Reefballs

A bunch of us went to the concrete plant last week and stripped and reformed 4 reefballs. This particular batch was somewhat better than previous pours. We made some alterations to the forms, talked with the plant foreman. We left some tools, all in an attempt to make it easy for Chaney Ent. to create quality reefballs

Club Fishing Trips

We are still looking for someone to step up and organize club trips. Club assets are growing so, a subsidized trip or two may become a possibility.

Tournament Fishing

I will still try to compile a list of local tournaments. When you hear of them, please let me know and I’ll get the word out as quickly as possible. I can put them on the calendar of events .

Rock the Choptank

Rock the Choptank fishing tournament will be held October 26th. Cost will be $65. Some of the proceeds will be contributed to the Clint Waters Scholarship Fund. There will also be a MSFC Calcutta. You can go to Rock the Choptank’s facebook page for more information. When I get my hands on a tournament flyer/ and or registration forms I get them out to all

Guest Speakers

Last month’s speaker was Buddy Foxwell, local bass fisherman. Buddy caught his first bass in West Virginia in 2006. He got hooked. Now he’s fishing 4-6 times a week and participates in tournaments up and down the East Coast. His presentation was interesting, animated, and alive with techniques and tips. Buddy threw away his spinning rod a while back and now uses predominantly bait casters. He likes skinny water and has success with buzz baits. He likes chartreus but uses black later in the day. He has a Ranger bass boat,(sits in the garage), but prefers his Tracker pan fish. The way he fishes he’s caught his fair share of snakeheads. He doesn’t seem to like them very much. ~”It can be gold plated and I wouldn’t eat it”. He believes the increased fishing for snakehead ( kayakers et al ) is making a difference. The numbers he is catching is going down. Back to Bass. If you fish shade with a little current and structure, it will eventually pay off. He retrieves his buzz baits fairly fast and on top. You can fish them is lily pads. He uses 30lb braid as it has them same diameter as 8 lb mono. His take is, that bass are becoming more aggressive as they are competing for the same food as snakeheads. Thanks Buddy.

We have no formal speaker in October, but Harry Miller is going to present a “where we were and where we are as a club” discussion

ASMFC Hearing

The ASMFC hearing has come and passed, as has the period for comment. Sometime by the first of next year we should know the new (if any) stripped bass regulation. I’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

Clint Waters Memorial Fishing Tournament

By all account, the Clint Waters Memorial Fishing Tournament was a huge success. Here’s a copy of the original tally sheet.

There we a 138 anglers participating. One of which is Mr. Corey Edsall

Folks, I’d like to introduce you to Corey Edsall. Corey, up to the tournament time was not a member of the Mid-Shore Fishing Club. He was one of the 138 anglers who participated. He had purchased one of our 50/50…mysterbag tickets and won over $400 in our 50/50. Corey, so very graciously donated the entire amount to our scholarship fund (The Clint Waters Memorial Scholarship). As most of you know we are in a partnership with the University of Maryland and we provide a $2500 scholarship per year, hopefully to a local student studying some sort of marine/environmental science. We, as a show of our appreciation has given Corey a 3 year membership in our organization and a 1 year patronage. Corey, your generosity is accepted. Folks, Corey has a Turf Management business…Edsall Turfmanagement. Please don’t hesitate to consider his services. His business card is presented in our Sponsor and Patron portion

Sponsors and Patrons

We would love to get more Sponsors and Patrons to join our club. Remember that any individual or business can join. Businesses need not be associated with the marine or fishing industry. Any business can become a sponsor or a patron of our club. We all know people and businesses that we do business with that might have an interest in supporting our club. So the next time you talk with them see if they might do so.

The next pages are dedicated to our sponsor and Patrons who want us to succeed. Please support them.

Patronages and Sponsorships are a yearly endeavor and current participation will expire Dec. 31st. We hope current folks will re-up and more folks will join our efforts.
