Plot
} -Hermia is promised to Demetrius but she and Lysander are in
love. } -They run away together into the woods.
} -Helena, Hermia’s friend, loves Demetrius and is jealous that he
doesn’t love her back.
} -Titania and Oberon are the fairy king and queen.
} -Oberon tells Puck to put love juice on Demetrius so that he will
love Helena. } -Oberon is trying to make everyone happy.
} -Puck puts spell on Lysander, and now both men are in love with
Helena. } -Helena thinks they are joking with her.
} -Helena and Hermia fight over men.
} -Mechanicals come in and rehearse for their play in the woods.
} -Bottom is turned into a Donkey because Oberon tells Puck to do
this, and then put potion on Titania so that she will fall in love with
him. It’s just a joke. } -Everyone goes to sleep, and Puck fixes his mess with the
potions. } -They wake up, love the appropriate people, and are taken back
to Athens to get married.
} -They think that everything that happened was just a dream.
} -Mechanicals put on funny play for wedding.
} -Puck asks everyone to forgive him and keep in mind it was all
just a dream.

The 1960s were a time of classism and oppression (social and governmental), but also a time of open mindedness, love, and a gap between old fashioned methods of thinking and young minds striving to think and accept in new ways. A Midsummer Night’s Dream highlights this perfectly.
