Super High Frequency Microwave units for the sterilization of Infectious Medical Waste is now on
offer to the market
These units have been tested at
Ministry of Health,
Ministry of Defense,
Federal Centre for Hygiene and Epidemiology
are in use since 2003 extensively throughout Russia and CIS.
Tested for Vegetative, Spores, Fungi, Viruses pathogens
Introduction
Microwave frequency (SHF) heating is
By use of electromagnetic waves of frequency 2450 MHz.
Water molecules, present in all cells, being dipolar, try to follow the electric field associated with the electromagnetic waves directed on them
This results in oscillations of molecules and the resultant molecular friction causes RAPID HEATING.
The ions in the water further help in this phenomenon.
Microwave (SHF) - how it works…
Application of Super High Frequency electromagnetic fields on waste material results in:
Rapid heat up of liquids and ions in the liquid cell material of bacteria and micro organisms,
Causes the destruction of
Cellular membranes
Virus protein structure
of all infectious agents of the waste
…and what it does
Intravenous catheters, blood (and components) bags and associated tubing, suction tubes etc.
Hemodialysis and Peritoneal dialysis Waste (filters, lines, catheters, bags)
Cultures, culture dishes and devices used to transfer, inoculate, or mix cultures
Surgery costumes, masks and gloves, sponges, gowns associated with waste collection
Packing Materials …and any other potentially contaminated waste products of medicine, veterinary or laboratory

Accessories
Basics of ProcessMicrowaves come out of the magnetron,
After numerous reflections from the walls of the chamber
Waves enter the new areas of the basket continuously.
They pass through the waste being processed
Process Steps - 1
1. Waste collected and packed in plastic bag
2. Bag arranged in re-usable polypropylene Can to fill around 75% volume and covered with transit lids
3. Test strip inserted4. Bag closed but not tied5. Sensitizing agent added to the bag
and to the Can6. Lid with filter firmly closed onto the
Can.
Waste materials and Application
8. 60 + 15 minute process time7. Filled & Closed Cans are put in Microwave for processing
Test strip confirms that the process was successful.
Waste typically compacts by 30% and safe to be handled
Capacity
2 x 30 liter Cans
20 kg max load with 4 lit. of sensitizing agent
2 kg min load with 2 lit. of sensitizing agent
Cycle time 60 + 15 minutes
Approx. 4 Dialysis Sets per Can
Experience
The product has been in operation for 6 years
800 units sold in number of clinics till date!
Installations in Russia and CIS
Federal Target Programs of Russia (8 regions incl. Moscow) – 191 units
Top 17 Medical Facilities of Ministries and Departments of Russia Ministry of Defense, FSB, Ministry of Healthcare, Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Ministry of Finances, – 19 units
Blood banks – 16 units
Dialysis centers – 16 units
Various Medical facilities, incl. various Hospitals, AIDS, Tuberculosis, Infection Skin Disease Clinics, Hospices, Orthodontic Clinics, Diagnostic Centers, Laboratories, Ambulatories, Scientific Research Institutes, etc.

In August 2009 – Microwave Unit registered in Ministry of Health of Ukraine
Sterilizing of Dialysis Waste
Dialysis waste contains residual blood with Highest risk of contamination from HIV, Hepatitis B and C viruses
Dialyzers and Bloodlines are very hard to sterilize with chemical disinfectants
Use of Microwave Unit for sterilizing of Dialysis Waste is recommended by Fresenius Medical Care - world's largest, integrated provider of dialysis products & services

Conclusion
Effective Sterilization of Infectious waste including Dialysis Waste.
Capacity 60 Liter/hour or 20 kg/hr.
100% effective kill of bacterial spore B. stearothemophilus
A better alternative to many traditional decontamination methods.
Complements Sharps Blaster technology perfectly ….
Super High Frequency technology provides
…but just a beginning of story
Recent tests with sealed ampoules containing “live” B. antracis, Y.pestis, Br. Abortus,
F. tularensis and virus vaccines (Variolae,Morbillorum, H5N1, Influenza) were
performed.
Tests have shown effectiveness, i.e. possibility of plant application in drugstore
warehouses, utilization points for immune-biological preparations without opening
ampoules.
