FOREWORD

This Military Standard has been prepared for use by all Departmentsand Agencies of the Department of Defense. Its purpose is to define thecriteria used in the classification of engine generator sets of the tY3D

Standard Family into Tactical and Prime, and into the subclassificationsof Precise and Utility. It provides users an overview of the operatingcharacteristics of the engine generator sets comprising the DOD Standard

Family and serves as a ready reference and guide for the military services

in the preparation of engine generator set specifications.

The parametric values listed in this Standard (Table II and III)represent the maximum or minfmum values (as applicable) acceptable to allof the military services (Army, NaVy, Air Force , and Narine COrps) .

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard provides definitions for the classification ofengine generator sets comprising the DOD Standard Family by Type, accordingto their application, weight, mobility, reliability, and life; by class, according to their electrical performance characteristics; and by Mode, according to the frequency of the power generated. The table of electricalperformance characte~istics is annotated to refereme the test method withinMIL-STD-705 used to determine the value of the parameter listed. Separatetables are provided giving the voltage connections a“d reconnection availableii each of the gemrator sets of the DOD Standard Family and the deratingof the sets with temperature and altitude.

1.2 The DOD Mobile Electric Pm.JerEngine Generator Set Family covers arange in output capacity from 0,5 kilowatt (!-w)through 750 kw and include.electrical power outputs at 60 Hertz (HZ) , 50/60 Hz, @O Hz, akternacing

current (at), and direct current (de). Detailed physical and electricalcharacteristics for each member of the DOD Standard Family are containedin MIL-STD-633.
