Since the Egyptians considered such animals as gods, the Israelites knew that this would be a sacrilege in the eyes of their masters. How did they muster the courage to follow their religion, facing the possibility of extreme reprisals? The answer, I believe, is that they had full trust that G-d was going to protect them and deliver them. Some people fail in this trust, but we should have trust in G-d. When we do the right thing and follow our Torah, our G-d will recompense us and give us success in our endeavors. G-d says he will pass over the land of Egypt on this night smiting the firstborn. The blood will be a sign to pass over the homes of the children of Israel. G-d commands the children of Israel to commemorate this with a seven day festival during which they are not to have any leavened bread. MIKVEH ISRAEL RECORD

FROM THE RABBI

In this week's Parashah, G-d commands the children of Israel to get a lamb on the tenth of the month and hold it until the fourteenth. Then the Israelites were to take the lamb from the tent in order to slaughter it and eat it. The Midrash tells us that it was kept in the house of every Israelite for four days.

Parashah con’t from 1st page

That night G-d smote the firstborn of the Egyptians. Pharaoh told the children of Israel to leave. They left in a hurry with their bread which did not have time to rise. Before they left, they borrowed from the Egyptians precious items. G-d gave the laws of the Passover sacrifice to Moses. He told Moses that the firstborn of the children of Israel and their animals are sanctified to Him, and will need to be redeemed.
