The 2021 Midsumma Festival will run from Sunday 17 January to Sunday 7 February 2021, kicking offwith the ever popular Midsumma Carnival at Alexandra Gardens. Alongside Midsumma Carnival,individuals and organisations can once again show their pride down St Kilda's Fitzroy Street duringPride March on Sunday 31 January 2021.

Gasworks Arts Park is one of Midsumma's largest hubs. We want you to be involved!

WHAT IS THE MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL?

Gasworks Arts Park has been involved with Midsumma Festival as a venue hub for more than 12years. We often stage several productions at a time with a curated mix of both Gasworks Producedproductions and independent Theatre Hire. Our objectives are to hold a diverse, inclusive programthat appeals to a large demographic.

What Hubs receive from Midsumma Festival

All events receive dedicated marketing across the website, eNews, PR and social media as part ofMidsumma's marketing campaign for the Festival.

However, Midusmma Hubs also receive extra value which includes:

Dedicated Gasworks Hub page on the Midsumma website which includes all Gaswork events -this page is a top navigation item in our main menu. During the MIDSUMMA Festival, Gasworks Arts Park packs as many productions as we can fit intoeach venue, each night. This enables us to offer you cheaper Venue Hire rates and cheaper staffingcosts as these costs are shared between multiple productions. This creates a full and excitingMIDSUMMA season and makes it more accessible to creatives such as yourselves.

During Midsumma 2021 Gasworks Arts Park both our performance spaces will once again be availablefor hire.

We have two theatres available for hire, the Gasworks Theatre (seats 142 patrons) and the StudioTheatre (seats 60 patrons). See images and details about the spaces below:

Midsumma Festival offers a wide range of support to artists participating in the Festival. Costs will vary depending on each individual hire and their specific needs. The demand for spacewithin the MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL is growing year after year. The hire costs have been calculated tobe as accessible as possible while still covering the venue's expenses to run this event.

Costs are calculated by a flat Venue Hire Rate (during MIDSUMMA, this rate is heavily reduced) plusstaffing costs. While the hourly rate of staffing costs for FOH and Tech is not reduced, by havingmultiple productions in each venue, we are able to share these costs across each production.Depending on the length of your production, these costs can be as low as 50% of regular staffing hirecosts.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

CAN I MANAGE MY OWN TICKETING?

No, Gasworks Arts Park and Midsumma will manage the ticketing on your behalf.

HOW DOES TICKETING WORK? Midsumma will place on sale 50% of your house and Gasworks Arts Park will place on sale the other50%. If a performance is selling particularly well, Gasworks Arts Park and Midsumma may transfertickets between each other to ensure each still has tickets available for purchase. HOW DO I GET MY MONEY AT THE END OF THE HIRE? At the end of your season, Midsumma will pass your final box office takings over to Gasworks.Gasworks will reconcile your final hire costs and transfer the remaining funds from both theGasworks Box Office Sales and Midsumma Box Office sales. This process can sometimes take morethan a month due to the large number of shows participating in Midsumma, so please factor that intoyour budget.

Generally during Midsumma, we run performances from Tuesday - Saturday. This leaves Sundays as a rest day and Monday as the dayfor Bump in's and Tech runs. We also often hold matinee performances on Saturdays.

In order to offer cheaper rates to artists, the venues are shared with multiple performances in each venue each evening. This requiresthe productions to be able to bump in/out quickly.

The below schedule shows how we usually fill out Midsumma. Please note this is only a guide and is sometimes adjusted slightly if theneed demands it.
