    Microsoft Mou se Mischief   is an add-in to MicrosoftOffice PowerP oint 2010 and 2007, the presentationprogram by Microsoft that is part of the MicrosoftOffice system. It runs on the Microsoftindows op erating systems indows !P "P#,indows $ista and indows 7. %he

    program enab&es teachers tocreate and insert 'uestions, po&&s,

    and drawing acti(ity s&ides into OfficePowerPoint &essons. hen the

    &essons are p&ayed, students can acti(e&yrespond to these s&ides, indi(idua&&y or in teams, byusing their own mice to c&ic), circ&e, cross out,

    co&or in, or draw answers on the screen.

    Mouse Mischief emerged from a co&&aboration between two of Microsoft*sresearch &abs in India and +hina. In 200, in response to the high student-to-computer ratio in many schoo&s, Microsoft esearch India I/+ beganwor)ing on a technica& so&ution that wou&d pro(ide each student with amouse and a cursor on the screen. %hey conducted se(era& fie&d studies of mu&tip&e-mouse software program and computer-aided education. %his wasetended by eema Mora(e3i, then a researcher with Microsoft esearch

     4sia in 5ei3ing, +hina, to c&ass-wide interactions using a &arge disp&ay and

    interaction with PowerPoint. Initia& uses were meant to support remoteteaching from urban +hinese centers to (i&&ages. %he remote-teachingcomponent was soon dropped and uti&ity was obser(ed for in-c&assinteractions.

    6urther studies by members of the same team were conductingeperimenting with mouse-based tet entry and the impact of pointingperformance when seeing mu&tip&e cursors on-screen. 6urther research onMouse Mischief continued when Mora(e3i continued research as a doctora&student at "tanford ni(ersity*s 8earning "ciences and %echno&ogy /esignprogram.

    other ob3ects, which may be arranged free&y on the s&ide. Mouse Mischief 

    adds three temp&ates or 9s&ide masters9 to the standard PowerPoint

    temp&ates: yes;no, mu&tip&e-choice, and drawing s&ides. %hese are the

    s&ides that students can c&ic) or draw on when then presentation is p&ayed.
