. On May 18-19 an accreditation team from the Association of Christian Schools International visited LFLC. A successful audit of our facilities and its upkeep helped to secure a national accreditation for the preschool.

This year we made a concerted effort to shore up some of our systems, communications and website, scheduling, follow-up, children’s check-in, online giving, and database management. We completed the migration of our church database from Access ACS to REALM and Planning Center Online. We finalized a security upgrade to the Compass door-lock system and upgraded computer hardware to maintain efficiency and reliability.

Our community was blessed by numerous outreach opportunities. Our Easter Egg Hunt and Charter Day were an enormous success. We hosted our first ever Trunk or Treat and then our calendar year culminated in a Community Carol Sing and Share. Without the coordination and teamwork of staff and volunteers, none of these events would have been possible; this is a testament to our church body.

Looking ahead, campus security, especially for our children, will be a priority along with the continued upkeep of our facilities. Renovations will continue on our CE Building and are planned for our Sanctuary. Policies will be analyzed and reviewed to reflect current culture and environment. Costs will continue to be monitored closely with constant focus on innovation and streamlining our resources will continue to be a top priority.

As you look through our annual report, our budget, stories, and consider the work we do it is clear that MBC is on a mission to live out the Gospel. This is my prayer for our church. We want to see every person, not just surviving, but thriving. We want this for our youth and children. We want this for women and men, single and married, young and elderly.

Without the faithful love and support of our members we would be far from being as strong as we are now! So, thank you for your continued support of this church and our ministry. Thank you for giving me the great joy of serving at MBC. I feel so humbled to be in this role. I am privileged to be in relationship with you.
