Design Company Slims Down on Servers after Virtualising Test,
Development and Backup
4-page Case Study posted: 07/30/2009 Views: 38
HASSELL is a multidisciplinary design practice with 12 studios
across Australia and Asia. In 2007, the company decided to
develop a single platform for its project management, time
billing and accounting systems, choosing Microsoft Dynamics®
AX. However, the application suite would require heavy
investment in new server infrastructure: besides the live
environment, the technology team needed an ongoing test and
development environment to help integrate updates and new
applications after the initial roll-out. In April 2008, HASSELL
decided to deploy Microsoft Dynamics® AX using Microsoft’s
virtualisation product – Hyper-VTM. This cut the number of
new servers required by HASSELL from over 20 to seven. In
addition, virtualisation has provided the team with permanent
test and development facilities and dramatically improved the
resilience of the company’s core information systems platform.

2 page Case Study posted: 07/13/2009 Views: 3245
With 70 percent of Australia’s active Internet audience visiting
each month, ninemsn is Australia’s leading online media site.
With more than 50 news, sports, entertainment and fashion sites,
ninemsn is known for its premium content and innovative user
experiences. The company used Microsoft® Silverlight™ to
create a new way for visitors to experience ninemsn on the Web.
By using Silverlight, ninemsn displayed hundreds of high-
resolution digital photos on the ninemsn Web site that Grazia
Magazine took during Australia’s premier fashion event,
Rosemont Australian Fashion Week. Web visitors can access the
high-resolution photography without lengthy downloads. The
Deep Zoom feature gives visitors much more control over the
experience, flying over thumbnails or expanding any image they
want. The enhanced experience leads to longer site visits, which
is a key online-advertising metric.

On-Demand CRM Solution Increases Sales, Shortens Sales Cycle,

JayThom specializes in helping companies optimize the benefits
of Microsoft® products. Its employees have deep expertise in
deploying Microsoft Dynamics® CRM 4.0 and tailoring it to
boost clients’ productivity and performance. Executives decided
to add a new revenue stream by including an on-demand
customer relationship management (CRM) offering alongside
JayThom’s on-premises capability. Consequently, salespeople
now pursue more opportunities among small and midsize
businesses that lack the infrastructure to support an on-premises
implementation. Moreover, the company’s low-risk ―try-before-
you-buy‖ sales approach entices more enterprise customers to
engage JayThom. The ability to deploy the on-demand solution
quickly and at a very low cost has also shortened JayThom’s
sales cycle.

WorleyParsons, a provider of professional services to the
energy, resource, and complex process industries, has grown
substantially through a series of mergers and acquisitions. To
best reflect its international presence, and to be able to publish
information in a timely manner, the company had to replace its
outdated Web site. WorleyParsons used Microsoft® Office
SharePoint® Server 2007 as the foundation for its new Web
site. In less than three months, the company launched a new
global corporate site, with tools that allow users to seamlessly
publish content to WorleyParsons.com—with minimal
involvement from IT. The publishing process is so much
simpler that the company saves three days of time each week
among IT and marketing personnel responsible for the
publishing process.
