APPENDIX I IAPB WORK GROUP – LONG -TERM GLOBAL INDICATORS PURPOSE The primary role of the Global Indicators Work Group (GIWG) is to exchange views on the development and collection of common long- term outcome indicators to enable more consistent reporting on the impact of efforts to address avoidable blindness. The GIWG will collectively review what is working effectively, what can be addressed in collaboration, and what activities the sector should be focusing on to improve reporting on long-term indicators and the Global Action Plan. ACTIVITIES The GIWG will: Form and foster partnership and collaboration between eye care Non-Governmental Organisations who are actively collect outcome indicators Collate, develop, maintain and establish an agreed set of common and shared long-term outcome indicators, that enable reporting on the impact the sector is having on ending avoidable blindness Prepare policy papers, position statements and other external communications on long-term indicators for the IAPB Board consideration Act as a forum for information exchange, learning and debate regarding long-term indicators, shared data sets and impact reporting Share relevant information and analysis with the wider IAPB membership, other IAPB work groups, and the IAPB Board Develop formal recommendations to the IAPB Board regarding the adoption of formal long-term indicators as best practise and policy across the sector.

STRUCTURE CHAIR

The Chair is elected by the GIWG. The minimum term of office is 1 year after which the position is open to the work group members; re-election is possible. The role of the Chair is to:

1. Chair the GIWG meetings2. Represent the Work Group at internal and external meetings3. Oversee the work of the GIWG and ensure the work of the group is carried out4. Identify external expertise to be co-opted to the working group.

GROUP MEMBERSHIP

Membership of the group is open to all IAPB members actively engaged in long-term indicators.

All work group members are expected to actively contribute their particular expertise and knowledge to ensure the group meets its stated objectives.

MEETINGS

The Work Group will meet either face to face or by teleconference at least three times a year. Opportunities for face-to-face meetings will be sought around other events that may already see the attendance of the work group members.

Decisions at a meeting of the GIWG must be determined by a resolution passed by a majority of votes of those present and voting. The quorum for a meeting shall be not less than two thirds of the GIWG members. The Chair will not have a casting vote.

Responsibility for administration and meeting coordination will be that of The Chair on a rotational basis. ACCOUNTABILITY

The GIWG will regularly report on its activities to the IAPB Board of Trustees. The GIWG, through its Chair, will seek the approval of the IAPB Board for any new position statement it wishes to be formally approved as an IAPB position. The Board will periodically review the activities of the work group and make any relevant decision on its focus and continuity.
