You dont have to live in Chicagos most notorious area code to enjoy one of its most notorious beers, which is good for all of the craft brew lovers out there. Goose Island, the brand behind the bottle, began producing its high-quality beers back in the mid-80s, when most of the Midwest was drowning itself in mass-produced beer that had little variation or flavor. Founder John Hall decided he could show his state a thing or two and opened Goose Islands Brewpub in 1988, which helped a whole new generation realize how tasty beer could be. Goose

Island continues to please the palates of many and now that summertime has rolled around once again, its time for us to enjoy the seasonal Summertime Ale.

Available from March thru August in six, twelve or twenty-four packs, Goose Islands Summertime Ale is the perfect beverage to enjoy on those steamy summer days. As a Kolsch beer brewed in the traditional German fashion, this brew features a smell of roasted malt and the taste is light enough to enjoy by itself or paired with your favorite food off the grill. Theres a hint of lemon as well and just the right amount of carbonation to give it a clean and refreshing flavor that is smooth and, even with an ABV of 4.7%, it still goes down easily. The hazy golden color is reminiscent of the warmest and slowest of summer days and this beer will make you want to make those days last for as long as possible, so you can savor every last drop.

There are many ways that you can enjoy this summer and if drinking great-tasting, quality beer is something that you strive for, look no further than your nearest bar or corner liquor store. Goose Islands Summertime Ale is something that wont be around all year so be sure to take advantage and stock your shelves while you can. Much like the lazy days of summer itself, this savory beer will be gone quickly and before you know it.

My PLaCE - SoUtH bENd Sex Pill

A married woman of 10 years goes to the doctor and complains that her husband is losing interest in sex. The doctor gives her a pill, but warns her it is still experimental and tells her to slip it into his mashed potatoes at dinner. So, that night at dinner, she does. About a week later shes back at the doctors. She says, Doc, the pill worked great! I put it in the potatoes like you suggested. It wasnt five minutes and he jumps up, rakes all the food and dishes on the floor, grabs me, rips all my clothes off and ravishes me right there on the table. The doctor says, Im sorry, we didnt realize the pill was that strong. The foundation will be glad to pay for any damages. Naah... she says, thats okay. We wouldnt go back to that restaurant anyway.

  • the 65th annual New Carlisle firemans ball is set for June 23rd and its going to be a night of fun. this is traditionally the biggest fundraiser of the year for the New Carlisle volunteer fire department, and this year is no different. we have already been soliciting donations from residents with a mailer, said New Carlisle fire Chief Josh Schweizer. So the majority of money raised will come before the event even begins.

the firemans ball attracts quite the crowd. In fact, the largest in attendance at a firemans ball was about 600 people. Never having been to a firemans ball myself, I had to ask Chief Schweizer if it was a formal, black tie event, and much to my surprise, I was totally off base. Its just a big outdoor party, like something youd find at a festival the Chief said. we have a huge tent that we purchased a few years ago and we set that up with tables, a beer garden and live entertainment.

the live entertainment this year will be provided by Stillshot, and in between their sets, a dJ will take the stage. the night of fun will include food by brunos Pizza (whom the fire department teamed up) as well as $2 beers, $5 pitchers and $3 Mikes Hard Lemonade and wine. New this year are our blackjack tables, said Chief Schweizer. we will also be selling $5 raffle tickets. Prizes up for grabs include a grill and a kindle fire.

the firemans ball is an event open up to the entire community and outlining areas. It truly is more of an event for the public than the fireman. after all, those volunteer firefighters will still be on

duty. the firemen dont drink during the ball because we are on call, said the Chief. Its pretty standard. we maintain a professional appearance; in fact we will all be dressed in our uniform. this event is really for our community members. I want them, when they walk in, to look at us and think thats whos going to save me.

If youre feeling bad like I did, thinking these guys dont even get to have fun at their own ball at their place, dont worry. the guys do have their own party, the night before the event. In the past, we rode tricycles down the hill near our fire house and it used to be quite the community event, said Chief. Last year, we changed things up and we went to the park in town and got a giant slip and slide and slid down the hill. It was a blast!

the money raised from previous balls has gone to a variety of things needed for the fire department, and this year will be no different. In the past, we used funds towards a new command vehicle, gear, or if we need a specific tool, said the Chief. all the money goes back in the fire department.

the 65th annual firemen's ball takes place on Saturday, June 23rd from 7 pm to 1 am. you can purchase your ticket for $5 at the door. Location for the event: 204 East Michigan Street, New Carlisle, IN. If youve never been to a firemans ball, Chief Schweizer thinks you may want to come this year. we just want to show people that even though its a small town event, we know how to have a good time, he said.

Women are known for their love of shopping so one would think that we would be racing the aisles any time the temperature changed enough to warrant an addition to our wardrobe. This is true for the most part but there seems to be one item that is at the bottom of every ladys shopping list the dreaded bathing suit. If you have one from last season that you can still fit into and it isnt falling apart from chlorine saturation, then youre luckier than most. For everyone else, brace yourself because swimsuit season is upon us and buying a new suit can be frustrating at best and downright traumatic at its worst, so try to keep some things in mind the next time you head for the dressing room. Even women with the body of Heidi Klum arent immune to awful lighting and poorly positioned mirrors, but its hard to remember that when you fear you look a lot like Jabba the Hutt trying to fit into Princess Leias bikini. Chances are youre not as overweight or pasty as you think and if stores really wanted to improve customer

service, they would let you try clothes on by candlelight, preferably with a bottle of wine at hand. To achieve this desired effect feel free to smuggle in your own booze and plan an elaborate power outage that will allow you to try your suits on in the comfort of a cell phone flashlight app. I would also suggest trying things on blindfolded but as that seems a little counterproductive, perhaps squinting will help you see yourself the way you want to be seen. Funhouse mirrors can also help you look taller and skinnier but if youre having a hard time looking at yourself in the

privacy of a store dressing room, standing in a suit at the nearest amusement park or circus could be a bit more daunting. Even online shopping doesnt help much here because, as those distorted mirrors show us, looks can be deceiving. After all this you may be tempted to burn every piece of clothing you own but try to keep in mind that most bathing suits are made for women with the size equivalent of a Barbie doll. So purchase one of those and burn it instead. Any actual woman knows that we all come in different shapes and sizes and if you just cant find what youre looking for, perhaps try shopping at a different store. If youre really desperate, try making a suit from an old raincoat or poncho (just be sure to avoid any Virginia Woolf-like tendencies). Skinny-dipping may not be in your future but dont let yourself to be so self-conscious you cant get out and have some fun, since youre probably more concerned about how you fill that suit than anyone else. After all, anything that helps you get wet could be your new best friend!

Note to agents, managers, promoters and other music business denizens who crossed paths with Saving Abel in the past: if you ever shorted them the odd percentage or two, or failed to return a favor, let a phone call...now might be a good time to consider making amends. At least, thats one impression conveyed by the thumping midtempo title track of Saving Abels third album,Bringing Down The Giant, due out on June 19. After getting a few preliminaries out of the way (I hit the wall/I got back up and dusted off), singer Jared Weeks lets loose his feelings under a thick, throbbing wall of buzzing guitars: Your karmas coming back here to find ya/This could get a little violent/Im bringing down the giant! This raw and relentless sound, as the bands website biography notes, marks a return to the approach thats seen Saving Abel share stages with the likes of Buckcherry, Hinder and Nickelback: Bringing Down the Giant...is raunchy enough to give Disturbed, Metallica or even Pantera a run for their money. Its the type of song that will blow down the doors if the WWE or UFC gets a hold of it.Local fans wont have to wait long before hearing his new approach. Ever the committed road warriors, Saving Abel went back on tour near the end of May. The band returns to South Bend on Sunday, July 1, as part of The Bears Big Growl, an all-ages, multi-band extravaganza in St. Patricks County Park, on Laurel Road (north of Auten). Other featured artists include Hurt, Pop Evil, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Redlight King. Gates will open at noon, with the event kicking off at 2 p.m.Advance tickets for The Big Growl are $15 (including parking and service fees), and are available from the Morris Performing Arts Center Box Office, 211 N. Michigan St., South Bend, IN, or online, at morriscenter.org. To order by phone, call (574) 235-9190. If you wait until show day, tickets will rise to $18. The event is sponsored by Budweiser, McDaniels Harley-Davidson and Real Rock 1039 The Bear.

Bringing Down The Giant marks a new beginning, in several ways, for the band starting with a new label, eOne, that became involved after the band left its previous paymasters, Virgin. The timing proved fortuitous, since everything but the album artwork had been finished, as Weeks explained on savingabel.com: In the past we always had to get into the studio, get the album done. I dont want to talk badly about our old label, but, at eOne, we can tell they are really excited about us and we are at the top of the list of things for them to do. Instead of rushing to develop arrangements, lyrics and melodies on tour as Saving Abel did for its last album, Miss America (2010) the new label arrangement gave Weeks and longtime creative partner, Jason Null (lead guitar), sufficient breathing room to write 40 songs.

Amid all this burst of creative energy, producer Skidd Mills who oversaw the bands first album returned for the new one. (Saving Abels other members are rhythm guitarist Scott Bartlett, bassist Eric Taylor and drummer Michael McManus.) In the process, Saving Abel delivered the hard-hitting rock anthems for its best known plus a good deal of textures that are more commonly associated with country music, such as banjos, jaws harps, and mandolins. As Weeks explains, thats the kind of approach bound to leave the trendies in the dust, and the band couldnt be happier about the outcome. We brought out every Southern, redneck, hillbilly style you can think of, man. A lot of times its really easy to get lost out there when you write music you think people will like or what they want to hear, said Weeks. Were more true to ourselves on this record, more true to our nature (than ever before).Goliath and any other self-described giants out there should take note, and consider themselves warned...Saving Abel is back, and karma doesnt take a vacation.

Thirty-one years after its demise, Led Zeppelins mystique burns brightly as ever fueled by several one-off live shows, the last occurring in 2007. With nothing coming from the inevitable reunion rumors, fans have to find other ways of keeping the torch burning such as through Kashmir, the Chicago-based tribute band that guitarist Frank Livingston has led for nearly a decade.Youre going to hear a show based mostly on the (1976 concert) movie, The Song Remains The Same but were going to interject several studio cuts that were not included, such as The Lemon Song, said Livingston. Theres not a lot of wasted time onstage. We pretty much go for the throat. We keep it moving. We dont like people getting bored.Kashmir performs at Cheers Pub, 103 S. Dixie Way, South Bend. Theyll be performing there on June 29th with Dark Trilogy. Livingston will perform with Doug Bonham (drums), John Paul Jake (bass, keyboards) and Bill Plant (vocals) whose pseudonyms are drawn from their respective famous namesakes (John Bonham, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant).Fittingly, the road to Kashmir proved as winding as Led Zeppelins epic of the same name. Like many musicians, Livingston hoped to make it on his original merits with Baby Face a Bon Jovi kind of band, he recalls, that found itself on all these teen magazines you see in the supermarket.Things were going really well, and the lead singer flushed it down the toilet at a moments notice, said Livingston. Its always the case, and its always that particular person. Thats why I have three lead singers that take turns. The sole remaining original member, Livingston now works with rotating lineups which keeps the stage show fresh, he feels, and minimizes problems like the dreaded syndrome known as Lead Singers Disease. When that comes into play, I just ask the singer to stay home and watch TV that night, said Livingston, laughing.Livingston soon put together another original combo that opened

for a Led Zeppelin tribute band who invited him to join their ranks, after noticing his guitar chops and gear.I used all this vintage gear, like (guitarist Jimmy) Page did Im that kind of person, said Livingston. So I ended up flying to Richmond, VA, and started playing with them. We worked our way across, and when we got to Chicago, I found a replacement for myself, because I knew people in the Chicagoland area that were superior to these guys.Kashmir strives to deliver a classic 70s period feel, through authentic costumes, special effects and stage gear but in a non-pretentious way, with respect for the bands music, according to Livingston. Unlike other Zep tribute bands, Livingston believes in sticking with arrangements and guitar parts from the classic studio recordings instead of improvising them from live bootlegs. When you love Led Zeppelin as much as we do, you really take that extra time to learn each little inflection, said Livingston. When I audition people, I tell them right upfront: I dont want to hear what you do. I want to hear what they did. Im used to certain versions, and I feel that the movie and the studio cuts were the most popular (ones).Kashmir also avoids the soloing indulgences that can be found on countless bootlegs such as the late Bonhams 30-minute Moby Dick drum solo, for example. Thats because this is 2011, said Livingston. I believe this band should put people in that 70s mindset, but bring it up to date, to where you can make it come across to them.Like many tribute musicians, Livingston has taken his share of knocks, but isnt losing any sleep about them. All the guys I was in original bands with, theyre begging people to come and see them, and giving away their products at least were around people, and its music everyone enjoys, he said.

For a duo thats only existed a couple of years, Nutshell has covered a lot of territory. Thats because Neil Allesee (guitar, vocals) and his uncle, Bill Jones (bongos, djembe and other assorted percussion, vocals) have built up a schedule thats sufficient to support themselves as musicians.

A couple years ago, we just decided to do an acoustic thing he quit his job, and so did I, said Allesee. Last year, I had personally about 250 to 260 gigs. When were not working together, we play in a couple of different projects. We stay busy.

Music has always been a family affair for Allesee. Bill played in a band with my dad, when I was growing up. Once I was 18, being able to get into the bars, I started playing with him in a few different bands, he recalled.

Far from the clichd image of starving artists, the LaPorte, IN duo are playing four to six gigs a week working a territory that runs from their own hometown, to Michigan City, Porter, New Carlisle, and South Bend, IN. For the last month, however, Alesee and Jones have taken time off to record their first album, which should wrap up by the end of the summer.

Our main thing is our harmonies, said Allesee. We both were lead singers in different bands, and hes got a great ear. Our harmonies, Id say, is whats getting us out there, and wanting people to have us night after night.

Nutshell (whose name comes from an Alice In Chains song) play regularly from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at The Whistle Stop, 206 Lincoln St., Porter, IN, and 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wednesdays at Ringers Sports Bar & Grill, 311 Washington St., LaPorte, IN. To stay on top of Nutshells activities, visit www.reverbnation.com/nutshell1 where its possible to hear their music or facebook.com/nutshell.

All this activity does have a downside, Allesee acknowledges: its easy to crash and burn, which is why he and Jones want to pay greater attention to planning. We just overbooked ourselves quite a bit, so were trying to plan this next round of gigs better so we can get around, (and) do a few different areas, he said.

Though Nutshell make originals a priority, Allesee and Jones

have also gained attention for creatively reworking well-known songs such as the Beatles Hey Jude.. That one goes over, especially for the older group, said Allesee. Weve also got medleys, where we combine song after song we started off not covering as much, but now, we cover everything from the 50s, to modern day (hits). You name it, well give it an attempt.

That attitude, in Allesees opinion, is another ingredient in Nutshells success. Its tough when people come and ask us (what theyll play) well, if you just stick around, I guarantee well play something you want to hear, said Allesee, laughing. Also, it depends on the gig earlier in the night, there be might be some older people out there eating. At the end of the night, thats when the young people come in. We can cater to both.

Thats why Allesee looks forward to playing LaPortes Fourth of July parade for the second straight year, for example. A lot of people might not always get to hear us, because we are playing in bars whenever I can get a gig outside of that (environment), I try to do that, he said.

For now, theres no master plan beyond completing the album, and keeping the gig calendar humming. I was roofing houses before now, I play music every day, said Allesee. I get to play with my uncle, who influenced my playing the whole way, growing up. We wouldnt change a thing, really. Nothing lasts forever. Weve been blessed to have it take us this far, and be able to do this every night.

Not everyone sees the growth of a phenomenon but thats just what happened to Smooth Soundz owner Jeremy Lawless. Since 2000, Lawlesss company has specialized in DJ and karaoke entertainment, whose participants sing popular songs over prerecorded backing tracks. Ten to 15 years ago, karaoke wasnt as popular as it is now, said Lawless. I went to Tucson from 2005 to 2011, and within a month, it was no time before I had 14 shows a week. I had to hire other people to help me, and train them.Lawless began doing DJ and karaoke work at 15. A family friend was a DJ, and Id always been interested. So, being young, I nagged him until he taught me all his secrets of how to do stuff, he said, laughing. Before long, Lawless soon found himself in demand for private parties. I would do friends parties through high school, where we hooked up home stereo equipment, and Id hook up a laptop to it or a couple CD players, or a record player, said Lawless. We did a lot of vinyl when I started now, its all computerized, which makes it so much easier.Lawless eventually graduated to doing karaoke nights for bars that had their own sound systems. The next logical step came in March 2000, when Lawless started Smooth Soundz, based in Valparaiso, IN. Those who hire Lawless can expect a top class operation starting with a great sound system, so you sound good on it, he notes plus vocal effects to help performers sound better. Its about encouragement, said Lawless. We always frown upon anyone that will boo, or complain. We let them all know, when karaoke originated in Asian culture, its considered rude to not clap for someone. As long as the singers having a good time, you should cheer them on.To entice reluctant performers onstage, Lawless will sing duets with them. I may not be perfect on all the songs, but I can sing a huge variety of songs Im a pretty good singer, said Lawless. I do a lot of the new R&B stuff, because it gets people on the dance floor. Our slogan is, You are the entertainment, because without the singers, we dont have anything.Lawless currently hosts karaoke nights from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday, at The West Point Lounge, 11042 W. U.S. Hwy. 6, Westville, IN, and DJ nights from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturday, at the same venue. For more information, call (219) 785-1320.

Although much of Lawlesss focus falls on karaoke, he works DJ gigs when his schedule permits such as weddings,

which still rank among the biggest moneymakers for anybody in the business, he notes. No matter which side of the business hes working, however, Lawless keeps his crowd in mind.If youre going to be into DJ or karaoke work, you really have to be passionate about music, said Lawless. You have to stay current. Well play a set of karaoke, go through all the singers, and play a couple of dance songs. If you dont know what to play, if its not a song that they like, its a bomb everybody sits down, and nobody has a good time.A little persistence goes a long way, too. During his first 18 months of running Smooth Soundz, Lawless also juggled a full-time job with full-time DJ work. I put 100 percent of my money into the company, to put myself ahead of the market, said Lawless. You can have the best personality in the world, but if you dont have the song selection, or the equipment, it doesnt go very far.

However, professionalism also means nothing without passion. You can have the best song selection, but if youre not passionate about it, that also puts you down. If you dont have the passion, youre better off finding something else, said Lawless. For more about Smooth Soundz, visit facebook.com/smoothsoundz, or call (219) 262-0090.

    Synopsis:

Agents J and K are back...just in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when Ks life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to make things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

    Review:

Traditionally trilogies are in my opinion the most difficult to pull off, especially when there is such a huge gap between movies. I can honestly say I enjoyed MIB3 and quite possibly more than MIB2. You have a creepy crazed Alien hell-bent on revenge and the domination of earth. The only thing in his way are the Men in Black! With new characters, time travel, and an extra twist into the past of Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) this movie entails all the things you loved about the first two films and then some. On a side note I do believe 3-D movies are getting better, nowhere near the bar set by Avatar, but on a recent basis MIB3 was one of the better films Ive seen in 3-D.

Hot Dog Vendor has Hot TemperAlbuquerque, NM

A man now faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he rammed his food cart into some local food cart competition. He could face up to three years in prison and while police dont know for sure why the two men were fighting, its safe to say it was bad for business. Officials admit some confusion surrounds this case as its unclear whether the deadly weapon was the food cart or the actual hot dogs that were inside.

    Ears Eerily Eliminate CriminalsMainz, Germany

A burglar who has stolen nearly one million dollars worth of goods has finally been identified, after German police used his ear print to pinpoint the thief. He had apparently placed his ear to multiple doors and windows to see if the coast was clear before continuing with his crime spree and he left ear marks all over the city. After being caught, the criminal faced an appropriate punishment as his mother pulled him around by the offending ear door to door to apologize to all of his victims. Unfortunately, they werent hearing it and hes still going to jail.

Boy Pisses off MacBook OwnersUpper Allen Township, PA

An 11-year old student damaged nearly $36,000 worth of laptops recently after urinating on nearly 30 school-owned MacBooks. There were charges filed but even the police were impressed that a kid had enough of a stream to cause so much destruction. The laptops cannot be repaired as theyre now considered a biohazard and when asked why he did such a thing, the pre-teen simply shrugged and said, Im a PCget it? Pee see.

Bad-ass Bike Breaks Distance RecordsGraham Island, Canada

A Japanese man lost his home and three family members in the tsunami last year but has been reunited with his most beloved possession his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. An explorer was combing the beaches of British Columbia recently when he came across the wrecked bike and, after noticing the Japanese license plates, was able to locate the original owner. The owner cant believe his good luck and said that crazy things dont happen when pigs fly but rather when hogs swim.

Conundrum Creek poses Conundrum for CowsAspen, CO

A group of unlucky hikers recently found six dead cows in an old cabin 11,000 above sea level and the U.S. Forest Service has been trying to figure out how to dispose of the bodies ever since. The cows huddled in the cabin during the winter but were unable to get back out and their decomposing bodies now pose a

health concern as the snow melts into nearby creeks and springs. The latest idea involves using chainsaws in a way that would make Dexter proud and officials are just happy that theyve finally found the answer to the longstanding question, Wheres the Beef?

Dutch Prince Tosses in the ToiletRhenen, the Netherlands

The Crown Prince of the Netherlands made a splash recently while celebrating a public holiday that celebrates the Queens birthday by partaking in the popular local pastime of toilet bowl tossing. Despite the way it sounds, this has nothing to do with blowing chunks and instead the Prince tossed a bright orange toilet as far as he could while some onlookers cheered. Not everyone was on his side, though, as the majority found this to be proof that the royal family is completely full of shit.

Sandwich Chain is Stoner HeavenTempe, AZ

Blunts, dank and the munchies might create visions of greenery in the heads of some but the customers in a sandwich restaurant chain know these as a different sort of tasty treat. The shop, which has been selling marijuana-themed foods for years, has been expanding and now boasts 14 locations with more on the way. The food wont make you high but they wont care if thats the state in which you order. Its a unique idea and seems to be working well but hiring has proved to be a challenge, as most applicants have been showing up to interviews completely stoned, if they remember to show up at all.
