3Michigan-Indiana Holstein News

Sarah Trapp and Max Dunseth Holstein USA Regional Field Representatives

After a busy summer and fall of shows and sales it is easy to see how an $8 investment can affect your herd.

Registering your animal unlocks so many avenues that we sometimes all overlook. Registered animals increase the value of your herd just by having good identification information. Proper identification results in improved breeding and milk records. Registered animals can be marketed in your backyard or exported all over the world. With genomic information there is an opportunity for anyone to market females or for selling sons through AI.

Our youth really benefit from Holstein activities as well. We have heard so many stories at farms about experiences with little britches, cow camp, showmanship and friends at fairs, as well as Holstein convention with the many activities and contests. Besides being such a great activity for our youth, showing, meetings and conventions

are an excellent way for adults to meet other registered breeders and to promote their genetics.

So if you are involved with Registered Holsteins, be sure to take advantage of the many offerings the Registered Cow has, and pass on the word that we have a start-up program that allows all Holstein Breeders the chance to register their grade herd. So if you have friends or neighbors with the great Holstein cow, tell them about them many opportunities for them and their family. To quote the late Bob Cain “If you take care of her, she will take care of you”. In closing we would like to wish all of you Happy Holidays and trust that your harvest is near done and it was a safe and bountiful one.

If you have questions about Holstein’s Start-up program, or any of the Holstein program’s, give us a call and we will stop out to visit. Remember this is your association.

Thank you for your business.

A Special Thank You to Myron and Sara Jane Moyer

Thank you, Myron and Sara Jane, for your years of service to the Indiana Holstein Association. We have enjoyed working with you in many facets – from board meetings, to cow shows, annual meeting and planning the national convention. Your diligence and responsibility to the state association is enormously appreciated by many breeders, as well as your wit! We have come to know you as friends and could always count on a smile. Not only have you done a fine job, but it was always a joy to have you in the mix. Thank you for all you have done for the Indiana Holstein Association.

As we turn the corner, we are excited to welcome Kim Myers! We look forward to working with Kim and her enthusiasm as she directs the association over the coming years. Welcome Kim!
