Taunton River Herring Run

Middleborough, MA

The Herring run is an annual Herring migration from the ocean up the river to spawn.

With the industrialization of the rivers and Massachusetts, dams and waterfalls made it harder for the fish to get up stream

This event celebrates the Herring Run and shows man made improvements

This is a fish ladder.

As an alternative to a waterfall, the fish can scale up this set of “underwater steps “

Children are allowed to catch and release the fish by hand

Children share their experience with new found friends

Catching Herring by hand does not require wading in the water

There are a number of secondary streams that lead to new discoveries and new friends

At the end the kids were dirty, wet, tired……..and happy.
