This lecture took place on 5 October 2009.Four days after this lecture (9 October 2009), the Nobel Peace Price was awarded to the United States President Barack Obama for his work and vision for a world without nuclear weapons among others.

“In the final analysis, this problem [proliferation] can only be solved through the abolition of nuclearweapons. So long as they continue to exist, the danger will be with us, like the famous "rifle on the wall" that will fire sooner or later.”Mikhail Gorbachev, WSJ, 31 January 2007
