HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
The months of November and December are very busy on
MCHS’s campus. Seniors are completing applications to
colleges, exams are right around the corner, the first semester will
soon be over, and the time for Season of Sharing in Newberry
County has begun.
The Season of Sharing program is a tradition for the student body
at Mid-Carolina. Cans and nonperishable goods are collected
throughout the month of November and donated to Manna House
to help less fortunate families in Newberry County. This year’s
Season of Sharing can food drive began on Monday, October 22
and ended on Friday, November 2.
Want to add some glitter to someone’s Christmas. Consider
adopting a less fortunate student from our community from the
MCHS annual Angel Tree. During lunch students have the
opportunity to choose a name of a less fortunate child from the
Christmas tree. Angels will be up for adoption during the month
of November. These gifts are to be wrapped and returned to Mrs.
Hallman by Friday, December 7.
The Season of Sharing assembly is held at Mid-Carolina High
during the school day, and representatives from each of the
feeder elementary schools participate in the assembly. They are
rewarded and noted for their hard work. This year’s assembly
will be held on Tuesday, December 11.
Thanks to everyone who donated blood on
September 5th!! We had over 40 donors! Those
40 donors helped save 120 lives.
MCHS will hosted our second blood drive of the year, The
Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive, on Thursday, November 8.
Thanks to everyone who donated!!!
SERVICE LEARNING
Service Learning Logs and Intern Hours are due to Mrs. Hallman
on the following dates: Monday, November 26, Friday;
December 14; and Friday, January 11.
SENIOR BETA CLUB/STUDENT COUNCIL
Congratulations to Senior Beta Club and Student Council for a
successful BooFest on Friday, Oct. 26. BooFest was a community
service event for all of the MC and NHS elementary feeder
schools prior to the big rival game. There were blow-ups, games,
food-vending, and candy galore! Thank you to everyone who
participated. A special thank-you to Beta Club and Student
Council parents. We couldn't have done it without you!
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE DAYS
Parent/Teacher Conference Days will be held on January 17 &
18. Students will attend school all day on the 17th. The 18th is a

COLLEGE APPLICATION DAY
It’s hard to believe that the senior
year is here and that graduation
is just around the corner. It’s
officially time for seniors to apply
for college. To assist students with
the process, MCHS hosted College
Application Day on October 18,
2012. The event gives seniors
an opportunity to begin an application to the college of their
choice. Seniors are encouraged to submit applications during the
first semester. MCHS Guidance will continue to meet with
seniors and initiate the application process. To date, 120
applications have been completed and submitted by the Class of
2013. As soon as an application is submitted, please inform
guidance so that a counselor recommendation can be completed
and transcript/testing results can officially be submitted to
admissions.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a week
long summer leadership program for high school students. Rotary
Clubs all across the state sponsor students in their districts to
attend the camp. The students are usually rising juniors and
seniors at their high schools.
The staff at RYLA are all former students who have gone
through the program. This summer Mid-Carolina High School
students Cornelius Glasgow and
Yarelie Mitchell had the
opportunity to attend RYLA.
Coach Emmanuel DeWalt,
teacher and coach at
Mid-Carolina High School,
attended RYLA as a rising
senior in high school and
has been back every summer to work the camp. As Associate
Camp Director he feels, "One of the greatest parts about RYLA is
watching the transformation of students from Sunday afternoon
to Saturday morning. The relationships formed at RYLA are like
no other. By Saturday morning the students build such a bond
with each other that they are in tears before they leave."

JROTC
On Wednesday, October 11th, the
Mid-Carolina Army JROTC had the
honor of presenting the Colors at
the SC Board Of Education. Through
great display of skill and practice, the
MCHS Color Guard performed their
presentation of the colors flawlessly.
The Color Guard was led by Cadet Major Maldonado, who
serves at the Executive Officer of the Battalion. The Color Guard
consisted of the following Cadets: Davis Knuckles, Johnathon
Brunson, James Byers, and Gabriel Phillip. The ceremony was
also attended by MCHS Principal Mr. Ray Cooper. After the
presentation of the Colors, cadets had the oppurtunity to meet the
South Carolina Superintendent of Education, Dr. Mick Zais,
former president of Newberry College. It was a great experience
the cadets will not soon forget.
On September 29, 2012 the Mid-Carolina
High School Army JROTC Battalion
performed one of many Community Support
services. Thirty four cadets were in
attendance, ranging from first year cadets to
senior cadets who acted as supervisors for this event. The MCHS
JROTC Battalion holds three of these events on two miles of SC
Highway 773 each year. The events provide cadets the
opportunity to apply leadership skills and community values to
the real world. The JROTC unit has received frequent public
recognition and awards for these Community Services.
On the evening of September 25,
the Mid-Carolina High School
JROTC Battalion conducted its
Fall promotion ceremony in the
MCHS Cafeteria. It was attended
by 75 JROTC cadets and
approximately 60 family members,
faculty, and friends.
Mr. Ray Cooper, Principal, was the Guest of Honor, while LTC
John Brooks and SFC Donald Foster officiated.
The ceremony consisted of recognition of 9 JROTC cadets who
attended the Annual JROTC Summer Camp at Fort Jackson, the
Award of the Ironman (C/Maj Jorce Maldanado) and Ironwoman
(C/CPT Callie Hockman), physical training trophies and
individual promotions of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year cadets. The
ceremony culminated with the promotions of C/CSM Gabe
Phillip to Batallion Command Sergeant Major, C/MAJ Jorge
Maldonaldo to Battalion Executive Officer and C/LTC Gabe
Shakkori to Battalion Commander.
With its leadership and chain of command installed, the Mid-
Carolina JROTC Battalion can begin a vigorous year of JROTC
activities and community support.
