CABB - Present mm capabilities
More channels (16384) over each 2 GHz sub-band are technically feasible, but the timescale of implementation is uncertain at present
![Page 4: Millimetre Astronomy with the Australia Telescope Max Voronkov Software Scientist – ASKAP 12 th June 2009.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062421/56649de85503460f94ae2ea4/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
CABB - Zoom modes (example: 1 MHz zoom)
![Page 5: Millimetre Astronomy with the Australia Telescope Max Voronkov Software Scientist – ASKAP 12 th June 2009.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062421/56649de85503460f94ae2ea4/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
CABB - Zoom modes
• The width of a filter bank channel is the width of each zoom window• Coarse resolution of the wide sub-band = bandwidth of 1 zoom window
• Stitching is possible (seamless, if interleaved windows are used)
• Initially up to 4 zoom windows per each 2 GHz sub-band• Eventually up to 16 zooms per sub-band will be available
• Each 2 GHz sub-band (and all its zooms) can have different resolution

NH3 (4,4) in G351.77-0.54 (pre-CABB)
• Work by Beuther, Walsh and Longmore
• Zero-order (contours) and first-order (colour scale) moment maps
• Clear indication of rotation, but no signs of flattening
• Rotating surrounding envelope, rather than a disc
• The major axis is roughly 10000 AU

Search for CH3CH2OCH3 (ethyl methyl ether)
• 7mm pre-CABB work by Jones, Cunningham et al.• Lines detected, but no correct brightness pattern with other transitions has been found. So identification may be incorrect.

See Tui Britton’s poster on BHR71 for a science example
• Similar set of receivers (but can go up to 117 GHz)• Wide-band spectrometer (UNSW-MOPS) available
(for a few years by now) Available modes:• Broad-band mode continuous coverage of 8.3 GHz (0.25 MHz resolution = 0.8 km/s at 3mm) • Zoom mode16 windows, 137.5 MHz each (0.03 MHz resolution = 0.1 km/s at 3mm)

Summary
• ATCA and Mopra are very powerful Southern hemisphere instruments thanks to the new broadband capabilities
• CABB: two 2 GHz sub-bands within 8 GHz, optional zoom modes
• MOPS: either 8 GHz broad band or 16 zooms, 137.5 MHz each
• Tuning ranges are 16-27 GHz, 30-50 GHz and 83.5-106 GHz (76-117 GHz for Mopra)
• A number of large surveys are already under way or planned• There is a potential for collaboration, contact the relevant PI if
you’re interested.
• Mopra HOPS, all Galactic plane at 12mm (Andrew Walsh)
• Mopra MALT-90 at 3mm (Jim Jackson)
• Mopra MALT-7mm (Gary Fuller), ATCA-7mm (Andrew Walsh)
• ATCA follow-up of the MMB survey detections at 7mm (myself)
• Proposal deadline is only a few days away (June 15)!• This deadline is for the next Oz summer, but night time is usually
fine for 12mm and 7mm observations.
