Lake Ridge EstatesT

he Platinum Team of RE/MAX Southern Realty would like to introduce Taylor Bunch, formally of Baton Rouge, La., now living in Destin, Florida. This skilled developer is bringing Okaloosa County a new Louisiana flair that can only be found in Lake Ridge Estates. Bunch is backed by 30 years of residential

development experience through his family, which has developed proper-ties in South Louisiana since 1970. Now, he is bringing that talent and expertise to us here in the Florida panhandle. The Platinum Team has partnered up with realtor Jeff Fontenot, whose roots go all the way back to Cajun soil, to launch the growth of this new project.

Lake Ridge Estates is a quaint boutique subdivision nestled away beneath beautiful old pine and oak trees add decorated with baby magno-lias and crepe myrtles. This Acadian themed subdivision is the only one in all of North Okaloosa county and features a beautiful lake with a flowing fountain. Beyond the lake lie the streets of Lake Ridge dotted with New Orleans-style street lamps. Just five minutes from the areas’ schools, this community holds a sense of family with a country feeling and no through traffic. With dozens of Acadian home plans to choose from, buyers are not faced with another cookie-cutter neighborhood. Some of the more unique home plans include large porches, courtyards, keeping rooms, cathedral ceilings, brick and stucco accents and true pine wood floors.

Along with these house plans come a number of amenities, including solid wood cypress doors, granite countertops, oil-rubbed bronze fixtures and a home that you can live well, live larger and live happily in.

What truly sets Lake Ridge Estates apart from other subdivisions? Luxury and natural beauty in an Acadian style home.

To view some Acadian house plans, visit www.Acadiana-design.com. For more information on this exciting new community, please call (850) 423-1188 or visit us at www.platinumteamsellsflorida.com.

Promotion and Assessment Requirements

the Pupil Progression Plan (PPP) specifies the requirements for promotion to the next grade level and for graduation. the sunshine state standards are benchmarks for what students should know and be able to do in each subject at each grade level. they are required as the curriculum in every public school in the state. there are 24 specific credits required to earn a diploma from an okaloosa high school.

students receive report cards every 9 weeks. subject area grades are based on academic achievement on the sunshine state standards. end of Course (eoC) exams are also taken by middle and high school students at the conclusion of the course.

the FCat (Florida Comprehensive achievement test) is given to students in grades 3-10 and includes a test of reading and mathematics. a separate writing test is given in grades 4, 8, and 10 and a science test is given in grades 5, 8, and 11. in order to graduate students must pass the reading and math tests. exceptional education students (ese) seeking a standard diploma are expected to participate in the FCat assessments. results from the FCat are generally not available until the final days of school each year or in the summer. For more information about the FCat visit www.fldoe.org and for practice questions visit www.fcatexplorer.com

Services that may be available to Okaloosa students and families

Mentoring – Mentors are critical in motivating students. Mentors are matched with students at all academic levels and many mentors are needed. Mentoring takes place on the school campus one day a week for about 30 minutes at a time that is convenient for both the student and the mentor. Contact the Office of Community Affairs at 833-7614.

After-school programs – Many schools offer after-care programs in their facilities that may also include tutoring and organized homework sessions. Contact your school for more information.

Academic Advisement – school guidance counselors work closely with teachers, administrators and parents. services are provided in four content areas: academic achievement, career development, personal/social development, and community involvement. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s counselor for additional information specific to the school.

Progress Monitoring Plans (PMP) – if a student is not proficient in grade level curriculum and requires academic support, a plan of remediation will be developed in collaboration with the parent. the PMP will remain in place until the student consistently demonstrates grade level performance.

Specialized Academic Opportunities for Students

okaloosa schools offer a variety of academic programs beyond the regular education classes for students. these programs include:

• Gifted courses: Students must qualify through a testing and qualification process

• Advanced Placement®: College level courses taught by high school teachers

• International Baccalaureate (IB): Internationally recognized course of study

• Dual enrollment: Qualified students take college courses for high school credit

• CHOICE/Career/Technical courses: In zoned schools or at applied technology Center

• Virtual School: K-12 Virtual Instruction Program (VIP) for full and part-time virtual students

Exceptional Student Education (ESE)

the okaloosa County school district offers a continuum of services through the exceptional student education (ese) program to assist students with special needs, including gifted students. iePs and ePs are developed by a team of individuals which includes the parent, teachers and other district staff. there are a myriad of classroom and testing accommodations that can be implemented for eligible ese students. some eligible ese students are instructed using a modified curriculum based on special standards and will graduate with a special diploma. the Florida department of education offers a parental choice program for ese students through John M. McKay Scholarships for Students with disabilities Program. More information is available at www.floridaschoolchoice.org
