Miele washer disinfectorsThanks to the Profitronic controls, pro-cess documentation is possible via aprinter linked to the appliance or acentral database on an external PC. Ifseveral machines are installed side byside, they can be linked to each other.

Miele washer disinfectors offer versatileinstallation options designed specifical-ly to meet the needs of hospitals. Forexample, they can offer an economicalsolution for the decentralised proces-sing of anaesthetic and minimal invasi-on surgical instruments or for centralprocesssing of larger quantities of in-struments. The single chamber system(which enables each unit to clean, dis-infect and dry independently) is partic-ularly versatile and economical. The use of automatic loading systemswith the G 7828 can reduce the num-ber of personnel required to operatethe machine, especially on the uncleanside. The loading module can take upto three loaded baskets and inserts,which are then taken automatically intothe washer disinfector. Preparation canthen take place during working breaksand after the end of the working dayfor example. By using the automaticmobile unit recognition system all in-strument baskets will be automaticallyassigned the correct programme.

All relevant Miele washer disinfectorsare certified as Class 2a medicaldevices in accordance with the93/42/EWG directive and operativelegislation covering the use of medicaldevices (EU document MEDDEV10/93, rule 15), and bear the CE stampof approval with index 0366.

Quality management for medicaldevices

Physical andchemical aspects of instrument pro-cessing under practical working condi-tions are analysed using modern testmethods, and the results are used todevelop customised solutions to meetindividual requirements.

“Validation” is the recording, docu-menting and interpretation of the re-quired results in order to prove that aprocess has conformed to the speci-fied requirements. The results areachieved by using test methods whichmust be reproducable in a manner re-levant to the circumstances and speci-fications (method validation). This isparticularly important for cleaning tak-ing the type of soiling to be removedinto consideration. The most importantfactor for the operation is to decide atwhich level the cleaning standard ofthe process should be standardised.

Miele has been intensively involved formany years in research into this area.The methods of validation in the labo-ratory and the research into factorswhich influence cleaning, such aswater quality, cleaning agents, tempe-ratures, etc. are all aimed at findingeconomical, efficient and problem-freeworking procedures and to optimisethem.

As it is only possible to standardisemachine cleaning, as opposed tomanual cleaning, even with ultrasoundsupport, it must be the aim, to makeresults of machine processes availableusing validated procedures.

By capturing specific parameters it ispossible to reproduce a validated pro-cedure in each batch, i.e. documentthem – Miele Process docmentationSoftware (MPS).

The Aqua Soft System operates as alevel-controlled twin tank water soften-er, consisting of 2 cartridges filled withcation exchange resin and a salt reser-voir. The resin contains sodium ions.When hard water flows over the resin,the resin attracts calcium and magne-sium and at the same time dischargesits sodium load. The second cartridgeis not in operation at this time. Whenthe supply of one cartridge is depleted,a switch to the second cartridge isactivated by the hardness range selec-tor which is set to the hardness of thelocal water supply by the service tech-nician when commissioning the machi-ne. At the same time reactivation of thespent resin in the first cartridge begins.Brine (NaCl) is taken from the salt re-servoir which is regularly replenishedwith pellets of coarse salt. When firstfilled, approx. 27 kg of salt is required,subsequent refills require approx. 25 kg.This ensures that the system is alwaysready for operation.
