Euphrates River to Be Dried Up üIn revelatIon 16:12, the bIble predIcts that the euphrates rIver wIll be drIed up to prepare the way for the kings of the East to invade Israel. This will happen at the time of the battle of Armageddon according to verse 16 of the same chapter. The battle of Armageddon will be the final battle at which time Jesus will return and fight on the side of the nation of Israel. Immediately thereafter He will establish his kingdom and usher in his one-thousand year reign of peace. On January 13, 1990, the Indianapolis Star carried the headline “Turkey Will Cut Off Flow of Euphrates for One Month.” The article stated that a huge reservoir had been built by Turkey. While filling up the reservoir, the flow of the Euphrates would be stopped for one month and a concrete plug for a diversion channel built. These things have now been done. With this newly built dam, Turkey has the ability to stop the Euphrates River at will. The conditions for fulfilling this 1,900 year-old prophecy are now in place.

China Goes to War üIn revelatIon 9:15-16, the bIble prophesIes that an army of 200 mIllIon soldIers wIll launch a war which will kill “the third part of men.” Never in the history of the world until our present generation has there been a power on earth that could field 200 million soldiers. However, the late ruler of China Mao Tse Tung boasted in his diary that he could field an army of 200 million. The CIA World Factbook reported that, in the year 2001, it was estimated that China had 200,866,946 men of military age and that this number is growing by 10 million per year.

Worldwide Numbering System Predicted üIn revelatIon 13, the bIble prophesIes that a world dIctator wIll soon rule over a world government. He will cause all people on the earth to receive a number without which they will be unable to buy or sell. We are seeing this prophecy fulfilled before our eyes in a most astonishing way. Nearly every human being in the world has now been assigned a number. In America, it is our Social Security number. In the past few years, we have seen this number extended to newborns. A child without a Social Security number cannot be declared as a dependent on an income tax return. We have seen the emergence of electronic money, shopping with credit cards, and many people actually urging the abolishment of cash. All of these things could not possibly have been fulfilled until this present time. Only after the invention of the computer could such a worldwide numbering system be administered.

The Emergence of a New World Order ürevelatIon 13:7 and danIel 7:23 prophesy the establIshment of a world government. The term “New World Order” has become a prevalent phrase in the world’s political culture. Mikhail Gorbachev made the term famous, and Pope John Paul II referred to it repeatedly. In the September 12, 1990 issue of the Chicago Tribune, our former president George Bush said, “Iraq is the first test for the New World Order.” He emphatically stated that the Iraq War was Saddam Hussein against the world. The United Nations’ troops are continually referred to as the multi-national forces. The decision has been made to establish an interdependent community of nations that will rule the world under United Nations authority. The Bible says that this will lead us into a great world government. The formation of this government is at hand.

Those who are born again (John 3:3-5) will have eternal life and rule as kings and priests with Christ forever.

what is endtime? In 1968, Irvin Baxter Jr. discovered the United States and other modern nations in the Bible. He also found the Berlin Wall in the Bible and that one day it was to be torn down, re-uniting Germany, and that event would be the catalyst to spark an international movement called the “New World Order.” These things have now come to pass. Irvin Baxter Jr., a Pentecostal minister, began Endtime Ministries in 1986 when he wrote A Message For The President, a book explaining the major prophecies of the Bible which he had been teaching since 1968. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, prophetic fulfillment accelerated rapidly. The decision was made to launch Endtime magazine. The purpose of the magazine is to explain the prophecies of the Bible and to show that they are now being fulfilled in intricate detail. Articles focus on the soon return of Jesus Christ, the truth of the Bible, and the need for salvation. Endtime does not deal with doctrinal controversies, as valid as they may be. How does the unilateral withdrawal from Gaza contribute to the fulfillment of these future events?

tribulation in the west bankBoth Jews and Palestinians are saying that Ariel Sharon’s withdrawal will not stop at Gaza. It is obvious that Sharon plans to withdraw from the West Bank to behind Israel’s newly built security fence. How-ever, he will not forcibly remove Jews from Judea as he did in Gaza. That nearly ripped the Jewish nation apart. He will probably tell the West Bank Jews that Is-rael is withdrawing from Judea and that, if they remain behind, they will live under the Palestinian Authority with no protec-tion from the state of Israel. We know this because there will be Jews living in Judea when the great tribulation begins, at which time they will be slaughtered un-mercifully (Matthew 24:15–21).

solving the temple mount disputeWhen Sharon begins discussion concern-ing possible withdrawal from the West Bank, he will again be applauded by the world community. This will create the perfect opportunity to solve the Temple Mount problem, simultaneous with the withdrawal.

The solution will be reasonable and fair. Israel will protect the rights of Muslims to worship on the Temple Mount while finally allowing Jews to worship on the site of their First and Second Temples

and to build their Third Temple there (Revelation 11:1–2).

Opposition from the Jewish religious right to Israel’s withdrawal from bibli-cal Judea will be blunted by the promise to build the Third Temple—after being without one since 70 AD.

Opposition from the international community will be stilled by asking them to place their forces on the shared Tem-ple Mount to keep the peace. For a long time, the United Nations has yearned to establish its authority in Jerusalem. We know the world government will have au-thority over the Temple Mount because the world leader, the Antichrist, will stand on the Temple Mount, claiming to be its sovereign ruler (2 Thessalonians 2:3–4).

gaza, west bank, jerusalemPalestinians are claiming victory for their armed resistance of Israeli occupation in Gaza. They are now saying that Israel will be forced from the West Bank next, and then after that—Jerusalem. Their order of events will probably be correct. How-ever, it won’t turn out exactly as they are planning.

They anticipate Israel ultimately being driven out of the Middle East entirely. However, we know from scripture that Israel will survive in the Middle East and that peace will be established there. This will only be accomplished when the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ intervenes at His Second Coming.

�� Prophetic Implications of Israel’s Disengagement

We have just witnessed prophetic fulfillment in progress. In order to under-stand how Israel’s disengagement from Gaza contributes to the fulfillment of Bible prophecy, we have to know what the prophecies are. Here’s what we

know: (1) At some future time, Jews living in the West Bank will have to run for their lives. (2) The Temple Mount will be shared between Jews and Gentiles. (3) A Jewish temple will be built on the Temple Mount. (4) The Temple Mount will be under the con-trol of an international peacekeeping force.

[ the first pope ]I recently spoke with a traditional Catholic who proudly pointed out the fact that the first pope was the Apostle Peter. Since Jesus said, “Upon this rock I will build my church,” then this proves that the Catholic faith is the true church that Jesus spoke of. What is your take on this bold statement, and is there any proof of Peter the apostle being the first pope?

reply: There is absolutely no proof, scrip-tural or historical, that Peter was the first pope of the Roman Catholic Church. This teaching is a total fabrication.

In Matthew 16:15, Jesus asked his dis-ciples, “…whom say ye that I am?” Peter answered, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus answered him saying, “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Fa-ther which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

This entire discourse centered on the wonderful revelation that Jesus was the Christ. When Peter confessed this corner-stone truth, Jesus said, upon the rock of the truth that I am the Christ, I will build my church. The Apostle Paul elaborated upon this truth in Ephesians 2:20 where he taught that the church was, “…built upon the foundation of the apostles and proph-ets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone.” Notice that Peter was not the chief corner stone. Jesus is the chief corner stone.

[ peaCe on earth ]In our weekly Bible study, we have come to a question that we are unable to find out any information on. What will the purpose of the 1,000-year reign of Christ be, and what will happen during this time?—Brian Rodgers

reply: The 1,000 year reign of Jesus Christ will demonstrate how God intended for mankind to live from the beginning, and the blessings He wanted us to enjoy. During this time, the will of God will “be done on earth, even as it is in heaven.” There will not be one war for 1,000 years. It will indeed be “peace on earth, goodwill toward men.”

[ a literal new jerusalem? ]I listen to your show just about every day. I must say that you do the best job of proph-ecy teaching that I have EVER heard. Not that I am an old man (just 32 yrs old), but I have read prophecy for some twelve or fourteen years and to put it plainly, you just make sense.

I have disagreed with hardly anything I’ve heard you teach (with the one exception of the interpretation of the coming great and holy “City of Jerusalem”. I would interpret the passage as being literal, not represen-tational, as I believe you did.)

reply: Actually, I have stated that I’m not sure whether the New Jerusalem is physi-cal or not. I lean toward it being spiritual and not physical, but perhaps it is both.

Throughout scripture, the church is called the bride of Christ. In Revelation 21:9-10, the angel said to John, “Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.” Then he showed him “…the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.”

In Hebrews 12:22-23, the same thing is taught. There the heavenly Jerusalem is called the church of the firstborn.

Whether it’s physical or spiritual, I know that I want to be included in it!

[ destroying the nations ]While reading Jeremiah this morning, I no-ticed that God said He would completely destroy all the nations where he scattered

Israel. (Jeremiah 30:11) The majority of the scattered Jews today live in America.—Joel P. Smith

reply: Later on in the chapter God elabo-rated on what he said: “Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured.” (Jer-emiah 30:16)

The United States has not devoured Is-rael. We have protected her and been her best friend. The prophesied destruction in this passage does not apply to us.

That does not preclude the possibility of our destruction for other reasons.

[ when god judges a nation ]I am a faithful listener to your “Politics and Religion” broadcast and a fervent follower of Christ. I am concerned in these last days as the US continues to remove Almighty God from our schools, our pledge, and our courthouses that this nation is facing noth-ing less than removal of God’s protection from our land.

My question is whether or not God will see our nation as a “people” and thereby hold every US citizen accountable for the mistakes of our leadership. After all, we elected them.

In other words, I love the Lord and I do not agree with the path our leadership has taken toward Israel or toward Christianity in this country, but I fear that the actions of our government could have consequences for individuals.

I don’t want the Lord to turn his back on those of us who are faithful. I have been raised a Christian my entire life, so I know the textbook answer, but I could use some reassurance that He still sees the hearts of the saved. We are fettered everyday with more news indicating this nation rejects our Christian foundation.

I pray earnestly that the Lord remembers His people in this nation despite the spirit of evil making its way through our govern-ment.

reply: At the end of the First Temple era, God sent Jeremiah to prophesy concerning God’s coming judgment upon Israel. Jer-emiah prophesied that Israel would be car-ried away captive for 70 years. God told the people through Jeremiah that they were not to resist the armies of Babylon, but were to go willingly into captivity. The Lord said, if you resist, you will be destroyed. If you go willingly, I will bless you, even in your captivity.

Israel’s King Zedekiah and his followers resisted and were destroyed. Daniel, the three Hebrew children, Nehemiah, Ezra and many others went willing into captivity and ended up in high levels of government.

When God judges a nation, He always places His protection over those who walk with Him. When God decided to destroy the world by a flood, He went to great extremes to preserve Noah and his family.

[ un’s neXt general seCretary ]I know you’ve heard the speculation over the past few years about the possibility of Clinton becoming the next head of the UN. It seemed as though most of that talk had died down until I recently did a Google search for “the next UN secretary general,” and his name came up over and over. Most of the articles I found are pretty recent.

He had always wanted to be the one to broker a Mideast peace agreement, and this would provide him a second chance. Also, could you imagine Bill as head of the UN and Hillary as president? As unlikely as it may be, it still provides some very

reply: With the present scandals plagu-ing the UN, nothing can be ruled out. They will certainly be looking for a new Secre-tary General that can restore the orga-nization’s credibility and provide strong leadership. However, it will be very unlikely for an American to be chosen. It is gener-ally believed that it is Asia’s turn to supply the Secretary General, and it has been an unwritten rule that the Secretary General would not be chosen from any of the big five nations—the U.S., Great Britain, Rus-sia, France or China.

[ searChing for the ark ]I listen to “Politics and Religion” almost daily, and it is refreshing to hear you look-ing at world events from the perspective of “thus saith the Lord.” I’m a little bothered by the discussion last week on finding or searching for the Ark of the Covenant. Not only should Jeremiah’s prophecy settle any questions on finding it, but don’t you think that Revelation 11:19 is making reference to the ark being with God?—Scott

reply: Jeremiah 3:16 prophesies: “And it shall come to pass…they shall say no more, the ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.”

The setting of Jeremiah’s prophecy about the ark is during the millennial reign of Jesus Christ. We know this because the next verse (v 17) describes the millennium:

“At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it.”

Consequently, Jeremiah 3:16-17 does not tell us whether there will be an ark of the covenant prior to the millennium or not.

Furthermore, we don’t know whether the ark in heaven mentioned in Revelation 11:19 is the physical Ark of the Covenant that used to be on earth, or whether it is a heavenly ark of which the earthly ark was a symbol.

Personally, I tend to think the Ark of the Covenant will not be found or rebuilt. How-ever, I’m not sure that I’m right on this.

[ bible studies ]I listen to “Politics and Religion” every day possible and support it with a monthly pledge. We go to hear Irvin Baxter in person if in driving distance and have purchased most of his Bible study material. About three or four years ago we started using his material to teach Endtime Bible stud-ies. In one Bible study, three were baptized and two received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. One of those is now teaching Bible studies. Two more have been baptized and have received the Holy Ghost. We are now helping teach their families.

reply: First of all, God does not already have a wife. He origi-nally intended for Israel to be His wife, but he put her away be-cause she committed whoredom.

Now He has turned to the Gentiles to take out a bride for his name’s sake. Referring to the church as the bride of Christ and also as the body of Christ has to be understood in spiritual terms. Can the millions of Christians individually be the bride of Christ, as we tend to think of it? Of course not. He said that Americans should be prepared for hundreds of cities to be destroyed by the Chinese. General Zhu added that his views do not represent official Chinese policy and he was not anticipating a war with the US. The Chinese government insists it would not be the first to unleash its nuclear firepower in spite of General Zhu Chenghu’s remarks, but US experts interpreted Zhu’s comments as a tacit warning by Beijing to Washington.

The clas-sified plans, developed at Northern Command headquarters, outline a variety of possible roles for quick-reaction forces estimated at as many as 3,000 ground troops per attack. The war plans represent a historic shift for the Pentagon, which has been reluctant to become involved in domes-tic operations. Civil liberties groups warn that the military’s expanded involvement in homeland de-fense could come up against the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which restricts the use of troops in domestic law enforcement.

Meanwhile, mainland China is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the “Anti-Japanese” and “Anti-Fascist” world war with a “reunification declaration” urging compa-triots to oppose Taiwan independence forces.

Some question whether that war has arrived, with fighting dragging on in Afghanistan and Iraq. Some are saying that with this war on terrorism, they feel like we are in a world war right now. On August 22, in Salt Lake City, President George Bush compared the war on terrorism to World Wars I and II. CBS news characterized the War on Terror as a World War that is fundamentally bipolar: America against Al Qaeda, but involving dozens of nations and billions of people.

SHARON: George, I want to bring peace to the Middle East. I believe I am the only Israeli leader that can do it. But I need your help.

BUSH: Well, Arik, what do you have in

mind? Do you have a plan? Actually, that’s a foolish question. You always have a plan. So… tell me about it.

SHARON: You know that Israel does not have a peace partner. Even Abbas keeps talk-ing about returning four million Palestinian refugees to Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem. We know that would spell the end of the Jewish state, and they know that. Still they blindly repeat their impossible demands. The simple fact is - we don’t have a partner

with whom we can make peace.BUSH: I see your point, Arik, but your

people won’t be able to resist the continual terrorist attacks and suicide bombings for-ever. If there is no hope at the end of the tunnel, even the endurance of the Israeli people will begin to deteriorate. So, what’s the alternative?

SHARON: George, I’ve been considering every possibility. First - what is the best deal Israel can hope to get? Next - what could the

international community swallow, and what will the U.S. support? If we can determine these things, then I think Is-rael can unilaterally move toward that solution, with or without Palestinian participation.

BUSH: I understand what you are saying. Since the U.S. is the world’s only superpower and since we have the veto on the UN Security Council, we could take the bull by the horns and solve this problem once and for all —with or without the Palestinians. The key to winning the support of the interna-tional community is that the deal will have to be as fair as possible for both sides. So, how do we do it?

SHARON: There are four issues that are the main sticking points: One —the right of return for Palestinian refugees, Two—the final borders be-tween us and the Palestinians, Three —the status of Jerusalem, and, Four —control of the Temple Mount.

If you and I can agree on a solution to these four things and then sell that solution to the international communi-ty, we can implement it—whether the Palestinians buy into it or not. They will have to go along to some degree since they can’t exist without the sup-port of the international community.

BUSH: I see where you’re going, but this is a tall order.

SHARON: As you can see, it’s re-ally pretty simple. It’s just not easy. If it were easy, it would have been done a long time ago. George, I think it all boils down to whether or not you and I have the guts to do it!

BUSH: I’ve been accused of a lot of things, but a lack of backbone has never been one of them. How do we proceed?

SHARON: The first thing we have

to do is determine an acceptable solu-tion for each of the four main issues. Let’s take them one at a time.

1. the right of return for palestian refugees to israel proper

SHARON: Everybody knows that Israel cannot accept Palestinians back within her borders. It would be nation-al suicide. However, we have no objec-tion to refugees returning to the newly created Palestinian state. So, we will support the right of return, but only

to the Palestinian controlled territory —not to Israel.

BUSH: It’s a no-brainer. Any sen-sible person would understand the ne-cessity of this position. I’m with you completely on this issue.

SHARON: Good. I believe the sec-ond issue is pretty clear as well.

2. the final borders between israel and the palestinians

SHARON: You know, George, it’s going to be impossible for us to move the inhabitants of such major settle-ments as Ma’aleh Adumim, Har Homa and the Gush Etzion bloc. All of them are relatively close to Jerusalem. And let me remind you, no one was living on those lands when we captured that territory in the 1967 War. So, we didn’t take anyone’s home.

BUSH: Arik, you know that this is going to be a major problem with the Palestinians. Furthermore, UN Resolu-tions 242 & 338 call for Israel to trade land for peace. Consequently, most of the international community contends that it is illegal for Israel to keep one inch of the territory captured in the Six Days War.

SHARON: Neither of those resolu-tions say that we have to give back all of the land. They simply say that we should trade land for peace. If you’ll remember George, we negotiated hard with the U.S. back then because we had no intentions of surrendering Jerusa-lem once it was in our hands.

BUSH: Of course, I remember. I’m simply saying that we’re going to have a fight on our hands.

SHARON: I’ve got an idea that may help on this point. Why don’t you give me a private letter acknowledging that it will not be possible for Israel to

withdraw from the areas where heavy Jewish populations exist? Then I will leak the letter to the press. Of course, the Palestinians will scream to high heaven at first, but, over time, they’ll get use to the idea.

BUSH: You’re asking me to stick my neck out pretty far, Arik.

SHARON: Do you realize what you’re asking me to do? You’re asking me to withdraw from land that was specifically promised to Israel by God through our father Abraham. The op-position of the religious faction in Is-

rael is going to be vicious, and could even become violent. Remember, they killed Rabin when he moved to withdraw from part of the biblical Promised Land.

BUSH: You’re right. You could be in real danger. I guess a letter is the least that I can do.

SHARON: While you’re writing it, why don’t you just include the first point con-cerning the refugees as well? When the Pal-estinians and the world community see that we have the backing of the world’s only su-per power on these issues, they will realize that confrontation is futile.

BUSH: Okay, you can count on me. You’ll receive your letter soon.

3. the status of jerusalemBUSH: Well Arik, that takes care of the

easy issues. Now, what are we going to do about Jerusalem?

SHARON: George, no one wants to face the truth on this issue, and there are some things we just can’t say publicly. But you know and I know that Jerusalem is not men-tioned one time in the Koran. It’s mentioned 700 times in our Jewish Bible.

BUSH: Really! I guess I didn’t realize that.

SHARON: Yes, and furthermore, the Ar-abs only want Jerusalem because they know that it means so much to us. Jerusalem has always been our capital, and it contains our number one holy site. You should have seen Jerusalem before Jews started going back there at the beginning of the twentieth cen-tury. The Arab population in Jerusalem was only 20,000 at that time.

George, the Muslims have their number one holy site in Mecca, and they have their number two holy site in Medina. They only claim Jerusalem as their number three holy site. Yet, we Jews can’t even pray at our num-ber one holy site, the place of our First and Second Temples, without being arrested.

BUSH: We’ve got problems with more

than the Palestinians on this issue. You know that the United Nations still claims authority over Jerusalem. That’s the reason they con-tinue to refuse recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

SHARON: Nobody knows that bet-ter than we do! We are the only nation on earth that the UN refuses to recognize its capital. That’s the reason all the nations of the world insist on locating their embassies to Israel in Tel Aviv, even though our seat of government is in Jerusalem. By the way George, didn’t you promise to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem the first day of your inauguration?

BUSH: Yes Arik. I did that. But do you realize how much trouble I would cause if I made that move right now? The timing has just not been right, but I’m looking forward to the time when I can do that.

So how do we deal with Jerusalem?SHARON: The first step of the “Road-

map for Peace” requires the Palestinians to disarm and dismantle all terrorist entities such as Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. Mah-moud Abbas is not going to do that. He can’t do it without triggering a civil war. Further-more, we don’t believe he really wants to do

it. As long as the terrorist organizations ex-ist, he can play the violence card, but blame it on somebody else.

We made it crystal clear, when we accepted the Roadmap, that we would not fulfill step two of the agreement unless the Palestinians took step one. Furthermore, we will not sur-render control of Jerusalem under any con-dition. This has been our capital since the days of King David, and it has never been the capital of the Palestinians.

BUSH: But do you plan to live in a per-petual state of war just because the Pales-tinians refuse to disarm and dismantle the terrorist organizations? Can Israel hold up under those circumstances?

SHARON: The answer again will be uni-

lateralism. Since we don’t have a peace part-ner who can deliver on agreements that he makes, we will simply move toward a fair solution, implementing it unilaterally. As long as we have your support and hopefully the support of the international community, the Palestinians will have no choice but to go along.

BUSH: But Arik, you know the terrorist attacks will continue. How are you going to deal with that?

SHARON: We plan to build a security wall that will act as a barrier between the Palestin-ians and Israel. History has shown that we cannot co-exist with the Palestinians. We’ve been fighting with these people for the last 3,500 years.

BUSH: You intend to build a wall the entire length of Israel between you and the Palestinians?

SHARON: Absolutely. Someone has to stop the violence. I have concluded that this is the only way. It has been proven that we cannot agree on a solution to our conflict. Israel and the Palestinians are like a couple locked into an ill-fated marriage. We simply have irreconcilable differences. So we are going to divorce them, whether they want it

or not. Then we are going to put a restrain-ing order against them so that they can’t hurt us any more.

BUSH: So that’s what the planned security wall is all about?

SHARON: Exactly. We have to protect our people. We will build the wall, putting the Pal-estinians on one side and Israelis on the other.

BUSH: Do you think we can get the inter-national community to accept this solution?

SHARON: I’m not sure. However, even if they don’t, the United States can run in-terference for us. As long as you have the veto at the UN and as long as the U.S. is the world’s most powerful military force, there won’t be anything the world community can do about it.

BUSH: There will be many challenges to doing what you are suggesting. However, nobody else even has a plan. You have really thought all this out, haven’t you Arik?

SHARON: Mr. President, I have no choice. My future existence and that of my nation depend upon it.

4. Control of the temple mountBUSH: Do you realize the New Testament

prophesies that the apocalyptic Battle of Arma-geddon will be fought over the Temple Mount?

SHARON: That’s not just in the New Testament. It’s in the Old Testament as well. What’s your point?

BUSH: I’m simply saying that we had bet-ter be careful what we do on this issue. We certainly don’t want to go down in history as the men who created the conditions that plunged the world into Armageddon. Do you know what I’m saying?

SHARON: When you’re the prime minis-ter of Israel, everything you do has the po-tential of throwing the world into Armaged-don. I guess it just goes with the territory.

BUSH: So what are we going to do with the thirty-five acres that someday will blow up the world?

SHARON: Let’s go back to our original premise. If we can formulate a solution that is perceived by the world community to be fair, then we can implement it unilaterally, even if the Palestinians and the right-wing Israelis object. What solution for the Temple Mount would be considered fair for all par-ties concerned?

BUSH: I’m listening.SHARON: The rebirth of the nation of

Israel will never be complete until we rebuild our temple on the Temple Mount. If we dis-turb the Dome of the Rock or the Al Aksa Mosque it will trigger World War III. How-ever, I think there’s a way to “have our cake and eat it too.”

that the true site of the First and Second Temples was north of the Dome of the Rock.

BUSH: Are you telling me that Israel could build her Third Temple to the north of the Dome without disturbing the Muslim holy places?

SHARON: Exactly! We could build our temple, sharing the Temple Mount with the Muslims. If you will remember, President Clinton proposed the sharing of the Temple Mount during the Camp David negotiations in 2000.

BUSH: But wouldn’t this create a sure flashpoint for future problems? Could Jews and Arabs actually share the same thirty-five acres without killing each other?

SHARON: I don’t agree with Ehud Barak on very many things, but he did offer an interesting suggestion when this was being discussed back at Camp David. He purposed that the Temple Mount be placed under the authority of a United Nations peacekeeping force.

BUSH: Arik, this just might work! Then the newly built Jewish temple could indeed become a house of prayer for all nations. I like it!

SHARON: Well, I don’t know whether I like it or not, but it may be the only thing that could possibly work.

BUSH: Arik, this is a brilliant strategy you have put together! This is the first peace strategy for the Middle East that I actually believe might have a chance to succeed.

SHARON: Thank you, George. Strategy has been my specialty since Israel’s War of Independence in 1948. But after the 1973 Yom Kippur War, I decided it was time to move my skill from the military arena to the political. It does no good to win battles on the battlefield if you can’t make the victories permanent by reaching political solutions.

BUSH: So how do we proceed to imple-ment your strategy?

SHARON: It will be vitally important that we don’t disclose our plan. If the Arabs or the international community realize what we intend to do, they will move heaven and earth to block it.

Israel will grab the initiative. I intend to unilaterally withdraw our citizens from the Gaza Strip. Everyone knows that Israelis will not remain in Gaza once a final peace agree-ment is reached. Consequently, why not deal with it sooner, rather than later? This will re-move one of the main sources of continuing friction between Palestinians and Israelis. It will also take stress off of the Israeli Army. Not having to protect 8,000 Jewish settlers living in the midst of 1.3 million Palestinians will be a tremendous relief for us.

This unilateral withdrawal will gain the applause of the international community. The world will finally realize that I am truly a man of peace. I really think this move could change the opinion of the international community toward me and toward Israel.

While we are withdrawing from Gaza, we will be building the planned security wall as fast as we can. The international commu-nity will not like it, since we will be taking in Jewish population centers that lie in former Arab-held territory. But they will be very reluctant to object too forcibly for fear that Israel will call a halt to the Gazan disengage-ment.

BUSH: What happens after the Gazan disengagement is completed? This may well provide an opportunity for the Quartet to get the “Roadmap for Peace” back on track.

SHARON: I’m sure the international community will try to revitalize the Road-map. However, I don’t think the Palestin-ians will ever disarm Hamas and the Al Aksa Brigade. If we can convince the Quartet to collaborate with Israel to reach peace uni-laterally, there will be very little the Palestin-ians can do about it. Once our security wall is completed, terrorist attacks against Israel will become very difficult.

George, do you think you and Tony Blair can convince the world community to go along with this strategy?

BUSH: I think the world community is more open to cooperation in solving the Middle East problem than ever before. The proliferation of terrorism has provided an urgency that has never previously existed.

SHARON: If you can protect my back with the U.S. veto at the UN and if you will use your influence to obtain the cooperation of the international community, I believe that, between the two of us, we can succeed. If we don’t act now, this conflict will drag on another fifty years. You and I are both men of action. I believe destiny has brought us to power for this historic time. We can do this!

BUSH: I’m with you. Let’s roll!

I was In washIngton d.c. last saturday evenIng, walking down Pennsylva-nia Avenue past the White House. In the next block is the World Bank, and next

to it, the International Monetary Fund headquarters. In the context of D.C.’s sacred American history, I suddenly wondered why two non-American institutions as the World Bank and the IMF were positioned nearest the White House.

Suddenly, my mind was conjuring the image of a book I read in 1973, entitled The Day the Dollar Dies by Willard Cantelon.

I met the author in 1971, a distin-guished gentleman, a world traveler, and a student of international mon-ey. He was also an avid student of Bible prophecy. His new book, The Day the Dollar Dies spoke in shocking terms of the creation of an Interna-tional Monetary Fund and a World Bank which, he said, would hasten the day when national currencies would give way to a global monetary system, and ultimately the “Mark of the Beast” system mentioned in the book of Revelation.

The International Monetary Fund, or IMF, was created at a pre-United Nations conference held in Bret-ton Woods, New Hampshire in July, 1944. It came into existence on De-cember 27, 1945 (only two months after the UN was born on October 24), and was established to promote international monetary cooperation.

Following the terrifying “Great Depression,” the world was yearning for assurances that another financial

collapse would not occur. Among the purposes for the creation of the IMF was to ensure the stability of the international monetary system. According to the Articles of Agree-ment, by which the IMF was estab-lished, it would “assist in the estab-lishment of a multilateral system of payments”.

I heard Cantelon lecture in those days, only two years after the IMF, in 1969, created an instrument called “Special Drawing Rights” or SDRs. Cantelon was quite alarmed at the essence of SDRs, because for the first time in history, monetary ex-changes were being made without currencies.

The two strongest currencies of that day were 1. Gold, and 2. the U.S. Dollar. Various international currencies often fluctuated wildly in value, creating complex currency exchange.

Special Drawing Rights were made available by the International Mon-etary Fund to facilitate the exchange of foreign currencies with fluctuat-ing values. SDRs became something like a precursor to paperless curren-cies. SDRs set a precedent. Mone-tary exchanges were being conducted without money. The long-standing “Gold Standard” from the past gave way to a paperless exchange system that would only evolve further and further until almost no international transactions at all would be conduct-ed in real currencies.

The Bretton Woods system col-lapsed after the U.S. Federal Gov-ernment defaulted in 1971. Since that time, fiat currencies have been

entirely irredeemable for precious metals.

Ironically, the IMF is now one of the world’s largest holders of real gold – 3,217 metric TONS worth $45 Billion! When the Bretton Woods system collapsed, the IMF required participating countries to contribute their payments in real gold. As a re-sult, the IMF has sucked-up most of the world’s gold, leaving the world without the ability to conduct busi-ness on a gold standard.

Coincidentally, while rumors cir-culated that most of the gold in Fort Knox, Kentucky had been hauled off, the U.S. Mint stopped printing “Legal Tender” notes and “Silver Certificates” (redeemable for metal-lic silver). The U.S. Treasury began printing “Federal Reserve Notes,” which is generally referred to as “fiat” money – with its value defined by the government, not by the value of its metal base. The U.S. Mint ad-mits that Fort Knox now holds only 147.3 million ounces of gold, down

from a high of 649.6 million ounces of gold in 1941. The gold holdings have not been audited since the 1950s. Many be-lieve there are no longer any major gold reserves in Fort Knox.

In the light of Bible prophecy, we can see where these circumstances lead: a cashless society operating on an interna-tional number system.

Gary Allen, in a 1971 book entitled, None Dare Call It Conspiracy described the evolution of the international bank-ing system. From the middle ages, when mercenary “knights” conducted wars for kings and kingdoms, a primitive bank-ing system was conceived where money was carried from country to country by armed soldiers. Meanwhile, paper cur-rency, representing gold and silver “in reserve” circulated by mail carriers. The paper currencies allowed the wealthy to do business while their actual gold, silver and precious holdings were kept “in re-serve” by well-known, well-trusted busi-nessmen who charged a fee for handling their “fiat” payment transactions.

Forbes magazine describes Meyer Am-schel Rothschild, (1744-1812) as one of the top twenty most influential business-men of all times. Rothschild is known as the “Father of Modern Banking”. Roth-schild institutionalized the “reserve” sys-tem of money, and became the first truly international banker. His five sons estab-lished major international banks in Lon-don, Vienna, Paris, Naples and Frankfurt, and the Rothschild name is forever linked with the world money system.

Today, the World Bank and the Inter-national Monetary Fund operate on an international banking infrastructure that has evolved from the early days of the Rothschilds. The IMF is comprised of 183 member nations, scarcely short of the full 191 UN memberships.

More significantly, both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are arms of the United Nations, under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

The symbiotic relationship between the United Nations and the UN Economic and Social Council, and by extension, the World Bank and the International Mon-etary Fund, demonstrates the power of world government over our future mon-ey system.

As global governance rapidly takes precedence over nationalistic economic policies, it is easy to see how the United

Nations will have the final say over in-ternational currencies.

In much the same way that the “Spe-cial Drawing Rights” (SDRs) in 1969 was used to homogenize international currencies, the IMF of the near future is likely to define the terms for interna-tional currencies to dissolve into a single global monetary unit.

That newly defined global monetary unit will easily transpose into a cashless, paperless, computerized, individualized, neo-SDR!

In the New World Monetary Order, the international “currency” will be the equivalent of a Special Drawing Right that is likely to be based on a biometric RFID (Radio Frequency ID) chip im-planted in the human body and identifi-able by a number system.

World Government will own the World Money System at that time. Through the UN Economic and Social Council, which presides over the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and a whole organization of other financial entities, the New World Order will be able to authoritatively implement and enforce the terms of a new inter-national monetary system, regardless of the objections or participation (or non-participation) of the world’s countries.

Dr. Ralph Barton Perry of Harvard once said, “One world government is in the making. Whether we like it or not, we are moving toward a one-world gov-ernment.”

In order for an international currency to succeed, nation-states will necessar-ily yield their monetary policies to the

United Nations. All nation-states will be forced to participate in an international monetary system established on a global identification protocol.

That fact appears even more signifi-cant in the light of the recent U.S. leg-islation that mandates the consolidation of all states’ identification systems into a federally defined system. By force of the REAL ID ACT, passed by the US Congress in May, 2005 and scheduled for implementation in May of 2008, the U.S. will effectively require every Ameri-can citizen to carry a national identifica-tion number (a state-issued license with a federal database).

Observers have already concluded that the implications of REAL ID are onerous and burdensome. Without a REAL ID, one cannot drive legally, enter a federal building, collect Social Security, access a government service, or do busi-ness with a bank or an airline. Arguably, it could be nearly impossible to LIVE without a REAL ID.

This comes breath-takingly close to the same terms of the biblical “mark of the beast.” No man can buy or sell without that mark. With the national (REAL) ID scheduled for introduction May, 2008, people may not be able to buy or sell without it.

Once the international institutions redefine international currencies by a single standard, and set in order a New World Money System based on a com-puterized biometric number system, the good-old American dollar will be dead, along with every other national currency around the world.

Is our national ID going to evolve into the mark of the beast? It will all become very plain the day the dollar dies.

American support, however, comes from within certain political and economic circles, beefed-up by a wide range of academic and lobbying interests. Even in this context, not all is at it seems.

In simplistic terms, those who walk the halls of political and economic power are not always in agreement as to how this big idea is to be managed, nor the ultimate range of its influence.

ameriCan sentiments ConfliCtColonel Thomas McShane—a director at the U.S. Army War College—wrote a chapter in the U.S. Army War College Guide to National Security Policy and Strategy titled “International Law and the New World Order: Redefin-ing Sovereignty,” which emphasized one element of this dichotomy. McShane wrote: “Americans traditionally respect and support international law and have in fact been in-strumental in its development for more than a century. At the same time, they become frustrated when international law restrains or limits the pursuit of national interests.”

death of the old world orderWhen the fires of World War I spread across the European continent, American academ-ic leadership called for a new global order. Nicholas Murray Butler, the President of Columbia University during the Great War, adamantly called for an internationally ar-ranged political system. Speaking to the Union League of Philadelphia on Novem-ber 27, 1915, Butler explained his view of the war and its political aftermath in lan-guage that is strangely reminiscent to the American political landscape of the early 1990’s.

“The old world order changed when this war-storm broke. The old international or-der passed away as suddenly, as unexpected-ly, and as completely as if it had been wiped out by a gigantic flood, by a great tempest, or by a volcanic eruption. The old world or-der died with the setting of that day’s sun and new world order is being born while I speak…”

What did Butler’s “new world order” look like? In published speeches, Butler’s vision included the creation of a unionized Europe, a world judicial and police compo-nent, and the formation of a federated world government.

Keep in mind, Butler’s calling for a “new world order” took place almost one hundred years ago.

global federalism Highlighting the U.S. role in the post-World

War I international system, Clarence K. Streit —one of the first to publish a comprehensive plan for a global “Fed-eral Union,” including the amalgamat-ing of America with Britain in a “Union of Democracies” — wrote in his book Union Now With Britain, “…in World War I the American people broadened the aim of the democratic side from the rights of small nations to the establish-ment of world government. It is note-worthy that an American led in making each of the four experiments in world government that followed: Woodrow Wilson, the League of Nations; Sam-uel Gompers, the International Labor Organization; Elihu Root, the World Court; and Owen Young, the World Bank.” [Note: Young’s World Bank is the Bank for International Settlements, the central bank for the world’s central bankers.]

ameriCan-british amalgamationStreit, a correspondent for the New York Times and aide to the U.S. mission at the Versailles Peace Conference, never hid the fact that America rejected its own creation — the League of Nations. However, with Britain’s participation in the world body, Streit recognized that the two nations were tightly linked, even as Wilson’s League failed in America. Writing of this Atlantic connection, Streit boasted, “No others have done so much to bring about world government as we Americans and British have.”

Wilson’s League of Nations and its downfall amply reflects America’s love-hate relationship with global gover-nance.

Colonel McShane writes, “Revolu-tionary efforts to create a world gov-ernment fell short — the League of Nations was a start, but not a sufficient one. President Wilson’s vision for the postwar order clashed with the national interests of the allies and frustrated ef-fective, unified action. The Versailles Treaty became a compromise. Compli-cating matters, Wilson failed to persuade the American public or the U.S. Senate to ratify the treaty creating the League of Nations; and without American par-ticipation, the League proved too weak to enforce Wilson’s vision of collective security…Wilson’s vision would be re-vived in 1945 and again in 1990 with relatively greater success.”

With World War II and the demise of the League, a new set of American-led op-

tions for global management was initiated.

1942 terms of global governanCeIn 1942, the Brookings Institute – a leading U.S. policy organization – pub-lished its report Peace Plans and American Choices, which helped fuel the debate about America’s role in the next “world order.” Some of the ideas that Brook-ings proposed, with both pro-and-con arguments, are listed below. Do any of these propositions sound familiar?

< The concept of American mastery over world affairs, which assumed “a frequent, vigilant, and aggressive use of power to maintain world order” in a “form of independent internationalism.”< A British-American alliance in which both nations would share mastery over world affairs. < An Anglo-American Federal Union, bringing together the U.S., Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa into a world order matrix. < A Union of Democracies, which would form a larger global governance net containing all the democratic nations of western and northern Europe. < Closer cooperation with the United Nations. Remember, this report was written well before the formal unveiling of the UN. According to the Brookings report, “Here we have already a real association of nations, a sound basis from which the ultimate world order will evolve.” < The idea of forming regional po-litical-economic national blocks, such as the modern-day European Union, a Western-hemisphere block, and a uni-fied Asian regional system.

During World War II, other leading U.S. policy groups, such as the Council on For-eign Relations, reviewed and forwarded similar studies. In fact, the Council on Foreign Relations, working hand-in-glove with the U.S. State Department under the Roosevelt Administration, was instrumen-tal in the creation of the United Nations.

ameriCans Create the international orderLikewise, key American personalities played active roles in advancing the new international order. Cordell Hull, the Secretary of State under Roosevelt, was so influential in establishing the per-

manency of the UN that the President dubbed him the “Father of the United Nations.”

Other Americans who were promi-nent in the UN’s early development included Wendell Willkie, a Republican Presidential candidate, and J.D. Rock-efeller Jr. Under the President’s bless-ing, Willkie traveled around the world meeting with kings and rulers in order to raise awareness for a union of free nations. After returning from his trans-global trip, Willkie published his experi-ences in a book titled One World, which became a best-seller and played an im-portant part in energizing U.S. domestic interest in the United Nations.

In 1946, after the UN was officially chartered, Mr. Rockefeller—as part of America’s foremost business fam-ily—gifted $8,500,000 to ensure that UN headquarters would be built on U.S. soil.

These examples reflect only a tiny fraction of America’s involvement in the historical push for the United Na-tions-facilitated world order. Many other American businessmen and politicians could be added to the list.

other eXperiments ininternationalismWe should not forget America’s involve-ment in other experiments in interna-tionalism. During the Cold War, top ranking U.S. leaders were heavily in-volved in the “Atlantic ideal”—NATO, and the regrouping of Europe into today’s European Union. The Washing-ton-based Organization of American States, which is a UN-affiliated Western hemisphere unification body, was also guided by American hands. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund both have the U.S. to thank for their existence.

In more recent times, America has led the pack in structuring the World Trade Organization, NAFTA, and the attempted formation of other regional governance blocks such as the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).

gressively pursued UN empowerment through Operation Desert Storm. He sold that conflict as a United Nations collective security affair.

Notwithstanding Desert Storm’s UN affiliation, Bush, taking ultimate respon-sibility, wrote, “It is my decision – my decision to send these kids into battle, my decision that may affect the lives of the innocent. It is my decision to step back and let sanctions work. Or to move forward. And in my view, help establish the New World Order,” [January 13, 1991 diary entry].

That same month, in a personal letter to Mikhail Gorbachev concerning Bal-tic issues, Bush penned, “We have both talked of our desire for a new world order, and we both understand the im-portance of U.S.-Soviet cooperation to the achievement of that goal. I remain committed to that objective.”

A little over a year later at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, Gorbachev openly called for a “new world order” in which the UN would be empowered into a type of global government.

Regionally, President Bush Sr. launched his Enterprise for the Ameri-cas Initiative on June 27th, 1990. Today this initiative is known as the Free Trade Area of the Americas, a broad econom-ic, security, and political agenda which aims to integrate the Western Hemi-sphere into a regional block not unlike the European Union. [Note: because of South American objections, the FTAA process is currently at a standstill; how-ever, other stepping-stone arrangements to integration are still moving forward.]

2. Democrat President Bill Clinton and his administration attempted to institute scores of sweeping United Nations treaties, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child. One particular treaty, the Convention on Biological Di-versity, was brought into play by a spe-cial Presidential Council, even though America’s elected officials refused to ratify it. Clinton’s international interests, however, went beyond UN treaties.

When the Clinton administration’s Deputy Secretary of State, Strobe Talbott – a good friend and old-time college roommate of the President – received the World Federalist Associ-ation’s 1993 Global Governance award, President Clinton sent a personal let-ter of congratulations and wished the WFA “future success.” When the WFA

Global Governance Award was handed out in 1999, First Lady Hillary Clinton sent a special video message to then recipient Walter Cronkite during the WFA awards ceremony. “Tonight,” she explained, “we honor you for fighting for the ‘way it could be’.” During his acceptance speech, Cronkite explained, “Today we must develop federal struc-tures on a global level. We need a system of enforceable world law – a democratic federal world government – to deal with world problems.”

The WFA, now known as Citizens for Global Solutions, was the largest pro-world government advocacy group in the United States. Deputy Secretary Talbott received the WFA’s award be-cause of his 1992 Time article which openly promoted world government; and Cronkite was chosen because he publicly professed his desire for world government in his book, A Reporter’s Life.

Regionally speaking, Clinton pursued his predecessor’s hemispheric integra-tion policy, demonstrating that it doesn’t matter if the leadership is Democrat or Republican, the agenda must go on.

3. Republican President George W. Bush, in one of his first orders of business, attended the Quebec Summit of the Americas in April, 2001, an FTAA steer-ing event. Since then, his administration has worked hard on the continuing pro-cess of regional integration.

Beyond hemispheric unification, President Bush’s most interesting world affairs legacy is his administration’s link to the Project for a New American Cen-tury (PNAC). Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and Richard Perle have all been members of this controversial organization, and PNAC strategies can be discerned throughout Bush’s foreign policy programs.

what makes pnaC Controversial?In the 1942 Brookings document cited earlier, one of the options for a global system was “American mastery” – the idea of using America’s economic and military clout to force the world into ac-cepting U.S. global dominance. PNAC follows this line of thinking: America, asserting its position of power, should become the de facto international police force. Essentially, this is world govern-ment enforced by a single country. The implications are enormous.

But “world order” under this admin-

istration includes more than the “mas-tery” approach. After an almost twenty year absence, this administration has returned America to UNESCO – the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Speaking at the UNESCO Roundtable of Ministers on October 3rd, 2003, Bush’s Secretary of Education, Rod Paige, stated that “…we must make education a universal reality. Our governments have entrusted us with the responsibility of preparing our children to become citizens of the world.”

World citizenship fits UNESCO’s purposes. Julian Huxley, the first Director General of UNESCO, wrote in his book UNESCO: Its Purpose and its Philosophy,

“Specifically, in its [UNESCO’s] edu-cational program it can stress the ulti-mate need for world political unity and familiarize all peoples with the implica-tions of the transfer of full sovereignty from separate nations to a world orga-nization. But more generally, it can do a great deal to lay the foundations on which world political unity can later be built.”

All of this brings us around to an in-teresting observation. Whether you are personally for or against a new global order – in whatever form that may take – America’s contribution to this interna-tional ideal cannot be ignored. Colonel McShane, writing for the U.S. Army War College states,

“…The new world order…is real, and it is here to stay. The ties that bind the international community are strong and enduring, and international institutions enjoy unprecedented support and influ-ence. Perhaps the most amazing point of all is that American values and lead-ership were instrumental in creating this environment. We are reminded once again that we have to be careful what we wish for.”

IRVIN I notice in your book that you came down in favor of a National ID number or card. I think you called it Homeland ID. We have been generally opposed to a National ID card, ID number, because of its severe ramifications.

You know we now have a National ID which was passed into law May 11th when President Bush signed the Real ID Act. They opted for the name Real ID trying to avoid National ID and the knee jerk re-action that produces.

Once that is enacted in 2008, the gov-ernment is going to have a database on every single one of us containing certain standard pieces of information. As long as the government is benign and generous and the kind of government we want, it is no problem.

But as soon as government becomes in-trusive or abusive, or as soon as you have an unscrupulous person take over the reigns of government, then this incred-ible controlling net that they have over ev-ery single person’s life becomes a horror. What do we do?

DENNISWell, I was hoping they were going to use my term–Homeland ID–but did not get quite so lucky. The idea of National ID—I tried not to use that term in the book just because there’s so much emo-tional baggage that has been attached to it. It is hard to mention it without conjur-ing up the idea of George Orwell and Big Brother.

I think it might not be as threatening as some people have made it out to be. All the Real ID Act says to the states is, “you maintain control of the information, you run the system, but just have a certain standard that you have to meet for a driv-er’s license. Let’s just make it uniform.”

Instead of having over 300 different types of driver’s licenses today, let’s have one standard so that a terrorist can not go to a state with the lowest standard and get a state’s driver’s license. Let’s just have a minimal level to meet.

IRVINDennis, don’t I remember reading in the Real ID Act that if the states do not link their database to the databases of the other 49 states they lose their federal funding?

DENNISYes. They would not be following the Real ID Act if they did not link together.

IRVINSo that means it is a National ID?

DENNISWell, the purpose for that was for Joe Ter-rorist—or not even a terrorist—but an-other criminal that uses Identity Theft as a way to live.

A lot of people think Identity Theft is just about financial fraud when it is about a whole host of criminal activities. It could be child sex predators, parents not paying child support who are on the run, crimi-nals on the lam, tax evaders, welfare fraud, or a whole host of criminals.

They will get an ID in one state and ride that for as long as possible. Once the po-lice get hot on their trail, they will go to another state and get a whole new identity. Sometimes they will make one up. Some-times they steal someone’s identity. You might get a knock on your door one night from the police.

If you can just jump around from state to state and get different driver’s licenses, there is a problem. The way to stop that is to be able to check another state’s data-base, to see if that person is already reg-istered.

IRVINBut doesn’t that, in fact, make it a National ID? You know, we play on words here. I know that “National ID” does produce a certain knee-jerk reaction, but the fact is that if you’re locked into a national data-base, it is a National ID!

DENNISI can see you’re determined to pin me down on that one.

IRVINWell, this is an issue, and you’re not the one who did it. As far as I know you did not write the bill, although you may have had some input into it. I still do not want to sidestep the issue - we either do have a National ID or we do not. I think we do.

DENNISWell, I definitely have to say that I have an interest in the issue since I’m one of the directors of the Coalition for Secure Driver’s License (which includes members of the 911 families).

Today we already have a National ID. It is called a driver’s license. And for the 99% of people who do not abuse the system, they’re using a National ID today. Really, the only place it is not being used is for the 1% who are criminals that take advantage of flaws in the system.

Let’s say there is no Real ID Act. (It still could be thrown out. States do not have to comply until 2008, and as we saw in 1996 when driver’s license reform was passed it was rolled back in 1998.) Even if it is not passed, you’re still going to be required to produce today’s driver’s licenses to get in federal buildings, get on an airplane, open a bank account, and so on.

The part that scares me a little more, (and I’m not one who usually gets too scared), is the idea that our movements can be tracked. It relates to a National ID, but at the same time it relates to other technologies like surveillance and RFID.

It is one thing to show who you are, it is another thing if the government knows where you are at any point in time and can trace your steps backwards.

IRVINThat is very quickly becoming a reality in the present day society.

DENNISVery much so. Take surveillance for in-stance. Surveillance started off in a very innocuous way - small cameras here and there in places like banks and convenience stores.

If you give up enough freedom you can acquire enough security. The most secure place in the world is probably in a padded cell all by yourself, but who wants to live there?


Then with 911 you have seen this grad-ual - well not really gradual - but speeding up accretion of the landscape just dotted with surveillance cameras. Major cities like Chicago, Boston, Washington are linking up surveillance cameras from schools, bus-ses, metros, public buildings, and bringing those into a central location where they can look at all the different feeds.

So you have these networks linked up. I can foresee Chicago being linked up with D.C. which will be linked up with Boston, etc., and it is going to be hard to go any-where without some camera recording it.

There are lots of examples where the public spoke out against these kinds of things and government listened. For in-stance, John Ashcroft tried to pass Patriot Act II or tried to write it behind closed doors without Congress. But someone leaked a copy of it to the Internet, and within a few hours everybody was swarm-ing on it. “Oh my, I can not believe John Ashcroft would do that!” It basically stopped Patriot Act II in its tracks.

IRVINYes, and I think that is a legitimate exam-ple. And I appreciate that activity. I think the big thing we’re trying to decide, “Do we want more security or do we want more freedom?” I think that’s the whole thrust of your book. Is there any way we can have security and freedom at the same time?

Patrick Henry faced this dilemma way back at the beginning of our nation. He said, “Is life so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?” If you give up enough freedom you can acquire enough security. The most secure place in the world is probably in a padded cell all by yourself, but who wants to live there?

At what level do we say, “Government, I do not want your protection, I do not need your protection, just leave me alone!”? How much is the American spirit of yes-teryear still alive in our present society?

Personally, I would be willing to take my chances with freedom, but I’m not sure I’m going to get that opportunity in the era that lies just ahead.

This is a prophecy-oriented program. There is this prophecy in the Bible that we’re very, very concerned about. It says there is coming a time when every person will have to have a mark or a number with-out which they cannot buy or sell.

Now, the dramatic thing is that this is a 2,000-year-old prophecy! But yet it has never been able to be executed until right now. That’s the reason books like yours

draw us like a magnet. It is because we see the potential with the Internet and with the computerization of society to have just this kind of a system that was proph-esied 2,000 years ago.

Now the danger—according to the prophecy— is that big government (actu-ally, global government) is going to end up using this for our good (in their opinion), but ultimately to weed out the rogue ele-ments; to weed out fundamentalists that they would say are threats to the peace of mankind.

So you’re probably going to have to take an oath of allegiance to the governmental system, or to some kind of global ethic. Otherwise, they’re going to say, “We’re sanctioning you economically. You can not have your number. You take this oath of allegiance or you can not have your number.”

The Bible says they are going to have to worship the world governmental system. So whether that’s an oath of allegiance or whether it is a religious act I cannot tell you for sure. Nevertheless, when we look at this National ID and we compare that to what the Bible prophesies, it appears we’re getting very, very close now!

That’s the reason we get concerned here on this program. I’m not asking you to take a religious stance whatsoever, but can you help us at all?

DENNISYes, I went to a Christian college, I’m very familiar with what the Bible has to say and I think there are definitely a lot of parallels you can talk about.

I certainly agree that there’s a potential for a system of control that is being put in place. Whether that control is for reli-gious purposes, political purposes, it is a system of control that is being developed and could be misused.

Look at drivers’ licenses today and how important they’ve become, even without mentioning Real ID. You can not get on a plane. You can not get into a federal build-ing. It is becoming much harder to func-tion in society without a driver’s license.

And of course there’s been importance placed on the Social Security Number.

Now you see it with RFID. It is becom-ing harder and harder not to have RFID control parts of our life. If you look at the tollbooths for instance, it used to be there would be one easy pass through the toll-booths. Now there are one or two lanes for cash. The rest are all RFID. And it is al-most like if you want to drive on the high-way, you need to have this RFID chip.

And then just this past weekend, Tom-my Thompson, who is the former Secre-tary of Health and Human Services for the President, George W. Bush, came out and suggested that all Americans be im-planted with a chip for medical purposes- the VeriChip. If you showed up at a hos-pital and you were unconscious and they did not have your records, the hospital could scan your arm and they could look up your hospital records.

Slowly, but surely, a system is being put into place that requires us to use technol-ogy to function as a member of society.

But then the question is how is that technology and that system going to be used? If you are someone who believes the mark of the beast (is coming), there is an infrastructure being put in place that could be used for those purposes.

If you go back to WWII and Pearl Har-bor, over a hundred thousand Japanese Americans, many of them citizens, were rounded up. If you look after 911 and what happened in the aftermath, you had about 800 foreign visitors, many of them legal immigrants rounded up. A very big difference, and just from that I would say that’s a very positive step.

But at the same time for the Muslim-Americans who are very good Americans and have a wonderful history here, are contributing to the economy, have done nothing wrong - in open society you know more about them, you do not have to fear them.

We are where we are today because peo-ple are so anonymous. We can not tell the difference between Johnny the terrorist and Johnny the faithful Muslim-American.

If you go back to the small village, though, where everyone knows every-body, you do not have that fear or need of using racial profiling, because we have enough information about people.

IRVINSo what you’re saying Dennis, is that if we know pretty much everything about everybody, then it is easier to pick out the scoundrels.

DENNIS: Exactly

IRVINI see your logic on that. Now when this goes sour is once your government goes sour.

DENNIS The only time it goes sour is when you have a terrorist who now isn’t just armed

with a small bomb, but he’s armed with a bomb with smallpox. Or he’s got a dirty bomb and he can take out 100,000 people rather than just a few hundred.

The real question is, “How is an open society in the future go-ing to allow freedom when you have those kinds of threats on the horizon as well?”

IRVINYou know that’s a terrible specter that all of us have to think about. We have a lot of examples in history: Adolph Hitler, Jo-seph Stalin, and many, many others.

What if someone of that ilk gained control of the levers of power either nationally or globally? What a heyday they could have with this!

They could know every book you ever read. They could know where you attend church, what your religion is. You know, the thing is endless. I really do not want to belabor the point un-necessarily.

When we’re looking at what we’re wrestling with right now, all of us have to go down these alleys. Because of the cameras that are everywhere, it is really coming to the point where you feel like Big Brother is watching almost 24 hours a day.

If that is really true, do we have to just say it is inevitable, let’s roll over and play dead, let’s try not to act like it is happening until they come and take us all away? Do we do that, or do we ask this question: “What in the world did we do before there was a Social Security Number?”

We’ve only had Social Security Numbers in this nation for what, fifty or sixty years? What did we do before we had Social Security Numbers? Is there no way to wind back the clock?

DENNISI would say that unfortunately, with our country being a data-base country, and because of the efficiencies of technology and information, our economy and great gains of productivity, there is no way to go back.

I think sometimes people think that if we can just get rid of the driver’s license and hide from the government, and keep the government inefficient as another check and balance, then we’ll be a lot safer.

I say that we should turn the technology around and use it against the government. Let’s put technology to all the databases so every time a person’s record is hit it is flagged and we can run numbers and look at audit trails and see if there is racial profiling going on.

Let’s put cameras and RFID in government offices so we can see what is going on in there. Let’s use it both ways, so we can track the comings and goings of our leaders and the meetings they have and who they meet with.

Let’s use technology to watch the government. Use it to our advantage rather that trying to turn back the clock and trying to hide.

IRVINIt would be great to have all of the conversations of George Bush on the Internet that he’s had during the first 5 years in office.

DENNISWell, I think you see hints of it. Take, for instance, Bob Wood-ward’s books. He gets conversations that are held at the highest levels of office that are in classified meetings. Yet, in no time, he’ll have a new book.

Right after the launching of the Iraq war, we knew what Colin Powell thought. We knew what Donald Rumsfeld thought. We knew the pressure that the Bush administration pushed on the Department of State. All of this information in the past would have been easily suppressed. But now, people are just digging and digging and digging. I think that’s just the first step that we’re going to see.

CALL-IN GUESTApart from the constitutional ramifications of the National ID, it seems to me that this is the season for an international data-base. President Bush has already spoken with Tony Blair about database sharing, as far as their National ID and our National ID goes.

I for one will engage in civil disobedience. I will not take any National ID, I do not care, let the chips fall where they may.

DENNISI definitely agree with the caller on the first point. This is only the first step. There have already been discussions among western countries of linking up databases just to help with the terrorism investigation.

There is an infrastructure that is being put in place that could be abused and certainly the religious perspective gives one view

of how it could be abused.

IRVINYou are telling it like it is. It does have the potential for abuse. The United Nations’ favorite weapon against countries is eco-nomic sanctions. It looks to me like its go-ing to affect individuals.

DENNISThere are large data brokers that are col-lecting information left from your elec-tronic footprints. They have much more information than the government could ever hope to have. Of course, you’ve seen government trying to access that informa-tion as well.

Katherine Albrecht definitely raises some concerns about uses of technology such as RFID. She is against shopping cards and grocery stores knowing what you’re buying.

For me it doesn’t really matter much if the local grocery store knows what kind of salad dressing I buy. That went on for hundreds of years, where you go in to your local grocer and they say, “Oh, your favorite vegetable is here. You’ve got to get it. We just got a fresh batch.”

So to me, I see a lot of benefits for RFID. For example, the supply chain, products being lost during shipping and things like that. It is all in technology. For me it is neutral. It is all about the how-to of supply, and how it is overseen and controlled.

IRVINYou know, Dennis, I love technology. Frankly, there are so many things that are so convenient.

DENNISLike the benefits of some laptop comput-ers. If your ministry could have more lap-tops, think what you could do.

IRVINYes, that’s exactly what we’re talking about here. I spend 8-10 hours a day on the In-ternet. I research continuously. I have this daily radio program we do. We write ar-ticles. We have a magazine, and the tech-nology is marvelous.

But then we’ve got this specter of this prophecy that says this is going to be abused in the future. I find myself asking if we could keep from “throwing the baby out with the bath water”.

Could we somehow find a way to con-trol this? For instance, could we pass a law

against keeping a person’s records over 30 days, or pass a law against keeping their records at all unless they specifically gave you permission to keep their records? Would that be too much to ask?

We criminalize everything else. We criminalize not wearing a seat belt. Would anybody have the courage to say look, this thing is going to kill us, it going to enslave us if we do not find a way to harness it.

Power is good. Fire is good in the fire-place. But in the middle of your living room, fire is a bad deal. I think this tech-nology has that potential.

As I read your book, (I discover that) we all wrestle with these same things. I love technology and I use it every day and it is a marvel. Yet, at the same time, it is scaring me.

DENNISThere certainly is room to look at legisla-tion and in an ironical way depend on the government to help keep things in check. If enough people are interested, there are

very specific and targeted privacy laws that already do a fairly good job for a number of things.

There is legislation against (or target-ing) the financial and the medical indus-try. And for the most part it is working pretty well.

I get back to a view the founding fathers espoused which is really this idea of pri-vacy relegated to someone’s home. Every man’s house is his castle. Let’s use security technology today to guard the house. Let’s use privacy technology so that everything that goes on within the perimeters of our house is for our eyes only.

This expectation that you (should) have privacy when you’re in public is a relatively new concept.

For me, the benefits of trust, knowing who your neighbor is, having a sense of accountability, having a sense of shame, is an important concept that (should) keep

people in check. All of those are impor-tant values.

It is almost like driving on the road today. You come to an intersection and there’s a stop sign, a 4-way stop sign, and other cars are coming. You want to trust that the other person is going to stop. You may not know 100% of the time that that person is going to stop, but you want to be 99.9% sure that you can trust that person.

I think that in a more open society that is what you’re going to be able to do.

IRVINDennis, I preach against homosexuality as a minister. I do not bash homosexuals, but I do believe that homosexual activity is sinful. That type of preaching is now outlawed in Canada. It also will probably be considered a crime under the Interna-tional Criminal Court Statutes.

They have four statutes, genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression. Genocide is de-scribed as causing physical harm or men-tal harm against a minority, whether it is religious, ethnic or whatever type of mi-nority it is.

So if I am speaking against homosexu-ality, I suppose that could be interpreted as causing mental harm against those people and drudging up a certain amount of prejudice against that lifestyle. At some point, in some nations right now it is criminal for me to do that. Already there have been people who have been fined pretty heftily in Canada and other nations of the world.

If this becomes a global ID system—which we all know it has the potential of becoming—at what point do I cross a border, and I slap my passport down there and they run my National ID and suddenly I’m in handcuffs and I’m on my way to the International Criminal Court?

I’m not sure (even though this may sound paranoid) that that is unrealistic at this point.

DENNISIt is definitely a concern, the chilling of free speech. I know where you’re coming from and as an advocate of open soci-ety, I’m completely for free speech, and expressing ideas and then letting the light of information, transparency and open-ness help decide whether people should give attention to those ideas or not. So, it is definitely a concern and the chilling of free speech is something we all should watch out for.

Iran seems determined to acquire nuclear capability. The War on Terror is spreading, not reaching a conclusion. We could be in the beginning of this war prophesied to kill 2 billion!

We Must Reach 2 Billion People ASAPthe questIon Is not: “Will one-third of mankind die?” Or “Will the confirmation of the covenant happen?” Or “Will there be a mark of the beast?” The only question is “When?” Can we sit by, allowing 2 billion of our fellowmen to enter eternity without a chance to be saved? We must reach these 2 billion people with the gospel of Jesus Christ as soon a possible! How much time do we have? We don’t know for sure. It could be one year. It could be three or four. But we know we don’t have long. We can’t accomplish a huge task like this alone. But together we can do it!
