This session takes a unique, conversational approach and takes participants on a journey that challenges what we know about diversity and all of the -ism's. This world is divided, and until we open up and gain clarity on the real problem, we'll go from one -ism to the next, as we have over the past several hundred years. Get ready to go where no diversity session is willing to go.

Program: Self-Awareness and Perception LeadershipWorking with student leaders is never a clear-cut job; it takes patience and flexibility on the part of the professional staff. After starting a position in student affairs that specialized in student activities over six years ago, I thought I knew exactly how to deal with students. I came to this conclusion mostly because, less than two years prior to starting my new position, I was a college student. Having the college experience not long before, I thought that I had the necessary experience and skills for managing student leaders. I learned very quickly that as much as I knew how to be a college student, I did not know how to manage college students, especially student leaders, as a university administrator. It was time to rethink my own self-awareness in understanding the perceptions I was creating.

Program: Creating a "Certified" Event Planner Program at your CampusMany times the only students who get the real "hands on" event planning training are the ones that are directly connected to the Student Activities offices, but what kind of event planning training do the other orgs get? Its seems as our organizations like the fearless and overly used organization, Underwater Basket Weavers, are left to figure out how to plan their events on their own or from help from their staff/faculty advisor, who hasn't made it to a meeting in the last year and a half.... This program will explain the key pieces in creating a successful event planning training and provide as a resources to those schools who have been searching for an answer.

Program: I'm an Ally... So Now What? You've decided you want to be an ally...so now what? What does it actually mean to act as an ally for others - regardless of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, etc. - and how do you know that you're "doing it right"? Is it enough to simply show up at events and tack on an ally button to share your conviction with the world, or does being an ally require more? On the other hand, can someone be an ally without ever stepping foot at a rally or carrying a sign at a protest? Join this interactive conversation as we consider ways in which student leaders can live out their commitment to being an ally for their peers in everyday situations, and work to help create a space for the genuine voice of others to be heard within their campus communities.
