All our Millinery Workshops have a maximum of 10 participants to ensure everyone receives all the assistance and direction they require to create something they will be proud to show off to their friends and family. What will I do? You will learn the basics of millinery and create and decorate a unique, personalised pillbox hat that will turn heads at any event. After this workshop you will be hooked on making head wear that is unique and matches that special outfit perfectly. Other millinery workshops at Cobb+Co Museum include Spring Straw Hats, Winter Felt Hats, Headpieces and Fascinators. Meet your tutor All our millinery workshops are conducted by milliner Elaine Mergard. Elaine made her first hat in 1964 during her training as a Home Economics teacher. She has made thousands of hats during her career and all were made in the traditional way, while reflecting current fashion colours, styles and trends. She even made hats for her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce during her time as Governor of Queensland 2003-2008. How do you book in? To secure your place in this workshop you will need to contact Cobb+Co Museum to register and pay a non-refundable $100 deposit. See the reverse for Terms and Conditions. Spectators are welcome Spectators are welcome at all workshops, free with admission. Thanks to Toowoomba Regional Council, all residents receive free admission to the Museum on presentation of proof of address. What else can I do? Cobb+Co Museum heritage workshops are conducted by the Museum’s resident artisans. Regular workshops are held in blacksmithing, silversmithing, sandstone sculpture, millinery, leathercraft, glass art, calligraphy and leatherplaiting.     Terms and Conditions

    What we will do.

    • Provide safe, modern facilities and equipment in an environment that is conducive to learning and creativity.

    • Ensure our instructors are not only experienced, skilled and renowned in their field but also have a passion and

    ability to pass on their talents.

    • Depending on times of year and special circumstances we reserve the right to substitute any part of the class

    and other issues that are beyond our control.

    • We promise to give at least five days’ notice if we need to postpone or cancel a workshop for any reason. In this

    case, you will receive a full refund or funds paid can be transferred to any available workshop you choose within

    a reasonable timeframe.

    • We are able to cater for individual dietary requirements but please give us prior notice.

    • Most classes are suitable for men and women 16 years and over. Please ask our staff about physical

    requirements for specific workshops such as blacksmithing. We also offer special classes for children under 16

    years.

    • The consumption of alcohol is not permitted before or during workshops. For the safety of the individual and

    others, persons deemed by our staff to be intoxicated will not be allowed to participate in a workshop.

    What you need to do!

    • To secure your place in a workshop, you will need to contact us to register and pay a $100 deposit.

    • Please choose your class carefully we are not able to offer refunds.

    • Full payment is required at least seven days before the workshop to secure your place.

    • Please make sure your gift voucher is current before you book, we are unable to accept out of date vouchers.

    • If you cancel your registration less than seven days prior to the commencement of the workshop, you will forfeit

    all funds paid. We are however happy for you to arrange another participant.

    • The duration of all classes will vary please check the times of each individual class.

    • Please make sure you have the correct date for your workshops as we are unable to credit you if you don’t turn

    up.

    • Most of our workshops are held in our custom-built Factory, so you will need to wear closed in shoes at a

    minimum. Some workshops, such as blacksmithing will require additional safety clothing such as steel-capped

    shoes, long trousers and a long sleeved shirt.

    • You may want to bring a notebook and pen for taking down the secret skills!
