Mission  

•  MMCG  is  dedicated  to  grow  herbs    and  vegetables  for  America’s  Second  Harvest  Food  Bank  of  Coastal  Georgia  to  prepare  healthy  no-­‐salt  and  low-­‐sugar  meals  for  children  through  Kids  Café!  

•  MMCG  provides  a  community  garden  for  neighbors  to  grow  herbs  &  veggies  in  addiFon  to  parFcipate  in  educaFonal  and  networking  opportuniFes  for  local  gardeners.

Community  Garden  Produces  A    Healthier  Community  

•  Food  PreservaFon  and  Food  Safety  classes  are  taught  through  this  Community  Garden.    

•  Local  schools  and  culinary  programs  teach  foods  and  nutriFon  healthy  choices  through  this  garden  to  food  desert  neighborhoods.  

•  Volunteers  teach  the  benefits  of  growing  &  cooking  with  herbs  to  reduce  salt  and  sugar  for  beMer  health  in  addiFon  to  eaFng  more  fruits  and  vegetables.  

EducaFon  &  Outreach  •  Garden  hosts  free  monthly  workshops.  

–  EducaFonal  classes  provide  hand-­‐on  working  knowledge  from  local  and  regional  experts  on  a  variety  of  topics  to  include  harvest  walks  through  the  garden.  

–  Entertaining  –  because  someFmes  gardeners  want  to  have  fun  away  from  the  dirt,  too!  

•  Sand  Gnats  ouFngs  as  a  social  escape.  • MarFni  Night  at  The  Mansion  –  fund  raiser  to  generate  interest  in  the  garden,  addiFonal  funds  for  garden,  and  spread  the  word  on  garden’s    mission.  

 

Accomplishments  •  First  reclaimed  FEMA  lot  to  have  completed  paperwork,  permiUng  and  start  up  in  6  months.  

•  Over  1000  pounds  of  protein  and  produce  have  been  donated  to  America’s  Second  Harvest  Food  Bank  of  Coastal  Georgia  for  Kids  Café  for  use  in  daily  meals  by  volunteers.  

•  Garden  volunteers  donated  over  600  pounds  of  fresh  herbs  and  vegetables  this  year.  

•  Delivered  fresh  flowers  to  ill  neighbors  and  fresh  vegetables  to  neighborhood  residents.  

•  Provided  garden  tours  for  schools  &  clubs.

•  Personal  fulfillment  and  moFvaFon  drives  a  community  garden.  

•  Make  the  work  fun  while  geUng  some  exercise.  •  Be  a  good  neighbor  &  make  new  friends.  •  Create  a  healthier  community  for  all  residents.  •  Get  your  hands  dirty  once  in  a  while.  •  Design  a  sustainable  urban  environment.  •  Reduce  food  deserts  in  your  community!
