GENERAL INFORMATION PROGRAM

CHANGE, CHALLENGE AND OPPORTUNITYWelcome from our PresidentConference 2018 is fast approaching and we have finally been able to complete the program which was started at our planning day back in November last year. This year the committee have decided our theme is "Change, Challenge and Opportunity". This theme has been chosen by the committee as we believe the changes in the Department, the changes that will be coming with the introduction of webSIS along with other changes that are coming our way, can create challenges for us and our schools.

We should not be concerned about these challenges, just like in life, challenges can bring opportunities. These opportunities can be a chance to look at what we do, how we do things and how we can review and improve our practices. It may be how we support those working alongside us and how we ourselves can be supported.

The new webSIS and Finance modules will definitely be game changers for us all. Those us who have been in our role for some time will have to learn new ways of doing things, which we are not always open to. I have been fortunate as the President of WAECSSA to have a look at some of the changes and I am excited. To say that webSIS is overdue is an understatement. The changes will ensure that we have access to an excellent platform for managing student administration. This new system has some fantastic advantages that I am sure over time you will all find make our workload easier.

This year we have developed our new website that now includes the membership platform, making it a one stop point of contact for information and membership.

The committee continue to work tirelessly to ensure we provide meaningful professional learning. Again this year we have sourced outstanding speakers and I believe the program is filled with excellent sessions and am sure you will find something to suit you, whether it is systemic training or one of our leadership sessions.

Last year's Conference was one of our best, with the most number of delegates to attend. I think it will be difficult to improve on, but we will try.

Again this year at Conference we have included sessions with the directorates for our Remote and Regional Schools to ensure that they have the same access to the DoE directorates as do the metropolitan schools. We believe it is important that they have the opportunity to meet and discuss their unique situations and have their questions answered.

This will be my last year as President of the Association as I will be stepping down. However, I will remain on committee for twelve months to support the new President.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support, especially those who have held positions on the committee over the years. Without a strong committee who are prepared to put in the time, my role as President would have been so much harder. It has been a privilege to be the person appointed to be your representative and to work with such amazing people.

I hope you will all continue to support the association, our new President and committee. This association was formed to support you and I believe it plays an important part now in ensuring you have quality professional learning.

The association has formed some excellent partnerships and we hope to bring you even more opportunities for learning to support you in the future.

I hope you find the program that your committee has put together to be valuable and worth you taking the time out of your busy schedules to enjoy the learning and the network with like-minded colleagues.

The day will continue with the first of the day's breakout sessions, then a plenary from Standards and Integrity will bring us to lunch.

The final session will commence after lunch, followed by our Sponsor draw and the final wrap of the Conference.

The Conference would not be possible if not for the continued support of our fantastic, loyal sponsors. Over the two days I hope you will take the time to meet and connect with our sponsors and allow them a minute of your time to inform you about the services their companies provide. Thank you to our sponsors, your continued support is appreciated by all our delegates.

We thank the Department of Education for their support by providing the expertise presenting breakout sessions and running the Information Desks over the three days.

The partnerships with our sponsors and the Department of Education directorates, ensures that Corporate Service Staff continue to work collaboratively to maintain successful practices.

I hope the 2018 WAECSSA Conference meets your expectations and you come away feeling enlightened, equipped and ready to face the challenges to come.

Amy CoombeWe all know the saying ‘a change is as good as a holiday’ but with change can also come uncertainty. It can unsettle our day to day way of living and bring up many different emotions within us. What do we do when we experience that? What do we do when we experience that plus the everyday challenges that can pop up within our lives?

Challenges like stress, anxiety, guilt, pressure, work / life balance, mental health and wellbeing. How do we replace fear with courage? Courage to speak up when we’re struggling, help those around us do the same and say yes to new opportunities and experiences as they present themselves to us?
