Why was it created The reason it was sculpted is that the statue had a political connation for the city state that had recently cast of the Medici family. David’s character traits are reminded as more important than his victory over goliath. What makes Michelangelo want to sculpt David?

David was commissioned in 1501 by cathedral community, so they gave him a marble from mountain Carrara. This piece of art work was intended to as a monument work, a testimony to the city’s republican pride. This is another reason that he had to sculpt the statute

What is the story behind the statue. David was said after his victory, triumphant over Goliath. Michelangelo pictured David before the battle. David is mentioned as tense, not much in a physical as inmental sense. The slingshot he carries over his shoulder is almost invisible, emphasizing that David’s victory was on of the cleverness, not sheer, force.

Where is the statue? (now & before)

It was originally erected 1509 in the public plaza of Florence, the Piazza della Signoria. 1873 the original moved to the Accademia delle Belle art, where it is better protect for prostery. The copy of the work is erected in the plaza in 1882.
