    HOUR 1

The Beatles – I’m Happy Just To Dance With You (Lennon &

    McCartney) – AHDN

  • Written for George by John. Flip of “I’ll Cry Instead“ in US. Musicians:

George Harrison – lead vocal, lead guitar; John Lennon – backing vocal, rhythm guitar; Paul McCartney – backing vocal, bass guitar; Ringo Starr – drums,

loose-skinned Arabian bongo drum This was completed in four takes at their first-ever Sunday session. It was a bit of a

formula song, said Paul. We knew that in E if you went to an A-flat minor, you could always make a song with those chords; that change pretty much always excited you. This

is one of these. We wouldn’t have actually wanted to sing it though, because it was a bit… The ones that pandered to the fans in truth were our least favorite songs but they

were good. They were good for the time. Lead vocal George

    HOUR 2

The Beatles – Doctor Robert – Revolver

Recorded April 17, 1966 John said it was about himself as he quote “carried all the pills on tour in the early days” unquote. Also could be a bit about famous New York doctor to the

stars (Charles Roberts)…As Paul said “the man who kept New York high” Musicians:

John Lennon – lead vocal, harmonium, maracas; Paul McCartney – harmony vocal, bass guitar; George Harrison – lead guitar; Ringo Starr – drums

The Beatles – I’ll Cry Instead – AHDN Released as a single in the US on July 20th 1964 got to only #25…not on Beatles 1 John say’s that he wrote it for a AHDN but director Dick Lester didn’t like it and

replaced it with “Can’t Buy Me Love”. Musicians:

  • John Lennon – joint lead vocal, acoustic rhythm guitar; Paul McCartney – joint lead vocal, bass guitar; George Harrison – lead guitar; Ringo Starr – drums,

tambourine This was done in two sections. They originally tried recording the whole thing in one go but it proved to be too difficult, so they spliced the ending on at 1:44. Interestingly, the

British version didn’t include the splice, but the Americans wanted to release it as a single, so they stuck it on the end to make it a little bit longer. This version also appears

on the American A Hard Day’s Night LP. (But Americans can hear the British version on the Something New LP.)

The song was unceremoniously dumped from the movie after Dick Lester chose a repeat of Can’t Buy Me Love instead. Lead vocal John and Paul

Musicians: John Lennon – lead vocal, rhythm guitar; Paul McCartney – backing vocal, bass

guitar; George Harrison – backing vocal, lead guitar; Ringo Starr – drums, tambourine

John nicked the first two lines from the Elvis Presley hit Baby Let’s Play House – the bit where he goes I’d rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man. But

Elvis’ early Sun sessions were little known at the time, and his lift went unnoticed Lead vocal John

The Beatles - The Ballad Of John And Yoko – Past Masters

and My Monkey - The Beatles Recorded June 27th 1968

Written about me and Yoko sez John: “ everybody seemed paranoid at the time except us, who were in the glow of love“. John also said “Fat’s Domino did a

  • Musicians: John Lennon – lead vocal, lead guitar, percussion; Paul McCartney – backing

vocal, bass guitar, percussion; George Harrison – backing vocal, rhythm guitar, percussion; Ringo Starr – drums

The ‘monkey’ in the title refers to Yoko Ono. John said: ‘Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey’ was just a nice little line that I made into a song. It was about me and Yoko. Everybody seemed to be paranoid

except for us two, who were in the glow of love. Everything is clear and open when you’re in love. Everybody was, sort of, tense around us. You know, ‘What is she

doing here at the session? Why is she with him?’ All that sort of madness going on around us just because we happened to want to be together all the time. George

claimed that the ‘everybody’s got something to hide’ part was taken from one of the Maharishi’s favorite teachings. The whole song took an unbelievable thirty-two

hours to make Lead Vocal John
